re some of the above comments. The USA is way ahead of other countries on rates of infection and deaths - at least twice the rate of deaths per capita as Canada. So you can say immune compromised all you want as the reason for most of the deaths, but other countries are showing that it didn't have to be that bad.

The US has a lot of cases, for sure. If the bottom line is death rates per capita, reports are that the US is well behind the UK, France, and Spain, as well as Mexico, Peru, Iran.

But there are lots of problems with nation-to-nation comparisons in general, as Johns Hopkins points out.

Differences in mortality numbers can be caused by:

  • Differences in the number of people tested: With more testing, more people with milder cases are identified. This lowers the case-fatality ratio.
  • Demographics: For example, mortality tends to be higher in older populations.
  • Characteristics of the healthcare system: For example, mortality may rise as hospitals become overwhelmed and have fewer resources.
  • Other factors, many of which remain unknown.

So fricken tired of the whole thing. This all could have been different. And I know, first world problems, but it's really not fun trying to figure out how to have socially distanced Thanksgiving outside on the porch. 2 of my kids work in the health care field and can't take any chances.

Yes the USA is not the worst

It's like a slow motion train catastrophe.

And completely embarrassing.

Especially the "f your feelings" crowd of James Woods, Ben Shapiro, Eric Carmen et al on social media since news broke. Right on cue as usual with their victim complex malarkey. They dish it out but can't take it.

2020 Bingo is holding many beers.

https://www.palmerre...-trouble/32729/

KFC and McD's are to him what milk was to Ron Burgandy. You wonder why I eat organic and avoid corporate fast food on my own freewill. Morgan Spurlock is saying, "I told you so about super sizing."

Edit update: Now, Kellyanne Conway has tested positive or "alternative negative." Hope the way more sane daughter and Lincoln Project father are safe.

It's one thing to take a measured approach as president to shutting down the economy, and quite another thing as a 70+yo obese man to thumb your nose at the Grim Reaper himself.

I'd be lying if I didn't admit that part of me suspects this is all staged so that Pence can replace Trump as the nominee.

Nooooooooooo . . . . . .his policies in Indiana led to a large HIV outbreak in Southern Indiana while he was governor. :(

He won't win without him anyways. He's Andrew Ridgely without George Michael. It's a comparison to popularity and not personality since Wham were much better people than Trump and Pence will ever be. Pence is quiet where Trump advertises himself a lot.

Which would make Karen Pence one of Bananarama?

The federal system puts the police powers in the hands of governors. I agree that having a more experienced politician in the White House would have resulted in better collective messaging, but in the end it is the governors who made, and continue to make, decisions for their states. We also have obstacles that other nations aren't facing, including a strong tradition of personal freedom, vast disparities in lifestyle due to geography, and a current political climate that is hugely divisive.

We had a pandemic response team ready to deal with situations like this but in April 2018 it was dismantled. Cuts to the CDC and other public health agencies weakened their ability to respond. So a group of officials from the Federal Government could have coordinated a response for the country. The President declined to invoke the Defense Production Act to get vital PPE and tests to medical personnel. If this had been addressed in April rather than August, we wouldn't have seen states fighting it out to get their own supplies and being criticized for it. The politics of pitting blue versus red states for help was completely unnecessary and divisive. FEMA was used against states to try to confiscate PPE and redistribute it. There are many more examples but at a time when we needed leadership we got posturing and buffoonery. As I said, it didn't have to be this way and many people who died could still be here if we had formulated a response and acted on it when we first learned of the virus in February.

I don't disagree with that, but would spread the blame around more than you seem to. Blue vs. Red peaked with an ill-advised and, as it turns out, ill-timed impeachment process. And there us plenty on record from Dem leadership playing down the risks of Coronavirus throughout February. Expecting leadership or collaboration from Trump seems unrealistic to me considering his personality and his defensive political position at the time, and Dems fought him every step of the way early on (e.g. criticism of travel restrictions).

As I said, plenty of blame to go around as a result of three years of putting politics over the country's best interest.

And I'd be lying if I said a part of me suspects this is staged to give him the needed excuse to lose and still save face.

"Saving face" would mean that he's a person who can feel shame. That doesn't apply here.

For the first time in his life, he's done something positive. ;)

Leadership by non-example. He did everything you shouldn't do if you're trying to avoid the virus.

Well, after staring at the eclipse without protection and having sex with a porn star without protection it's not too surprising.

Good grief.

I'm certain that this is the curse from RBG. If you walk by her grave, you can hear a faint cackle.

This must have really set them back on their heals...I haven't heard any conspiracy, blaming or lies in the last couple of days.

But the calls for 'delay the election' will start in 3,2,1....

Seriously, would responsible parents advise their children to "be like the President" in any way?

Is there even one aspect of his life and career that you would want your kids to emulate? I don't think that there is.
