  1. I'm 100% ok with people enjoying the album, and I keep trying and listening, but for me, it's just not there. And I won't try to convince anyone about my opinion, but I believe the enjoyment or not of this album has to do with how long you've been a fan of the band. I got into them when Powerslave came out, and I've seen them evolve, take risks, fail and recover. Now, to my ears, they seem to be on safe mode, not willing to take chances, and drawing too much from the past. A lot of the songs here would require some editing and tweaking, but they are fixed on the idea that everyone needs to be respected in the band, and they're afraid of stepping on each other's toes. Making a five star album takes effort, disappointment, arguing, the ability to take criticism and to sometimes relinquish your ideas in favor of the song. Maiden does not seem willing to do that, and it sounds to me like everyone who presents an idea gets her way. Kevin Shirley is not there to criticize, as opposed to the role he played in Counterparts or in Dream Theater's Falling Into Infinity for example. He's there to press record and capture whatever it is those six guys want him to. He's been a "producer" of this band for twenty years - how did he not pick up that these passages are exactly the same? 03min08s: 02min56s: 05min21s: With that said, the band's PR sent me a physical copy of the album, and if/when there's a chance to interview one of them, I would gladly take that opportunity. I won't be able to express my opinion the way I'm doing here though...let's see if they have a slot for me.

  3. I like it. Would it be the first Maiden album I grab if I haven’t listened to them in a while? Probably not. But I feel like I like the last 2 more than most of the post 7th Son stuff. And for the record, when I got into them Killers was their new album.

  6. Right, haven't been round here much which is inexcusable really. Lets leave aside the utter shit sandwich ofyour situation right now (and believe me, I'm gutted for you) As I see it, you have two needs right now, and that's pain relief , and somethig to stop you puking. Where is the pain, and how bad is it?...what medication are you getting?....if oral, maybe it's time to consider injections. Same with anti-emetics, maybe what you are getting is just not cutting the mustard, especially if you are getting metronidazole (flagyl) Your immune response will not be great atm, which means that oral meds may not be so effective. You may well be offered steroids at some point...I would consider them, as if nothing else they will improve your feeling of well-being....lets be blunt, we're not really too concerned about long term effects here, are we? Hop this gives you food for thought, you know me, I'd rather try and offer something practical if I can rather than just sympathy (though you certainly have that too) Try and stat strong, and grab any chance to make this time easier....

  11. I've wondered if liking this album or not is a generational thing too. The younger fans seem to really dig it, which is fair enough, but us older ones not so much. I’m an old fan. I like it. But it’s not the debut or Powerslave. I think it depends on how much you like To Tame a Land or Rime. I think as time has gone on, those songs have become the band’s norm, not just a one-off per album.

  12. The tramadol helps the pain. I have morphine if I need it, but I don't need it if tramadol does the trick for now. My pain is centralized all around the same area and moves from one side to another, but it is primarily in the lower right side, where the tumor was/is. I need something stronger to help me sleep. Sleep is essential for me. They gave me the lowest dose possible for Ativan, but I'm taking 3 to go to sleep now, and 3 aren't cutting it. I am calling Hospice this morning. Hospice is well aware that I chose this route so I could be comfortable, pain-free, so as to enjoy as much as I can whatever time I have left. So I am sure they will give me whatever I need to achieve that. It is very sad though that this is going a lot faster than I thought. The hospice inter-faith chaplain is coming over today, and I have much to speak to her about. It's hard for me to look at my beautiful sunflower plants right outside my window and realize that I won't be here next summer to see them. It's hard to stay strong when I'm emotionally falling apart. My husband isn't much emotional support (somehow he thinks if I get a good nights sleep, all will be well), and my friends have family responsibilities and I don't want to impose too much on them. Impose away on your family, I garuntee they won't mind Tramadol is notorious for causing nausea/vomiting thoughit is good pain relief...I know that in the UK they often go straight for Morphine Sulphate tablets with oramorph liquid for breakthrough pain You need something better for sleep ...Lorazepam (Ativan) is not a sleeping tablet but an anxiolitic (same family as Diazepam) which is for anxiety, not sleep I'm sure the Hospice will sort things out for you meds wise.....perhaps a change in antiemetic as well?

  19. Watched this documentary last night on Netflix. All about drumming, Interviews with famous drummers, talking about their influences and how they got into drumming. Not ONE mention of Neil. At. All. I kept watching it thinking maybe they're saving the best for last. but no. I'm a huge an of percussion in general so that part was enjoyable. I've been in drum circles before, but nothing like the one that was in this film. I just can't help thinking there was a reason - legal or otherwise - as to why he wasn't mentioned at all. kinda dissapointed. your thoughts

  21. I've only spoken to 2 other people outside of this forum so that's hardly representative of the population at large I grant you, but both are in their late 50s, both have been rabid Maiden fans since the very beginning (pre- record deal) & both think it's rubbish. One of them sent me this text on Friday - "Sh1t title, sh1t cover, sh1t songs". My friend who is four years older than me and been a Maiden fan for longer than I have kinda feels the same way I do about the album. So, maybe there is something to what Rod said in the other thread about how it's the older longtime fans that seem to not be digging it. My brother who is just as big of a Maiden fan as me is afraid to give the album a listen because of all the long songs and some of the bad stuff he's heard from me and read online about it. So, there is certainly some dislike for Senjitsu outside of this forum.

  22. I've definitely seen some hate for it outside of here. I think this will probably be their most divisive release in quite a while.

I feel like maybe I love modern Maiden exactly as much as eighties. I now don't even notice all the repetition, not like I once did. To me, new era Maiden is a gift that keeps on giving. I mean I really didn't like Brave New World for years, and I didn't like The Book Of Souls at first either (but I put that down to it coming out around the same time as Nightwish- Endless Forms Most Beautiful, and well, that's still hands down my favourite album of the last decade). Maybe for many, this album will be like that.

  29. Thats the boat i was on TODAY. Was that Kennebunkport? Yes ! ♥ I took my girls to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse to watch the sunrise a few weeks back. There were whales and seals in the water just about 50 yards offshore. I think my retirement plan is coming into place. April through July at home in Mass. August and September in Bar Harbor. October through Christmas in Mass. Then head to Tucson until April. Just have to determine whether we'll have the drivable RV or the 5th wheel.

  32. If it's an unpopular opinion to state the guy who single-handedly wrote When the Wild Wind Blows, The Red and the Black, and Hell on Earth from the last three albums is still the best, then I'm glad to be controversial. I certainly don't want to be in The Writing on the Wall camp. ;) Edited (after reading J2112YYZ's post under this): If we're considering their entire career, Harris is imo the best writer in the band without argument no matter how you slice it. Hallowed Be Thy Name, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Alexander the Great, etc.

  34. We were scheduled to see Eagles in London last Sunday but sadly the UK shows succumbed to the pandemic. They were not rescheduled. I just hope we get an another opportunity to see them again in the future. Even without Glenn they are still very, very good. I hope you do too. Yes, I think Glenn's son Deacon, and Vince Gill have slotted in to the band really well. We got to see this lineup in Orlando in 2018 with Jimmy Buffett as support act. It was a great show. Yeah we saw the same tour in May of that year. Enjoyed it thoroughly. We did not have Jimmy Buffet opening however. :(

  37. I remember Staten Island as being nice, but that was three decades ago. It used to be nice. A long time ago. It's evolved(devolved?) into a place to be escaped from. Mission accomplished. Don't bother visiting, there's nothing there but overcrowding, strip malls, endless grey townhouse developments (they knock down 1 house and build 4), nasty drivers, high density red light and speed cameras..... Plus, you'd have to pay for the privilege of experiencing all that. I think it's > $15 now to get onto the rock. I mean, there are still a lot of good people there. Like any place. But it's more of a zoo than any place I've ever been.... Not recommended. That negative perception is based on a lot of reality.

  39. Hello stranger! Never saw it but you're right, a documentary about drumming greats without Neil Peart is a serious omission and calls the programmes credibility into question....that's not being a Rush fanboi, but simply objective!

  42. Now people are demanding the Ayer cut of Suicide Squad especially since he is not fond of the PG13 studio cut and even said the new one by James Gunn is much better. https://variety.com/2021/film/news/david-ayer-suicide-squad-directors-cut-1235030787/

  43. I've watched it a couple of times. IMO, a vast improvement over the theatrical version. Much more backstory and depth. One can see, based on this version, how much edge was taken off the theatrical version, which felt somehow a little too cutesy and leaned a bit too much on comedy. It's unfortunate that, now that they salvaged that film and made us want more, they're apparently playing the reboot game AGAIN with yet another Batman. They're never going to give the MCU a run for its money if they can't make up their minds what they want to do and stick with something for more than 2 or 3 movies.
