  6. Maybe you and snowdogged should get a room. Maybe you should learn to listen to some constructive criticism. I mean... This is a public forum. More like destructive Nazism. This is a public forum, and it is free, but there is a lot of freedom and leeway with posting and making threads. I don't abuse my ability to make threads here, and this thread is certainly not an abuse of thread making privileges. Yes, I could have put this picture in the Caption a Random Images thread, but didn't feel like going through the rules of that thread to great thepprivilege to post in it. And I could have put it in the Pets thread, but I wanted more from it than to just post a picture of my dogs. So I made this thread. Big f***ing deal. If you don't like the threads I start, or if you just don't understand why I start them, then stay out of them. It is rather small and petty of you to insist on voicing your disapproval over something this insignificant. This thread was a flagrant insult to GoaR and all the effort he puts into the Caption Game. While I have never met GoaR in person, I consider him a good friend in the forum. He has class and never does anything to belittle others or start any shit of any kind. He is a very humble guy that goes out of his way for many of us here at TRF. You surely could learn alot by observing the way GoaR conducts himself in this forum. As you see, you mess with GoaR and many people take up the fight. How many people in this forum will do the same for you when it is you always starting the trouble?

  7. Incidentally, there seems to be camps on this...as if some people feel the need to gloat that it's done or isn't. While I prefer the music of PT to his recent outings, I respect what he does and I admire the musicianship...even where I don't always connect with the songs. I certainly bear no grudges towards PT being put on a shelf, even as a huge fan. Likewise if in 5 years he said he was returning to focus on PT for the foreseeable future, I'd hardly get on with the "stick a fork in his jazz crap" snarky comments. It's gotten to the point where it seems like you have to choose one or the other and I don't see the need for that kind of thing myself. I'm happy he's out there creating music and if some of that means more to me than other projects, so be it.

  9. Genesis had two great albums after Gabriel left. Then, yuk... pop band, especially in the 80s and 90s. But, they DID make TONS money so I guess that was a motivator. I vote for Aerosmith... biggest cliff. From the first 2 albums to the gargage kiddie pop that they play now, disgusting.

  12. I havent listened to a lot of thrash, so i can just name the ones i have activelly looked for, which are normally the highest rated ones (i wont listen to garbage voluntarily). So at risk of sound a little obvious: 5. Among the Living - Anthrax 4. Rust in Peace - Megadeth 3. The American Way - Sacred Reich 2. Reign in Blood - Slayer 1. ...And Justice for All - Metallica Yes, no Master of Puppets. I think thats a great album, but ...And Justice for All is far superior musically (even with no bass).

  22. I've done that with my laser pointer, and my kitty looks for it! :D Could you please give Scooter a chin-rub, and ear-rub and a stroke for me? Thanks! And *meow* comes from my kitty Boop to Scooter! :) Your cat's name is Boop? What a fantastic name for a cat! Bosco got wise to the laser pointer a few years ago. But for many years, she'd come running and start looking around the moment she heard the pointer's keyring jingle. I miss those days. Now she just looks at like "oh, that old thing... http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sleep027.gif " A nice chin to the ear rub for Boop and Scooter from me, please. Bosco says meow. :)

  23. Ged will always be identified by his impossibly high vocal style of the seventees, but in retrospect - he really only sang like that for a short period of time in his youth. His wise decison to change up his style with Permanent Waves is the reason he sounds so good today. His voice would be entirley shot had he continued shredding like that and I doubt they would have been able to carry on for as long as they have. I think he has proven to be a remarkably deft singer over the years. He can sing an emotional, melodic vocal like The Garden and elicit just as many goosebumps from me as the old days.

  25. Good post... I agree with all of it, especially, the comment about Robert Plante. Yes, he is (probably) the best rock vocalist ever, or let's say, he "was" the best rock vocaslist ever. Same thing live - he could never hit those high notes. In the studio he obviously was able to because back in the early 70s they didn't have the technology or trickery that is available in today's synthetic studio environment. "The Song Remains the Same" (I think that's title of LZs concert movie from the early 70s recorded at MSG in New York) is painful to watch if you ask me. The opening song is "Rock 'n Roll" and Robert sounds awful, basically, just talking his way through it. Same thing with "Black Dog." Awful. Geddy is in my opinion one of the bravest vocalists in rock. Back when he was 23, 24, 25... he wrote (along with his bandsmates) some music that was VERY difficult to play live, let alone just sing the goddam stuff! Hemispheres, for example, wouldn't be quite so tough to play live if there was a fourth member who was the vocalist, but to sing AND play bass AND play keyboards AND play Taurus pedals (bass pedals, foot operated) AND play double-neck guitar (six string rhythm guitar and bass) all during the same song was and still is EFFING INSANE. No-one else has ever done it... So, back to the original question,,, I guess if either Alex or Tony Geranios, (Ged's keyboard tech) would volunteer to squeeze Geddy's onions while he tries to hit the REALLY high notes, we'll have to appreciate "our band" the way he (and they) play the songs live in today's live venue. :geddy:

  26. Geddy can still sing, maybe not like he used to in the seventies, but so what, Rush is still a working touring band 38 years after their inception. Geddy still has the energy and presence of a teenager, and it is an amazing quality. They work the songs for Geddy voice now and they still sound amazing. Vocal chords change over time but the energy of Rush has not.

  28. Justin Hayward is not an apt comparison. Ged regularly sang an octave and a half higher, and with amazing projection and strength. Never got to see Dickenson live so I wont comment. But he never sang as high as Ged. I saw RJD in I think 2006 and he skipped a couple of his most popular songs. They were the most difficult ones. I have to assume he just couldn't do it live anymore. He sounded great though. Again, VERY strong voice, but never approached the range of Ged. Take Robert Plant; the best rock vocalist ever IMO. He never could repoduce live what he did in the studio. Ged could back in the day. Did you hear the LZ reunion? He didn't even try to do the high-strong stuff. Keep in mind that live albums are recorded under optimum conditions.

  32. Thanks, GM! And love his 'bass face'! I wonder if it's a reaction, or if he even realizes he's doing it? And he's got a pretty impressive torso - that's a nice pair of pecs he's packing! :)

  33. Thanks a million, GM! Most unfortunate for me that my computer seems to be ailing today as it won't load some of your pictures. The only ones that will load are the eyes, flying hair, sleeveless and smirk pictures. Gotta love that smirk though. I'd love to know what is going through his mind when he does smirk like that. And I have to say, yet again, he has the kindest eyes I have seen on anyone in a very long time. :)
