Definitely a guitarist-heavy year. Satch, Holdsworth, Metheny, Morse, Beck, etc. Holdsworth's Secrets is great, Morse's playing on Wires is awesome. As far as bands, King's X got serious consideration. In the end, Beck's Guitar Shop is such an underrated gem that I had to give it my vote.

Gretchen Goes to Nebraska! Probably my favorite KIng's X album. I considered Soundgarden just for "Gun." This year seems a bit down from some of the others, but damn it's a reminder that every year produces so much re-listenable music.

High Tension Wires has Ghostwind, Highland Wedding and Tumeni Notes... Doolittle is still a great listen - Monkeys Gone To Heaven and Debaser are so good. But I went with Satch, because I have great teenage memories of listening to Flying In A Blue Dream.

Ow, this one the tougest yet, SRV, Satch, AWBH, Corea. But in the end, the light shines through.

El Becko and Guitar Shop ftw.

1979, hard to pick just one

1989, hard to pick one

Not a surprise this is the year Presto was released, it fits right in with the rest of the dreck.

Gretchen Goes To Nebraska! King's X

It was a bit of a dearth year musically (and a shit year personally!) ABWH was in rotation (better in concert!), Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, SRV, Queen were all good releases. I figured out that I didn't like the new-Marillion without Fish (a trend that holds to this day!)

One release that is missed in the poll that was very high in my rotation - Suck on This by Primus! I had heard the opening track very early - with the YYZ intro and called my college radio station to inquire. They had a cassette of this band from SF and gave me an address. I sent out a quick note and was rewarded several weeks later with a pre-release non-official packaging homemade cassette version of Suck on This from the band's management.
