chemistry1973 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Play Deep played non-stop throughout high school. So many happy memories associated with that record. 1
Derek19 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 (edited) I'm sorry, to hear, see, and read this. Another talented musician has passed away. He will be missed, and remembered. My condolences, to his family, and friends. R.I.P., Tony, and John. Edited December 29, 2024 by Derek19
zepphead Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Not a band I knew a lot about, but sad to see another musician pass away. RIP Tony Lewis. 1
invisible airwave Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Your Love is my favorite 80s song of all time. If you want a great blend of 80s style pop and rock, listen to The Outfield. RIP 2

RushFanForever Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 (edited) One of the YouTube channels I like is the Professor of Rock (official one and VEVO one) by Adam Reader. Adam interviewed Tony Lewis about 'Your Love' and the makings of the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkAqu9BQ1Zk Edited October 20, 2020 by RushFanForever 2
Todem Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 (edited) I loved their second album the best. Bangin. Not a weak track on it. But it did not do nearly as good as Play Deep. I saw them live once. They opened for Night Ranger in 1987. They were very good live as well. I know Spinks passed away several years ago. Sad to see this news. 62 is far too young. Krystal Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I liked that band. They had some good songs. RIP 1
Presto-digitation Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Somewhere In America is my favorite song of theirs. Big loss. 1
edhunter Posted October 21, 2020 Author Posted October 21, 2020 I've played and sang Your Love in several bands, and also Since You've Been Gone at one gig in 2001. Ballbusters... I always loved the 3 part "Try to stop my hands..." part in Your Love. It contains a vocal diminished chord. Not very common. 1

It sounds very similar to the debut - the songs are similarly constructed, but the production is a little more refined. 1
Leanne Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 (edited) Your Love is a great song and The Outfield was a great 80s band. You will be missed Tony. Edited October 22, 2020 by Leanne
Steevo Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 I'll have to check out at least one of their albums after this.
grep Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 So, I found this thread from google - searching for The Outfield. I am obsessed with this band, and can't believe I missed them in the 80's. Holy shit. I've had their records in heay rotation, just like in the old days when I discovered Triumph and Zebra. Such feel good music. RIP Tony and John. 1
