A flyover of pelicans in perfect formation

Sounds awesome! That is something I have never witnessed.

Funny thing, only a few minutes earlier I had been wondering where all the birds were.

A wonderful day of leisure in Manhattan. Which is just what my wife needed.

I was born and raised in NYC, my wife not so much. We live just across the river on the Bon Jovi side. She hears all the terrible crime news on the radio every morning. You'd think it's all Snake Plissken struggling to stay alive over there. I can try to explain but it's a nice afternoon that shows her things aren't all that bad. We ate, drank, did culture and shopped. The weather was perfect. We didn't see a single homeless encampment until driving passed Grant's Tomb on the way home.

Now she's up for live music in the village on the 29th. Still not willing to ride the subway, my work is not completely done.

Denise.

NJ, the best state to live in in America.

https://wallethub.co...o-live-in/62617

Fact.

:rfl:

Even the guys on 1010 WINS in the morning couldn't help read that story with snark in their voices. With NY coming in #3 some serious questions of the methodology come to mind.

The ability if life's serendipity to turn a lousy situation into something beautiful.

It's Father's Day weekend and my son is swimming in a meet in Reno. What could be better for a father than to watch his son compete in something he loves and has committed countless hours to? Of course, there are no spectators allowed, vaccinated or not, because we know that COVID spreads to most outdoors in dry, 90 degree weather.

So...I dropped him off, wished him good luck and went to hit golf balls at the Royal and Ancient Washoe GC, Reno's classic mini course. As I hit balls an older man set up next to me, and we struck up a conversation. We chatted about golf, and then he told me about a trip he was getting ready for. Wendell is flying to Dallas next week to meet up with a group of guys that he pledged fraternity with. They will play golf in Dallas, then drive to Arkansas to surprise a friend of theirs on his birthday. The friend just suffered a major stroke, so the visit will have special meaning. I congratulated him on putting the event together, and said that those are the moments we live for. He told me he'd steal that comment and use it as the theme for the trip.

A final twist...Wendell is African American, and that I met him on the first official Juneteenth struck me. I wished him a Happy Juneteenth, and he wished me an emphatic Happy Fathers Day. Life is beautiful.

First time in Boulder, Colorado. Hiking at 9,400 feet was great.

I got a little short of breath here and there, but overall, this old man did very well. :sundog:

I've not been in a gym since about 1978, and that was a relic of the 50's with wooden benches, wooden bars, ropes, green canvas mats, wooden horse, vaulting box, medicine balls etc.

Our new kitty that we got in April is getting less flighty and coming to sit by me and let me rub her head and tummy. :sigh:  It's kinda a funny coincidence that her name is Gracie. :D We named our last cat Maddy (short for Madrigal). My cat club friend is a big Rush fan and she has named her cats for albums and songs for many years. So this is our Gracie under pressure girl, how appropriate :ebert: Edited by Rhyta

I just go to the one in our local leisure centre. I get cheap rates cos I'm over 60.

I don't do anything drastic, just some time on the treadmill to work off all the effects of the previous weekend's beers and currys!!

It’s always nice to hear a deep cut from a band you like blaring out someone’s car outside. Usually I always hear people playing the hits even not on radio. Today, it was Casa Dega by Tom Petty which is only on the box set as a b side. Not even a regular studio album.

A gorgeus, male common pheasant strolled slowly right behind our kitchen window it his red cap as I was cooking. I've seen common pheasants up here in the north in my home village only once, a few days ago, but never this close.

Went rafting on the American River today. Eight hours on the water, and I got to practice my Spanish with our guide, who was from Argentina.

You got lucky, most of them only know how to speak Argentinian.

We had three or four of them at the last place we lived. They are beautiful.

I love wildlife and birds.

Don't cry for them.

One good thing from my sudden lack of appetite for eating the past couple of weeks is not only weight loss but going from size 38 to the usual 36 yesterday. Been drinking liquid for my work days on breakfast with muscle milk drinks instead of the usual cereal.

My appetite is improved as well anyways. Celebrated that by going to The Habit Burger Grill after my haircut.

Reading that my parents would "rescue" my first cousin when he was a kid because his dad (my mom's brother) had a lot of issues with PTSD and substance abuse and wasn't the best dad. Now he's no longer blaming his bad childhood on his own problems and living a better life.

I was going through a box of old papers from when I went to University and found some poems I had written, made me smile. Had forgotten that I had done that, was even more enjoyable to read praise from my classmates. It brought back memories of how hard I worked and how good it felt to do well after a long gap between high school and these classes. I got my degree in 1992 and it was proof I wasn't just a housewife playing at being a student (ex's comments). I even sent him a graduation announcement to show him I did it after all. Really did make my day to revisit that time in my life. Edited by Rhyta
