  2. Stupid bullshit. Kids should never be taught to ride a bicycle either because they might fall. I'd love to see the poster/ad promoting this trash: 2 little 7 year olds smiling and laughing as they sit in the school cafeteria having lunch together..A GIANT RED 'X' COVERING THE SCENE with the caption "Just say 'no' to best friends"

  5. Yeah never change only one string unless the set is fairly fresh. I check my intonation every time I change strings. While string gauges are pretty good there are still minor differences from string to string and with the slight changes in humidity can be enough to affect intonation. I change strings when they stop feeling fresh. I don't really like the sound of super fresh strings myself so I like them to settle a little as much as possible. When I change my strings I work the "give" out of them by rubbing them with a cloth vigorously and tugging on them to stretch them out before playing. Otherwise your strings can take up to a couple days to fully settle. This is an especially good technique for strat style guitars with trems. Also I am of the school of changing strings one at a time to keep tension on the neck at all times (as well as helpful for keeping your trem springs in the same tension as well). In other words don't take all of the strings off at once because the neck will respond by pulling back to compensate for the lack of tension and can cause worse problems. I learned this lesson the hard way. I had a 12 strung acoustic that I had strung up without the octave strings to make it a 6 string but the lack of neck tension it was used to created a crack in the headstock and it eventually broke off. Adjusting truss rods should only be done by someone who understands what they are doing. I noticed some fret buzz on one of my guitars up the neck the other day, eyed up the neck and saw some bow then made an adjustment. I have to adjust my basses and acoustic guitars more than my electrics it seems. Truss rod adjustments should be made in small increments of about 1/8 of a turn then let rest for at least 10 minutes before checking and continuing. With severe problems you want to take it to a luthier. Also knowing what to fix to solve a problem can be tricky. If you are getting some buzz on a fret but the neck is straight you may need to adjust the bridge saddle. Or the neck may be too straight and a little bow needs to be added, or the is a hump instead of a bow. Also buy a box of strings instead of packs. You know you are going to need them. They are cheaper and you aren't screwed because the store is closed or too far away. Also if you have a gig and you pop a a string you will have extras. I have so many busted packs and individual strings after dealing with some bridge or nut issues but they've come in handy.

  6. The answer is you only need to do them if you are experiencing problems with your guitar staying in tune, or if your intonation is off. As for how frequently you change the strings, that is a matter of preference as well. I like to wear my strings in pretty well. If they are still staying in tune, and I like their sound, then there is no reason for me to change them. I never break strings, even though I bend the hell out of them. But if I were to break a string, I'd just go ahead and change them all.

  9. Seventh Son is my favorite Maiden album but it wasn't their last epic one. I think Brave New World, A Matter Of Life And Death and The Final Fronteir are all epic albums as well. Dance Of Death is a good album but except for the title track and the awesome Paschendale you don't get an epic feel from that album. Since BNW, Maiden is more of a progressive metal band and I think that has really helped in making the newer material just as epic as anything they've done before.

  10. Hold on, let me buy some stock first. And whilst I would not be one to buy one of these. I wouldn't be surprised to see a line of idiots camping out for days in order to be one of the first people to have it. Welcome to America.

  19. Classy post, how do you do it. it's just my honest opinion, not that anyone else would agree with me!! So their child Sean should have lost both parents that night? Honestly? Disgusting. Okay, I stand corrected!! I wasn't even thinking of Sean when I responded to this thread. My anger was towards Yoko, not Sean, but I know he was a child who needed his mom in that great time of despair. I would never purposely wish him to suffer more than he already was. My mistake!! Sorry if I offended anyone else (IA) , I'm deeply sorry....I'm truly a very nice person.

  31. Hiya Duckie How are you my arbor dwelling feathered friend? I'm good thanks, how are you these days? :hi: :smoke: Busy, busy, busy.... nary a dull moment at our house. I'd like to say there's a light at the end of the tunnel, but I don't think there is any time soon - So we enjoy the busy-ness as much as we can and dream of those times we're told we will miss when we have nothing to do. I was just gonna say, one day when all is quiet in the Sunny/Digi household you'll be like "Wow man I sure miss those busy as heck days now!!" (I have to keep subtracting emotes from my earlier post in order to add a couple here)

  36. I often hear YYZ being talked about as one of the tougher songs to play. I disagree... the main riffs really are very straight forward and simple and there aren't much at all in the way of odd time signatures in the whole song, other than the opening morse code piece. And, that's simple too. For my money, La Villa HAS to be the hardest song for drums, guitar and bass. I've been playing drums all my life and now, at 50, I'm still not sure if I'm playing it right. The solos at the end are nuts, but do-able. The whole songs is crazy really. The guitar solos (including the opening on classical guitar) are maybe THE best Alex has ever done. The bass solos near end, in and out of the drum solos are wicked. Hemispheres is really not too bad on drums at all, but guitar and bass, I don't really know. It sounds tough... but I don't play guitar or bass. I still don't know how Geddy could ever sing AND play that damn thing at the same time - without losing his mind. Talk about patting your head and rubbing your balls at the same time... or however that saying goes. :D

  48. QUOTE (Tony R @ Mar 1 2012, 01:46 AM) Never liked them at the time, always struck me as "rock" music for bank managers. I listened to some of their stuff recently and found them excruciating. At the time they were compared to The Beatles and there are obvious similarities but they never progressed what the Beatles did, it was more "homage". I met Bev Bevan once, nice bloke and decent drummer. They certainly won't appeal to all prog rock connoisseurs, as they definitely were more in the pop vein, but I still think they're awesome. Inconsistent, yes, but they had a slew of pretty amazing songs IMHO... Another fave:
