My favourite American band is Grand Funk Railroad, because they've admitted they're an 'American Band'.

"...........we come into your town, we help you party down........"

First concert I ever attended.

I love GRAND FUNK!!!

It's weird their name originally was Grand Funk Railroad.

Then they switched it to Grand Funk.

Then later they went back to Grand Funk Railroad.

The early 70's stuff KICKS ASS!!!! From Flint Michigan!!

I love the first two Smashing Pumpkins records but OMG Billy's voice drives me nuts too! Like a fuckking chainsaw on a chalkboard. His cover of "Limelight" sucks.

MCIS is good despite some filler like Take Me Down and Tales Of A Scorched Earth. The latter is Marilyn Manson lite compared to real angsty rockers like XYU and Ode To No One. Set The Ray To Jerry and Marquis In Spades should have replaced those two songs.

His voice goes too far for me on XYU, though. He sounds like he's having a temper tantrum at times.

Good list; but my 3 favorite American "bands" are not on there:

* Frank Zappa

* Tool

* King's X

I saw TOOL at the Frank Erwin Center January of last year. They rocked the house. They also had a super weird opening act. The Frank Erwin Center is also where I first saw Rush, which was the first concert I ever attended.

I went with Soundgarden. They never made a bad album and just kept on getting better... yes, VH would be easy to choose. Of what's on the list, Allman Brothers, The Doors, Santana get acknowledgement. Tool is great. Primus sucks. The Monkees. Mr. Bungle.

Yeah I still stand by a lot of that ranking I posted months back. I will say since Eddie passed away that Van Halen probably moved up a few spots from where I had them. Also I still think Styx belongs in this poll and they very well may be my favorite American band. Also Weezer is way up there for me as well.

Van Hagar > Van Roth

Egads.

Now he's just trolling.

No, when I choose to listen to VH it is more likely I'll select Hagar era songs or albums.

I get it. I have a nephew that would agree with you. OU812 is an excellent album. Its like the whole Ozzy Sab/Dio Sab thing. Both are quite different but great.
