Thoughts on Black Anima? I love the songs, but I find the production really deters me from spinning it more. I think it's one of their best though, in terms of songwriting and tone.

I think it's really good. There are definitely some production issues. I don't know, the sound is very noisy kind of like Delirium. There's a lot of sounds and stuff going on in the songs. Sometimes things get a little lost in that. The weirdest thing is the vocal affect they use on the intro. I don't know weather I should be creeped out or laugh that she sounds like an evil chipmunk.

Funnily enough the band say that the intro barely has any effects. Cri chose to sing super high, to create an unnerving feeling. The intro I think is a second go at trying to do what they did on Dark Adrenaline. The album had an intended intro as well. It was a Japanese bonus track. I like it a lot. Sorta surprised that didn't make the cut but BA's did. I enjoy the intro, but I can see why for some it's a skip (especially as Sword Of Anger would have made a flawless album opener).

What bugs me the most is super high notes, like key passages in Veneficicium, are so obviously autotuned they sound distorted.

Lacuna Coil are my favourite band ever for dual male/female vocals, and in general, though neither singer is the most technical of all time, something about their chemistry is magic to me. To see vocals done a bit dirty is painfully hard to get past.

Lightfoot! (10/10)

The Way I Feel (9/10)

that album has some of the worst production choices.  i thought that would be a one off thing but nope it continues on  that awful Coma-lot of bullshit remake.

This compilation is what made me a Priest fan. I never cared for their hits the radio played. I always felt like those songs just sounded like something any random metal band at the time could write. My friend kept telling me to get Metal Works so I could hear a wider variety of what the band had to offer. I did and became a fan after that. They're one of those bands who I think are not properly represented by their hit singles.

I would agree that they are way more than there singles.

In my case I was aware of them but not really interested in them for some time.  The leather and bikes turned me off.  Then I went to see them on the Ram it Down tour.  Or rather I went to see Cinderella who was opening.  Priest was just a plus.  Cindarella was GREAT.  One of the very best opening acts I have ever seen.  Then Priest came out and blew them off the stage.  To this day this is the second best show I have ever seen - the best being Rush on the VT tour.  The song that most impressed me was Beyond the Realms of Death.  When they played that - wow, I knew I was seeing a special show.  Shortly after that I picked up Judas Priest Live (the live album they recorded on the Turbo tour) and was just blown away again.  Such a good live album.  That cemented Priest as an elite band for me.

For me, Metal Works came out in 1993 just as the dark ages began.  It was one of the last albums I was able to get on vinyl as they were pushing everybody into CD's by that time and as the horrible Nirvana broke on the scene around this time and everything (musically) died.  So it was the end of a generation album for me - fun, very good, but harkening back to musics golden era.  Almost a farewell album.

Gordon Lightfoot-Cold on the Shoulder-(10/10)

this man is giving elton's 70's stuff a run for me.  he had one stunner after another in the 70's.  of course i can't see folks agreeing unless you like folk singer/songwriter stuff, lol

Mastodon - Leviathan

All That Remains - The Fall Of Ideals

Thoughts on Leviathan? I think it's brilliant, one of six albums by Mastodon that I think are perfect.

My best assessment is just incredible satisfying. It perfectly fits a sludgy, heavy, proggy, nerdy shaped hole in me.  Had it for at least a year now (probably longer) and every return listen is better than the last.

Blood Mountain. Before it came out, fans were scared that going onto a major label with a budget would lead to something really commercialised and mainstream.

Then the album dropped and...that level of insanity is just NEVER heard of anymore from a metal band on a major label. It's still my favourite Mastodon album. It's batshit crazy in the best way!

You need to get to Emperor Of Sand. I took forever to get into that one, now it's one of my favourites.

Well hang on the was my very first listen of Blood Mountain, I need to digest this one first, lol. But yeah I have been interested in Emperor Of Sand for a while.

Yes, Blood Mountain was super crazy. Oddly manages that while also being more melodic than Leviathan, which is an awesome feat of artistic evolution. I have no clue if it will vie for a favorite spot with me, but I think currently Hushed And Grim is at the top of the dog pile.

I love H&G but I prefer my Mastodon with a little stank on it 🤣

I can see you loving Crack The Skye.
