Whilst surveying the archiving process in this section, I found this thread. It's interesting to see how people reacted to hearing a 30-second clip of Far Cry for the first time, how it built anticipation for S&A, and it's especially interesting how it put a picture in fans' minds on what they thought the album would sound like.

It's always rough when you sober up and realize that the best was not yet to come.

It's fun to see the names of all the folks that used to frequent trf. Thanks for bumping, boss!

You gotta admit, hearing the hems chord brought back after all those years had to be a Rush of excitement. ;)

For me, S&A is one of Rush's best albums -- I love it.

I remember the excitement of getting the new Rush. I was in the Minneapolis airport. Felt a little guilty getting the 'pirated' version but not really as I knew I was gonna be buying it on cd anyways.

That was always the part that made it fine for me too, I knew I was going to buy it on release day, so grabbing pirated/shared songs and snippets beforehand was perfectly ok for me.

I really dug Far Cry. And at the time I enjoyed the album.

Man... this thread really makes me miss 2007. I remember that excitement. I played Far Cry on repeat the whole day it came out, I couldn't get enough of it...

I remember this night well. I miss the pre-streaming world where you'd look forward to buying an album on release day.

Snakes isn't my favorite Rush album but there's a lot of stuff on there I still like.

The S & A Show that I saw was fascinating. The band was at the end of the first leg of the Tour, and they were beat.

Neil looked particularly tired/grumpy. They had a trainwreck during Circumstances. :o

I saw them outdoors on that show, and they started with Limelight. In the late summer DAYLIGHT. It defeated the purpose of the song.

They sounded good on the second leg, but Neil's drums sounded like Tupperware.

Later I learned that John Rutsey had died that very day. I wonder if they found out before stepping onstage.

I remember the spine tingling anticipation around this time. Wondering what was in store upon hearing Far Cry. Thought it'd be a prog fest from the clip, with a modern twist.

That Hemispheres Chord was as shady as f**k. I stopped off after work to buy that CD and was expecting to hear modern classic Rush. I cannot describe my disappointment adequately. I was crossing the Outerbridge when I decided 'this sucks'. 5 tracks in...whatever that song is.

The only saving grace is MALNAR. Freaking Jaco fretless Geddy improv.

And yes, Leela still sucks.
