Watched the YT video of the first ever live performance of ATG. That was cool. And it was shot so that I didn't have to see Gers hamming it up. Even better.

Gers is Dangerous. i saw i video of him swinging his guitar.....like a moron.  it popped off went flying and hit a security guard in the head.  luckily the guy seemed OK but Can we get rid of Gers?

He's been with them for 33 years now. I figured everyone had moved past the whole get rid of Gers thing at this point. His total time with the band is almost the same as Adrian's.

just when i saw that gaurd get hit in the head it was just wreckless.  nobody would blink an eye if he wasn't there even 33 years on.

Nicko sounds absolutely fried. I think he's running out of gas.

Bruce on the other hand sounds better than he did on the last tour.

Or it's the start of the tour and he hasn't gotten into full tour mode yet. He is 71 so he might need a little more time to hit his groove on the road.

Yep that's also fair.

I'm absolutely floored by the setlist. Bruce looks like he's having a ton of fun, too.

For so many years they said they never played it because Adrian couldn't remember something he did in the solo. I guess he finally remembered or they figured out a way around it.

It's the galloping bit before Adrian's solo. He switched it around a bit, and I think he's playing that part one octave higher. Also...I did see the footage of them playing that song with Gers not appearing in it. Whenever he plays a solo from the classic period he messes it up - most notably Moonchild and Revelations. I'm really glad he kept his hands off the Somewhere in Time material, except for Heaven Can Wait.

Listening to the debut now.  The only band with instrumentals on par with Rush's.

Funnily enough it was listening to Maiden's debut album that got me hooked on that style of music and pointed me in the direction of Rush, so I've a lot to thank them for

Saw Maiden tonight in Toronto and they KICKED ASS!!! Alex Lifeson was in attendance. As soon as it finished, I went to the Loose Moose pub downtown, and the cover band "Maiden Canada" played a great set with deep cuts like Be Quick or Be Dead, Prowler, Futureal, Remember Tomorrow...you might recognize their guitar player, it's Nico from the YouTube channel Licks of the Beast.

Maiden and Metallica both have grown into prog tendencies .

Both bands forgot how to focus on strong songwriting. I'm all for prog leaning tunes but trim the length and get back to bridge, chorus (some kind of hook) for f**k sake!  Songs are now long and absolutely none are memorable.  Great riffs all over but nothing in a cohesive song structure that makes it stick in your head.

Maiden simply repeate the verse/chorus/verse formula for longer than necessary. Not prog at its finest.

I remember a review of Piece of Mind from, I think, Kerrang, at the time that said that Where Eagles Dare illustrated what was wrong with Maiden.  As someone who discovered them with Killers, I think they slowly drifted from what made me a fan.  I’m sure part of that is age (I was 16 or 17 when Powerslave was released).  There are songs on all of their albums, except the Bailey era, I enjoy.   But if I never listened to anything after 7th son again, it wouldn’t affect my life at all.  If Brave New World is someone’s favorite Maiden album, God bless them.

I listened to it yesterday or was that Friday? Anyway, it had been decades and it impressed me more than I expected it would.
