How is that possible? It's such a heavy album. I'd say it's anything but sleep inducing. Ok, not as heavy(in a proto metal sense)as the early albums but definitely not something I would say is sleep inducing. To each their own I guess. Something I had to learn in my life. Just because I loved a song didn't mean anyone else would. Hard as that may be to comprehend. I know how you feel. Believe me. We're not all the same. That's what makes life interesting. That's the curse of having musical taste that isn't pop culture pap :)It's refined taste, not sheep running to whatever's popular.

The Garden puts me to sleep, shit sure.

Hmm, this list is on a sliding scale depending on my mood. However, I decided to let Itunes decide for me on the frequency of plays they've received: 10)Headlong Flight 9) Beneath, Between and Behind ESL 8) Bastille Day ATWAS 7) Limelight 6) Far Cry 5)Marathon 4)The Analog Kid 3) Manhattan Project 2) Marathon 1) La Villa ESL there's a few dozen more that got nearly as mush play as #10.

Damn, Jake looked sharp as hell in the third!

The Re3volting Cocks and Pigface are next up :)

I thinK Geddy and James probably would have gotten along fine because they are both rather creative and really driven. Lars, well even his dog hates him. I doubt James would have ever asked Geddy to join unless it were years later while Rush was on hiatus. I also doubt Geddy would have joined. Again, maybe if it was during that five year wasteland when there was no Rush, maybe Geddy would have toured with them. He seems to love performing and money, so that I could see happening. As far as Geddys style and sound go, he uses his sound to punch through the other frequencies. He'd obviously have to change that for Metallica, but I don't know how much you'd have ever heard him. The bass on their music is generally quieted. You'd never know this, but Robert is an amazing bassist and plays a beautiful classical guitar/Spanish guitar. His talents have really been wasted there and suicidal tendencies.

I think a lot of people here would love to see them make jokes of themselves like the 1/2Who and the Stones.

Never heard of Triumph? Here's Rik playing and singing Red Barchetta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uPs3Pk0mrg I mean he's a good singer and all but whoever thinks this sounds better than ol school Geddy is really wrong! Also, did he record the vocals while he was taking a dump? :D No it's not better than the original, not in any area. I don't think he's trying to beat it though, he's just paying homage. Ok... instrumental its kinda good (far away from Rush tho). But his voice.... I dont like it at all... you'd rather listen to Geddy sound like Peter Brady going through puberty If you don't like Geddy's voice, what are you doing here? Being a fan doesn't mean you have to be a drooling sycophant. I always liked his voive, but the past five or so years he sounds appalling. There's a certain segment of this forum who can see that and admit it, while there's another who thinks he still sounds as great as he did in 1982. THAT is delusional.

This is fantastic. When I was in high school back in the 80s, Triumph and Rush were my favorite bands. Emmett and Alex were always two of my favorite guitarists, so this may be something special.

I'm probably a bigger Zep fan that Rush fan and I totally agree because of this point.

Xanadu certainly sounded better live. Page always layered guitar tracks, so a lot of his live stuff sounded choppy and Stairway was no exception. Alex played it live like he did in studio, which is a total win. Plus, as much as I love Stairway, it's so beaten to death and overplayed, Xanadu gets the nod again.

Chopsticks are a guitar player's best friend! Specifically, an electric guitar player who owns a tube amp. When a tube go bad it makes the amp sound crappy, and one way that they go bad is they become microphonic -- meaning, the tube itself is picking up unwanted noise and is sending that noise through the amp. You test the tube by tapping it, and you want something firm to tap it with, but not something so firm (like metal or plastic) that you could break the glass. A chopstick is perfect, and I keep a pair with my gear just for that purpose. I have a Zithar. You can also use chopsticks to hammer the chords :)

Use your hands(fingers) An old girlfriend was Japanese and a lot of the stuff was eaten with the hands, which was weird to me since I generally don't touch my food because I'm apparently a pizza cutting freak :) But it's fine to eat with hands, except sashimi. And god I love Sushi. I wouldn't touch it until I got into college and dated this girl, then I fell in love with the stuff. The preconception always was that sushi is raw and people still have that silly idea. Most isn't. Watching their faces while I was trying to learn to use chopsticks was entertaining. You'd think they'd never tried teaching a dog to eat with a fork or something :)

Cocaine. Pretty bad from what I heard. He left the band originally back in 1981 then rejoined and then quit again. It's amazing he's still alive. I saw them on their casino tour a couple years ago when Walsh was still with them. His voice was passable but you could tell the years took their toll. Along with Walsh the only original members where Phil Ehart and Rich Williams. They're on a current tour and are playing Leftoverture in it's entirety. I'll probably pass on going since it's mostly a tribute band at this point. Isn't that pathetic? The Moodies are basically a tribute band at this point too. It's disappointing, but I wouldn't go as far to say it's pathetic. Their replacement guys at the concert a few years ago were excellent musicians and did justice to their songs. But it's still disappointing that there are so few still involved in the band. Kerry Livgren had a stroke a few years ago. In recent interviews he looks ok, but probably not up to playing on a tour. I still might go the Kalamazoo concert if I can catch some last minute cheap seats. But I'm not real motivated after just seeing them a few years ago. Even then it was just a 'greatest hits' concert. It might not be pathetic for them, but it is pathetic for the Moodies - the Moodies who once sold out not only one but two shows a day at MSG and couldn't even fill a movie theater once today. I think they prefer the more intimate venues. It affords them being able to use a smaller troupe, have shorter sets and be more flexible on where they play. Y'all have to remember, these dudes are 70 years old and cannot perform like they once did. Edge just gives a valiant attempt at the drums, but they've had a second percussionist for years. I give them a lot more credit than the Stones and that fraud Daltry and Pete like to call the Who. Those bands sound effin terrible and honestly do embarrass themselves. But the nostalgia is there and people consume it eagerly. I saw both those bands in the early 80s and they were amazing. Now watching them on video I can't help but drift off. But I've seen the Moodys three times, going on four soon and they sound magnificent. Like close your eyes and the LP is playing tight and smooth.

Because I thought they might be similarly liked, and so far I'm right. they're both fabulous songs, but like you said, David's guitar solo and just the general imagery of comfortably numb give it the edge. I just don't consider these prog songs.or bands. But I'm on record as stating that that term is really a pantload and a catch all for anything not metal, thrash, punk or rockabilly. And don't even get me started on the term classic rock

They are an interesting band and I've been following them for a few years. It's quality music, just some of the vocals are a bit hard to take. But Charlotte is just fine with the volume off, too :-) I'm a follower on Facebook and the guitar player blew out a testicle a year or so ago and kept playing until the show ended.

I don't think it's so much lazy as it is just letting technology do certain things and it frees him up to do more of what he loves, play bass.

Before you dismiss mushrooms, forget the shit most places put on pizza, whuch are those canned salt tablets or white button mushrooms, which are flavorless pig food. Try oyster mushrooms, portabella or any of the nutty wild mushrooms. I've even had pizza with morels on top with mild Italian sausage, and that was damn tasty.
