  1. Over the years, I've been noticing many people have different opinions on different albums Rush has put out. Being the guitar is too boring, Geddy's voice getting deeper, etc. But I was thinking, last night, that I honestly can't say I dislike any of their albums. So, it got me wondering as to why this is. And it kind of all boils down to my huge fanship of Geddy. Everything about him since the start of Rush's career has been exceedingly phenomenal. Whether it's to his bass skills, talent doing multiple things at once, or his voice. Now, I may be the only one who follows this band primarily for Geddy. Of course I still think Neil and Alex have tremendous amount of talent. But, I seriously can say I may be one of the lucky ones in the world who thoroughly enjoys every Rush album. I need to know if there are any others who do! Even enjoying Counterparts, Vapor Trails, Feedback, or even their self-titled album. Anyone with me?

  3. I have no idea. I'm just a Rush loving, bass playing, computer dork with a proclivity for Cylons. It's always nice to get some smiles from TRF though. Thanks, TM. :)

  4. I would go with The Garden. While lyrically Afterimage fits the loss of a loved one perfectly, musically i'm not sure if it's approprite to play in church. The Garden would be though, it's piano based song and has a more soothing sound to it.

  5. Both Mercury and Dickinson have already been mentioned several times, but they're too good not to mention again. Ian Anderson, particularly back in the 70's, was a great entertainer. Fish

  17. If you have to pick one 80s album by a rock band that's PERFECT for night time listening and night time listening only, I can't imagine anything topping Avalon by Roxy Music. Currently playing the title track.

  18. Well, we don't fall under the whole "Can-con" thing, so they don't get the exposure they deserve here in the States. Here's a little ditty of theirs I like... They strike me a bit like a Canadian Cold Chisel...not in their sound, but in that they seem to have a nation-specific flavor...or flavour. I married a Canuck, so I get it.

  19. Showmen. Singers are a dime-a-dozen. That's what I thought, but some of the posts seem to be talking about vocal ability. Dio for example. I saw him in 1984 and 2009. Great singer, and I loved the shows. I wouldn't call him a great show man though.

  25. I've thought the same thing. I think it's mostly that his face, like the rest of him, has filled out. The guy didn't have a lot of padding on him when he was young, and he's gotten, well, thicker through the years. You can see in this early picture that he was little more than skin and bones (and hair!) as a young man: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y234/bobwire/ByTor74--book-inside.jpg If you compare close-ups and look closely at his features, you see that they really haven't changed (nor have his facial expressions! ): http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x285/geddysmullet/eslged04.jpg http://www.studiotv.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Geddy-Lee-Bass-Rush-02.jpg The receding of his hairline also changes the appearance of the shape of his face. It's the same eyes, nose and mouth with a different background. I hope this doesn't make me sound creepy...

  29. ...great thread! yaay! ... the -40 wind chill is gone! But ... I woke up this am to the side gate slamming in a 60 k wind, looked out the front door only to find 10+ cm of fresh blowing snow ... it was light enough to shovel anyways and a balmy -6 C. Upon further inspection, I noticed abandoned tracks in the front yard where a meter reader or angry neighbor must have ventured in vain ... all that is left is a white hole where the dumbass must have biffed ... now the stupid cosmic gate won't latch anymore, so I just pushed snow against it to prevent it from banging because I too fed up with winter to fix the damn thing! I feel like putting up a sign on the front gate reading "enter at your own risk" .... KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!

  34. The best i've ever seen live are Bruce Dickinson and Steven Tyler. I haven't seen Areosmith since 1997 so I don't know how good Tyler is these days. But I saw them three times when they toured for Get A Grip and he was just everything you could want from a front man. He has the charisma, the look, the moves and just commanded your attention. When people talk about somebody having the "it" factor when it comes to being a frontman, Steve Tyler is at the top of the list. Bruce Dickinson is pretty much the metal version of that. Even with as big of a show as Maiden puts on, Bruce still grabs your attention and your eyes are always focused on him. He runs around the stage like a mad man, signing everything perfectly and always getting the crowd going. Bruce's stage presence can probably be felt outside the venue by people not even attending the show. That's how strong he is up there. I have to give Dio a mention here as well. I've seen him play small clubs solo, a theater with Sabbath in '92 and an amphitheater with Heaven & Hell in 2007. No matter the size of the crowd he always perfromed like the whole world was watching him. He was such gripping figure when he performed. Most of Dio's lyrics have a magical theme to them and that translated to his live show. Ronnie was truly "magic" on the stage.

  38. Should RUSH play all of the 2112 Suite in its entirety now that they released the 5.1 package. They could even show the Comic version of the story on screen as they play it? I think it would be pretty cool!

  40. You know, I was really involved some time ago in my town's local Punk scene, and I really got fed up with their attitude. They still believe the Ramones or The Clash are the best bands ever as though no other bands had came during the last 35 years. I almost got in a fight with a guy who was adamant Syd Vicious was a great bass player, obviously, I told him he wasn't , so he answered me something like "it dosen't matter, it's the image and the look that matter", anyway we argued for about half an hour and I ended up calling him "a f***ing groupie". But I still like a lot of punk music, I just find the ideology completely retarded.

  43. I like to smile at everyone I pass by, to be polite and to maybe make someone's day or restore their faith in the youth of today. I know it's not a really impressive act of kindness, but just getting one smile back seems to brighten my day. I like making other people smile, I've gotten a few in return that were so kind and sincere that they completely made my day on several occasions. :)
