The Analog Cub
Muse - Plug In Baby Love the effect Matt Bellamy does with his guitar, like a nasty cross between 8-bit chiptune and dirty fuzz :haz: Muse gets a lot of derision for being cheesy or ripoffs of Queen or Radiohead but damn if Bellamy isn't good at playing the guitar.

Plug-in Baby is one of the main reasons why I still have respect Muse despite them basically being a new era of pop rock rather than an addition to prog. Great song, my favorite by Muse.
Entre_Perpetuo
Speaking of Muse, another Bellamy favorite of mine is the perfect length, perfect feel, sheer perfection of a solo in "Madness." That's how you put a guitar solo in a pop song guys, with feeling, and class.
Blue J
Marc Ford- Freedom Fighter...from his album The Neptune Blues Club (2008) The solo to pay attention to starts technically at the 4:28 mark- but really from 4:54 to the end, he is just on fire. I hear echoes of both Stevie Ray Vaughan and '75-'76-era Alex Lifeson in it.

goose
musical masturbation ? Dumbest phrase critiquing music there is... And for it (along with "wankery") to be so prevalent on a rush forum of all places... I don't get it. I know, it is a ridiculous phrase Isn't every form of art just that ?? Just as not every painted landscape is "kitsch", not every guitar solo is "wankery". Of course, the crossing of the line can be subjective.
