  1. 90. “The Fountain Of Lamneth”, Track 5/5 (19:57), Caress Of Steel (1975) Caress Of Steel - Entry 3 out of 5 ...And here is the most debated Rush song of all. As we all know, this makes up Side B of Caress Of Steel, and closes the album. For me, this 20 minute epic opens structurally exciting with "In the Valley" - just an excellent, building intro into soaring guitars and vocals. Then we get "Didacts and Narpets", which is mostly a drum solo with Geddy Lee screaming single words - totally okay. My favorite piece is "No One At The Bridge", mainly because I love Lifeson's clean riffs. Then there is "Panacea" - which kind of falls this track down here for me - it works well in the grand scheme of the song's story, but the song itself is somewhat bleh. It ends great with "Bacchus Plateau" and the reminiscent "The Fountain". Great stepping stone for Rush. Below: Why is it titled "The Fountain of Lamenth"? Previously on my list... 91. “Secret Touch”, Track 8/13 (6:34) - Entry 9/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 90. “The Fountain Of Lamneth”, Track 5/5 (19:57) - Entry 3/5, Caress Of Steel (1975) How is this album doing? 5. “I Think I’m Going Bald”, Track 2/5 (3:41) - #146/173 4. “Lakeside Park”, Track 3/5 (4:07) - #120/173 3. “The Fountain Of Lamneth”, Track 5/5 (19:57) - #90/173

  3. 91. “Secret Touch”, Track 8/13 (6:34), Vapor Trails (2002) Vapor Trails - Entry 9 out of 13 Perhaps I am underrating Vapor Trails - this is yet another powerful song that wonderfully evokes Neil's pain prior to the album. "The way out Is the way in" and "You can never break the chain/There is never love without pain/A gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart" are all excellent lyrics, but I feel that this may be a little too repetitive for six and a half minutes, especially in comparison to shorter songs coming up from this album. Previously on my list... 101. “In The Mood”, Track 6/8 (3:36) - Entry 4/8, Rush (1974) 100. “We Hold On”, Track 13/13 (4:13) - Entry 10/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 99. “Cinderella Man”, Track 4/6 (4:20) - Entry 2/6, A Farewell To Kings (1977) 98. “Totem”, Track 6/11 (4:58) - Entry 9/11, Test For Echo (1996) 97. “Cut To The Chase”, Track 3/11 (4:46) - Entry 5/11, Counterparts (1993) 96. “Lock And Key”, Track 6/10 (5:09) - Entry 6/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) 95. “The Twilight Zone”, Track 3/6 (3:18) - Entry 3/6, 2112 (1976) 94. “Chemistry”, Track 3/8 (4:58) - Entry 1/8, Signals (1982) 93. “Ghost Of A Chance”, Track 8/10 (5:18) - Entry 8/10, Roll The Bones (1991) 92. “Vapor Trail”, Track 7/13 (4:57) - Entry 8/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 91. “Secret Touch”, Track 8/13 (6:34) - Entry 9/13, Vapor Trails (2002) How is this album doing? 13. “Peaceable Kingdom”, Track 4/13 (5:23) - #164/173 12. “Out Of The Cradle”, Track 13/13 (5:03) - #155/173 11. “The Stars Look Down”, Track 5/13 (4:28) - #138/173 10. “Ceiling Unlimited”, Track 2/13 (5:28) - #130/173 9. “Nocturne”, Track 11/13 (4:49) - #125/173 8. “How It Is”, Track 6/13 (4:04) - #116/173 7. “Ghost Rider”, Track 3/13 (5:41) - #113/173 6. “Vapor Trail”, Track 7/13 (4:57) - #92/173 5. “Secret Touch”, Track 8/13 (6:34) - #91/173
  4. 92. “Vapor Trail”, Track 7/13 (4:57), Vapor Trails (2002) Vapor Trails - Entry 8 out of 13 Whether this is the original mix or the remixed version - this is a downright terrific alt-rock jam. It has a great sense of atmosphere, and really transitions well into the chorus. This album begins to lift for me around here. “Vapor Trail”, Track 7/13 (4:57) - Entry 8/13, Vapor Trails (2002) How is this album doing? “Vapor Trail”, Track 7/13 (4:57) - #92/173
  5. Note: I posted this one last night... in the wrong thread! I will post #92 tonight, lol. 93. “Ghost Of A Chance”, Track 8/10 (5:18), Roll The Bones (1991) Roll The Bones - Entry 8 out of 10 On an album where they had an unfortunate misstep with rapping and tried a bunch of other questionable gimmicks, be needed a bar-rock love song. Ewwww, right? Nah, this song is great, and has always stood out to me as a highlight from the album. It has a nice riff and great vocals, and I especially love the chorus - it really fits in well with the conviction of the whole album. "I don't believe in destiny/Or the guiding hand of fate/I don't believe in forever/Or love as a mystical state". Underrated tune. 7. 94. “Chemistry”, Track 3/8 (4:58), Signals (1982) Signals - Entry 1 out of 8 Let me clear one thing out of the way first - Signals is a fantastic record, and all eight tracks on here are fantastic. However, "Chemistry" has always stood out to me as clearly the weakest link from Signals. I feel as if this one isn't as structurally significant or lyrically interesting in comparison to other tracks from the album. It has some great synth lines as a hook and to use with the chorus; Geddy really bounces on that bass and Alex shreds that solo. I will say that Alex really makes my least favorite tracks on this album glitter (foreshadow to what might be next to leave from this album...?). “Chemistry”, Track 3/8 (4:58) - Entry 1/8, Signals (1982) How is this album doing? 8. “Chemistry”, Track 3/8 (4:58) - #94/173
  8. There's a reason why I had to remind you...
  9. ...Just a reminder... We haven't seen anything from Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures... or Signals... or Grace Under Pressure :)
  10. 95. “The Twilight Zone”, Track 3/6 (3:18), 2112 (1976) 2112 - Entry 3 out of 6 Nothing much to say about this one, really. A groovy track where the boys pay homage to two of their favorite episodes from some show that nobody's ever heard of. Cool song. “The Twilight Zone”, Track 3/6 (3:18) - Entry 3/6, 2112 (1976) How is this album doing? 6. “Lessons”, Track 4/6 (3:51) - #117/173 5. “Tears”, Track 5/6 (3:29) - #104/173 4. “The Twilight Zone”, Track 3/6 (3:18) - #95/173
  11. 96. “Lock And Key”, Track 6/10 (5:09), Hold Your Fire (1987) Hold Your Fire - Entry 6 out of 10 Side B of Hold Your Fire opens up with an intense synth intro where Geddy sings "I don't want to face the killer instinct/Face it in you or me". Holy hell, the bass on this album is uncharted. The guitar solo on this track is strong, and stands well up against the synths. Excellent synth-heavy track! “Lock And Key”, Track 6/10 (5:09) - Entry 6/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) How is this album doing? 10. “Tai Shan”, Track 9/10 (4:17) - #165/173 9. “Second Nature”, Track 4/10 (4:36) - #134/173 8. “High Water”, Track 10/10 (5:33) - #112/173 7. “Turn The Page”, Track 8/10 (4:55) - #106/173 6. “Open Secrets”, Track 3/10 (5:38) - #102/173 5. “Lock And Key”, Track 6/10 (5:09) - #96/173
  12. The Color Of Right is probably the one song off of my list I feel that I have ranked too low and didn't give it enough credit - if you were to ask me where to rank it now I might rank it the 2nd best off of TFE, somewhere in the middle of the list.
  13. 97. “Cut To The Chase”, Track 3/11 (4:46) - Entry 5/11, Counterparts (1993) Counterparts - Entry 5 out of 11 A song like this one really showcases that Counterparts was a well-produced 90's album. Alex soars with clean, swinging riffs while Geddy plays with a rumbling bass and excellent vocals. The solo at 2:43 transitioning into a heavier part of the song at 3:09 is one of the album's highlights for sure. I'd like to rate this one higher, but there's definitely some more favorable tracks from this magnificent album. “Cut To The Chase”, Track 3/11 (4:46) - Entry 5/11, Counterparts (1993) How is this album doing? 11. “Double Agent”, Track 8/11 (4:52) - #143/173 10. “Between Sun & Moon”, Track 5/11 (4:37) - #139/173 9. “The Speed Of Love”, Track 7/11 (5:02) - #126/173 8. “Alien Shore”, Track 6/11 (5:45) - #114/173 7. “Cut To The Chase”, Track 3/11 (4:46) - #97/173
  14. 98. “Totem”, Track 6/11 (4:58), Test For Echo (1996) Test For Echo - Entry 9 out of 11 Easily one of the album's highlights for me. To me, this is most sonically interesting one to my ears off of Test For Echo - a jaunty tune that has plenty more layers of instruments in comparison to the rest of the album. Pantheism and secular humanism are certainly interesting topics for Rush to dive into, especially on an album like this one. Shame that after this song, Neil makes lame dog metaphors and writes a song about modems - lovely, timeless album, huh? Previously on my list... 101. “In The Mood”, Track 6/8 (3:36) - Entry 4/8, Rush (1974) 100. “We Hold On”, Track 13/13 (4:13) - Entry 10/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 99. “Cinderella Man”, Track 4/6 (4:20) - Entry 2/6, A Farewell To Kings (1977) 98. “Totem”, Track 6/11 (4:58) - Entry 9/11, Test For Echo (1996) How is this album doing? 11. “Half The World”, Track 3/11 (3:43) - #173/173 10. “Virtuality”, Track 8/11 (5:44) - #170/173 9. “Dog Years”, Track 7/11 (4:55) - #169/173 8. “The Color Of Right”, Track 4/11 (4:48) - #152/173 7. “Carve Away The Stone”, Track 11/11 (4:06) - #148/173 6. “Time And Motion”, Track 5/11 (5:01) - #136/173 5. “Test For Echo”, Track 1/11 (5:56) - #129/173 4. “Limbo”, Track 10/11 (5:29) - #123/173 3. “Totem”, Track 6/11 (4:58) - #98/173
  15. 99. “Cinderella Man”, Track 4/6 (4:20), A Farewell To Kings (1977) A Farewell To Kings - Entry 2 out of 6 Damn, this album is weird. There's an eleven minute song about milk and honeydew, and a ten minute song about flying into black holes. Now we have a four minute song paying tribute to the movie Mr. Deeds Goes To Town. "Cinderella Man" is certainly a progressive piece of rocking out, although the guitars are just a little bit scratchy for my taste. This does much better live, especially where Geddy yells "make it funky!" Previously on my list... 101. “In The Mood”, Track 6/8 (3:36) - Entry 4/8, Rush (1974) 100. “We Hold On”, Track 13/13 (4:13) - Entry 10/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 99. “Cinderella Man”, Track 4/6 (4:20) - Entry 2/6, A Farewell To Kings (1977) How is this album doing? 6. “Madrigal”, Track 5/6 (2:35) - #147/173 5. “Cinderella Man”, Track 4/6 (4:20) - #99/173
  16. 100. “We Hold On”, Track 13/13 (4:13), Snakes & Arrows (2007) Snakes & Arrows - Entry 10 out of 13 Wow, they realllly closed this album with a banger. Neil goes on a rampage with the toms, Alex has some of the most interesting guitar elements throughout the whole album, and Geddy's voice is perfectly mixed. Why is it only this low? - that is because of the embarrassing splice that can be heard at 1:18 in. Woops! Previously on my list... 101. “In The Mood”, Track 6/8 (3:36) - Entry 4/8, Rush (1974) 100. “We Hold On”, Track 13/13 (4:13) - Entry 10/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) How is this album holding up? 13. “Bravest Face”, Track 10/13 (5:12) - #171/173 12. “The Way The Wind Blows”, Track 7/13 (6:28) - #160/173 11. “Spindrift”, Track 5/13 (5:24) - #157/173 10. “Hope”, Track 8/13 (2:03) - #150/173 9. “The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)”, Track 4/13 (4:07) - #133/173 8. “Good News First”, Track 11/13 (4:51) - #121/173 7. “Workin’ Them Angels”, Track 3/13 (4:48) - #115/173 6. “Armor And Sword”, Track 2/13 (6:36) - #109/173 5. “The Main Monkey Business”, Track 6/13 (6:01) - #108/173 4. “We Hold On”, Track 13/13 (4:13) - #100/173 Lots of interesting takes are awaiting in the 90's, just awaiting to heat this thread! Oh - what's this? #99? Oh, boy! Looks like this one will heat the thread for sure!
  17. 101. “In The Mood”, Track 6/8 (3:36), Rush (1974) Rush - Entry 4 out of 8 Ah, yes - the good ol' tune about f***in'. Like all songs from the debut, it is very well produced - they don't put it to waste with this catchy and memorable riff. But let's not kid ourselves - Rush was already a nerdy band before Neil hopped on. "Hey baby, it's a quarter to eight/I feel I'm in the mood/Hey baby, the hour is late/I feel I've got to move". Neeeeeerrrrds! How is this album doing? 8. “Need Some Love”, Track 2/8 (2:16) - #153/173 7. “Here Again”, Track 4/8 (7:30) - #140/173 6. “Take A Friend”, Track 3/8 (4:27) - #118/173 5. “In The Mood”, Track 6/8 (3:36) - #101/173

Feedback is the first and only album completely eliminated. My list holds a bunch of surprises in the 90's! There will be a lot of controversial choices, including a few tracks that you might have completely forgotten that I have not eliminated yet. :)
  19. 102. “Open Secrets”, Track 3/10 (5:38), Hold Your Fire (1987) Hold Your Fire - Entry 5 out of 10 This one sounds like a leftover track from Power Windows to me - which is a good thing. At the same time, it also proves to me that this was a great transition album into Presto. This has of the best messages from Hold Your Fire, how we all deal with psychological damage and there's better ways to go about treating it - although the chorus, however, is... a way to spread the message. "Well, I guess we all have these feelings/We can't leave unreconciled/Some of them burned on our ceilings/Some of them learned as a child". Previously on my list... 111. “Where’s My Thing? (Part IV, “Gangster Of Boats” Trilogy)”, Track 5/10 (3:49) - Entry 7/10, Roll The Bones (1991) 110. “Summertime Blues”, Track 1/8 (3:43) - Entry 7/8, Feedback (2004) 109. “Armor And Sword”, Track 2/13 (6:36) - Entry 8/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 108. “The Main Monkey Business”, Track 6/13 (6:01) - Entry 9/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 107. “Wish Them Well”, Track 11/12 (5:25) - Entry 4/12, Clockwork Angels (2012) 106. “Turn The Page”, Track 8/10 (4:55) - Entry 4/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) 105. “Manhattan Project”, Track 3/8 (5:03) - Entry 1/8, Power Windows (1985) 104. “Tears”, Track 5/6 (3:29) - Entry 2/6, 2112 (1976) 103. “Heart Full Of Soul”, Track 2/8 (2:52) - Entry 8/8, Feedback (2004) 102. “Open Secrets”, Track 3/10 (5:38) - Entry 5/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) How is this album doing? 10. “Tai Shan”, Track 9/10 (4:17) - #165/173 9. “Second Nature”, Track 4/10 (4:36) - #134/173 8. “High Water”, Track 10/10 (5:33) - #112/173 7. “Turn The Page”, Track 8/10 (4:55) - #106/173 6. “Open Secrets”, Track 3/10 (5:38) - #102/173
  20. 103. “Heart Full Of Soul”, Track 2/8 (2:52), Feedback (2004) Feedback - Entry 8 out of 8 Now THIS is a great cover. The Vapor Trails mixing makes this song very transformative - and holy hell, this might be some of Geddy's best vocals of the whole era. Yes, while there are really 102 greater Rush songs than the highest number I have rated on Feedback, this one is definitely a track to go back to time after time. I just wish I could've had better feelings towards Feedback - and I sure don't see too many Rush fans splitting hairs with people bashing on this extended play. This album is just so weird in their discography, isn't it? It's the only time they ever do covers, and it has a generic selection. I don't think most people will disagree with me when I say this (as I have already seen here) - when I want to listen to Rush, I want to listen to Rush - not Rush being a tribute band for 28 minutes. Previously on my list... 111. “Where’s My Thing? (Part IV, “Gangster Of Boats” Trilogy)”, Track 5/10 (3:49) - Entry 7/10, Roll The Bones (1991) 110. “Summertime Blues”, Track 1/8 (3:43) - Entry 7/8, Feedback (2004) 109. “Armor And Sword”, Track 2/13 (6:36) - Entry 8/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 108. “The Main Monkey Business”, Track 6/13 (6:01) - Entry 9/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 107. “Wish Them Well”, Track 11/12 (5:25) - Entry 4/12, Clockwork Angels (2012) 106. “Turn The Page”, Track 8/10 (4:55) - Entry 4/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) 105. “Manhattan Project”, Track 3/8 (5:03) - Entry 1/8, Power Windows (1985) 104. “Tears”, Track 5/6 (3:29) - Entry 2/6, 2112 (1976) 103. “Heart Full Of Soul”, Track 2/8 (2:52) - Entry 8/8, Feedback (2004) How is this album doing? 8. “Seven And Seven Is”, Track 6/8 (2:53) - #168/173 7. “For What It’s Worth”, Track 3/8 (3:30) - #161/173 6. “Shapes Of Things”, Track 7/8 (3:16) - #156/173 5. “Mr. Soul”, Track 5/8 (3:51) - #151/173 4. “Crossroads”, Track 8/8 (3:27) - #145/173 3. “The Seeker”, Track 4/8 (3:27) - #131/173 2. “Summertime Blues”, Track 1/8 (3:43) - #110/173 1. “Heart Full Of Soul”, Track 2/8 (2:52) - #103/173 Hey, it looks like we are done with Feedback! Which album do you predict will go out next?
  21. 104. “Tears”, Track 5/6 (3:29), 2112 (1976) 2112 - Entry 2 out of 6 If we are talking about Rush ballads, this is the first good one in their discography. While it's lyrically more laid-back and has more emotion than "Rivendell", the band still has some chops to build up on writing ballads. There are some great arrangements on here, and it has quite some personality to it - unlike "Rivendell". :) Previously on my list... 111. “Where’s My Thing?
