1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 One of my heroes as a kid. Lots of players came along after him and copped his techniques, and some did the fretboard gymnastics better than him, but nobody had his complete package of rhythm, melody, tone, swing...he had it all. He's irreplaceable. 6
treeduck Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 This is maybe the shittest news in maybe the shittest famous death year of all time. RIP Eddie. I wish I could say more. 5
pjbear05 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I have Best of VH Vol. 1 CD hiding somewhere, will need to dig it out. 1
Entre_Perpetuo Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I have Best of VH Vol. 1 CD hiding somewhere, will need to dig it out. That's a great best of, but then how could it not be. 2
Nova Carmina Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Oh, god, no . . . So sad for his friends and family. What a star. RIP 1
zepphead Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 This year is getting a bigger and bigger crock as it goes on. I know how devastating this will be to some of you massive VH fans here on the forum. The world of rock has just lost a superstar. 2
1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Imagine the jam session Eddie's having with Neil, John Entwistle and Keith Emerson right now. Chris Squire, John Bonham and Jon Lord are waiting their turns. Jimi looking on approvingly. 8

J2112YYZ Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 RIP No other guitarist could play like he did. His influence and impact over rock and metal might be greater than just about anyone else who ever played the instrument. 4
RUSHHEAD666 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Gonna have to spin the debut album tonight in his memory. We knew he was battling cancer yet still I am also devastated. More tears are falling today. I will spin the first six Van Halen albums tonight!!! First Neil and now Eddie. My two favorite musicians are gone. This year sucks!!! 73!!! How are you feeling today? I know we've been typing about Eddie a lot on here since I joined 14 years ago. "The Brown Sound" Legend is gone. But his guitar riffs and solos will live on forever. RIP EVH! 6
The Cat 3 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 ♥ ♥ ♥ Rest in Peace, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen ♥ ♥ ♥ 7
Rod in Toronto Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 May he rest in peace...I'm still in shock. As treeduck said to me in private, this is as bad as when Neil died. We knew he was battling cancer, but we never expect the outcome to be the worst. The rumour in the press was that they were discussing one last hurrah with Sammy, but that as contingent on Eddie getting better. 3
Fordgalaxy Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 The first concert I ever attended was Van Halen. Forever etched in my memory. Helluva show. 2
ST3V Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I mean we knew he wasnt doing well but... goddamn that was quick. Another Name to add to the legends weve lost this year. We miss you already, Eddie.
JARG Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 His influence on rock music was (and will be for quite some time) undeniable and huge. A true legend of our time. 1

Sebastian Bach said something similar about Neil and Eddie on Twitter here. 1

You may have been the first person I thought of in terms of this board. I will be joining you in your listening binge. I don't always listen to Van Halen, but when I do so do the neighbors! 4

Rick N. Backer Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 My wife just called me and said she was doing a mental health check. I'm so glad I got to see him when he was at his peak. Of course, everyone who ever saw him live saw him at his peak. 4
