You know Grammys aren't won based on talent alone and how good something is, right? It's more about who pays the most for their artist and sucks up to the right people. As for Taylor Swift, since Speak Now "converted" EP, I decided to give the album a listen and found it an enjoyable listen. I don't think she will become a favorite of mine and make my regular rotation but if her other stuff is like this then I completely get why everyone is so nuts about her. Now back to my regularly scheduled metal.2 points

Recently we have lost the first 2 men to have won the World Cup as a player (Zagallo in 1958 & 1962, Franz in 1974) & as a manager (Mario in 1970, Franz in 1990). Mario was a very good player (from what I have read) but in some ways he was even better as a manager - getting all the pieces to work together with the magnificent 1970 Brazil side. Franz was a magnificent defender (or so I have read) and played for a large part of the crazy 1970 semi-final against Italy (best world cup match ever? - based on what I have seen on youtube I would say yes - I welcome comments from those more knowledgable then I am about the sport though) with his arm in a sling. Yes, Germany could not sub him out - but he was still playing hard. Impressive. But, after wining it all in 1974 he retired and eventually came back to manage Germany to glory in 1990. RIP giants of the beautiful game.2 points

i'm a huge fan as you know. and i'm glad you're finally seeing it. Honestly always thought it odd she never appealed to you from the off, lol oh well you're here now. i will admit not everything she does is a lovefest from me. in fact some of her choices annoy me. BUT. i've learned to respect all aspects of her career. My top 5 albums for your reference if you want 1. Red 2. Folklore 3. Speak now (you know this bad boy, lol0 4. Lover 5. 1989 taylor's Version (yes i'm recommended you here re-record of this. only rerecord i endorse actually. but it improves on the original in every way) Actually her re-records are a high source of frustration for me but i'll go in depth if you ever get to them, lol Mick2 points

That’s why I started here! I remembered you sending me the live version of Haunted and actually liking it. But now I love it. I needed this whole album badly right now.1 point

Money talks, BS walks as they say! I am not familiar with a lot of Swift's work except the early stuff, but she works incredibly hard. Somehow she has figured out how to sell tons of music and shows in a times when most music sales are slow, it's admirable. Ted's gonna Ted, but it's kind of old these days. Although when I worked at a library his "Kill It and Grill It" cookbook was very popular1 point

As they used to say on CKLW-AM, The Big 8, ..."and the hits just keep on comin'." Titans can Mike Vrabel.1 point

Toronto's next games are a three game home stand, with a New York road game between the first, and second home games, a three game Western Canadian road trip, and in a U.S. city, too. Tonight, Toronto plays a back-to-back, home-and-home against San Jose Sharks, which Toronto, won 7-1, Thurs. in New York, against New York Islanders, which Toronto, lost 4-3 in overtime, Sat., against Colorado Avalanche, which Toronto, lost 5-3, and Sun., against Detroit Red Wings, which Toronto, lost 4-2. The 2023-24 N.H.L. season is half in it, and next Tues., Toronto, is in Edmonton, against Edmonton Oilers, which Toronto, lost 4-2, next Thurs., in Calgary, against Calgary Flames, which Toronto, won 4-3, next Sat., in Vancouver, against Vancouver Canucks, which Toronto, lost 6-4, and next Sun., in Seattle, against Seattle Kraken, which Toronto, won 3-1. At home, they are 10-9-2. On the road, they are 13-5-6. Auston Matthews, scored eight goals to give him thirty-eight in forty-five games.1 point

I remember loving Dostoevsky (or his translators) in school, but it's been a while. As for Stoppard, I only know the one work and I really hated it this time. Perhaps I don't have patience for existential or nihilist works any more, or perhaps the humor of the absurdism is more frustrating than funny to me now, but the best thing I can say about that work was that it was short.1 point

I like a fair amount of Ted's music but he should stick to just doing that instead of embarrassing himself. Even in Texas a chili cook-off won't be that well attended.1 point

I heard this news this evening. I've always liked Magnum and have been fortunate enough to see them several times over the years. When they announced recently that they had cancelled the upcoming UK tour due to an illness Tony had, I hadn't realised just how bad it was. Regarding the discussions above re the possibility of Magnum continuing, I would say no chance whatsoever. But at least we will have a brand new album to listen to and for me personally, many years of great memories, from a great band. RIP Tony.1 point

Ace is/was cited by many as their premier guitar hero. Dimebag Darrell Paul Gilbert Marty Friedman are just three big hitters I can name off the top of my head.1 point

I have always said this was the one album I thought best for you to start with. She's my generation, you can really hear the emo influences especially on her first four albums. None more so than this. She wrote and recorded this album aged around 18/19. Again, sole songwriter. She wanted to shut her critics up who said her songwriting abilities were exaggerated and dependent on others help.1 point

I don't think either QB did well for themselves in this game. Penix looks like he needs a perfectly clean pocket to excel. Michigan had him rattled most of the game. JJ has the talent, but never really blew anyone away this season. Reminds me of a Zack Wilson 2.0.1 point

Actually, The Stones' Exile on Main Street, Some Girls and Tattoo You Deluxe Editions all had a number of great songs that didn't make it to those albums.1 point

Guthrie has a more metal tone, and yet a more jazz tone on the jazz bits. It's a lot cleaner than the last couple of albums.1 point

I haven't been here for a while but I felt I had to pay my respects to 'Der Kaiser'. One of the greatest players of my generation (or any other for that matter!) RIP Franz.1 point

As exclusive as these services are. But it's my understanding that as participating teams the KC and Miami viewing areas will see the game on the local NBC affiliate. WTVJ, the local yokel in MyJamitMe says they will be showing it. We'll see. In other news, Ron Rivera gets the blindfold, cigarette, and firing squad in DC.1 point

Congratulations Michigan. Otoh, I have this itch that indicates Michael Penix might make something of himself in the NFL.1 point
