  1. Hey everyone! Remember me? I was away for some time, but now im back for one specific reason: Patterns. You see, aside from prog rock and heavy metal i also like a little of electronic and dance music. Shocking, isnt it? Particularly Daft Punk, even though their last album wasnt my cup of tee. But just recently i found a little band that fills that niche quite nicely, and turns out they are costarican, and im costarican, thats crazy!!! I dont like most of what gets kinda famous here, because is usually some cumbia, or reggeaton, or generic soft rock bullshit, but this guys are genuinely good. Anyway, they posted their debut album in YouTube, give them a look and let me know what you think. Here is a sample:
  2. well, you guys definitly have something there...
  3. What, that expression doesnt exist or something? No. I find the expression unfortunate regardless of whether it's true or not. The notion of them being a virtual band is a nonsense. A marketing gambit, at best. Yes,the videos are animated, but the 2 times I saw them, flesh & blood & expensive tshirts. Like everyone else. Well, as far as i know, Damon Albarn had his reasons to create them, and of course he makes money out of it. I guess he is not much different from a writter or a movie producer or director in that regard. Anyway, call it what you want, i just like the whole mystic around them. As for the elitist thing, yes i know i have some frown upon positions in regards of music, but at least im honest about it. Aren't we all honest about our musical likes and dislikes? Maybe it's a question of delivery. I think you are giving too much thought to this.

  5. What, that expression doesnt exist or something?
  6. Believe it or not im quite a fan of Gorillaz. Not that much because of their music, but because of the concept of a virtual band itself and all the story and imaginery behind it. Yes, its weird even for me, being the musical elitist that i am, that i like a band not for its technical prowess, but because everything else around it. The characters, the animations, the story constructed around the whole idea of the band is pretty damn cool. Maybe is just because im a fan of good animation and storytelling in general, but anyway, their music is not half bad either. So, any love for them around here?
  7. I dont believe in the concept of listening to individual songs. For me is the whole album or nothing, you know, the gesamtkuntswerk and all that. So i guess i cant give you any recomendation, but whenever you want ideas for albums, i will be able to help you.
  8. If its true, it must suck to be Britney Spears right now.
  9. That... doesn't sound very believable. I mean, i hate Britney Spears music as much as everyone else, but that wouldn't stop me from raiding a cargo ship if i really wanted too. Probably a hoax.
  10. Well, this is my favorite song from The Octopus. Give it a try.
  11. After Amplifier released their album The Octopus, a couple of years ago, i wondered how they could follow it up. The Octopus was just too ambitious and far reaching, and honestly their best, cosidering the 2 others in their catalog. So, what could they release next that would make justice to their crowning achievement? And so comes Echo Street, released earlier this year, but only until recently i had the chance to listen to, and im happy to say that is every bit as good as The Octopus, only more concise and focused, that with being an hour shorter and all. Seriously, the main problem with The Octopus is that is simply too damn long, ive manage to get through it in its entirety just a handful of times. Other than that is excellent, one of the bests of 2011 in my opinion. But yeah, Echo Street pack the same amount of talent and emotion in a more compact presentation, which is really nice. The songs and general feel of the album are more calm and moody, kinda reminds me of Pink Floyd circa Animals (kinda), but with an obvious harder edge. Anyway Echo Street is a worthy follow up of The Octopus, i really recomend it, try to listen to it at least once, if you havent.
  12. i havent seen many threads about them here, so, anyway. Any love for them around, here? For me, they are the definitive electronic music band. i dont dislike any of their albums. My personal favorites got to be Force Majeure and Ricochet, but Encore is not far behind. Anyone else likes them?
  13. In my job is not allowed put on music in high volume... personal space and all that shit. So i dont have problems myself with any kind of bad music, but when i work after hours and there is just 2 or 3 people left in the office, i like to annoy them with some Magma or Gong or something really weird like that. Keep in mind this is a very latin country, so something like that really screw with their heads.
  14. Absolutely. They sound like a proper band instead of a vaudeville act now that cock has gone. Hey, show some respect for the guy. Ok sorry. They sound like a proper band instead of a vaudeville act now that Mr Cock has gone. No, seriously, the guy was in the band for more than 20 years and together they made some great, great music, and at least for that he has all my respect. He achieved more than you ever will in your life, and you should think about that before simply calling him a "cock". He's achieved more than I will ever do in my life? Are you actually serious? Stupid fanboy. Come on dude, why the cheap insults? Im a fanboy just because i respect him as a drummer? And why do you think im kidding? Are you leading the most important prog metal band in the world in the last couple of decades? No? Then i guess he actually has achieved more than you.
