2020 really stinks so far! RIP, Rupert. :rose: Danforth & Pape, the Facebook Rush t shirt place, has put up a nice tribute.

I think I am in the minority here but I like the sound of Presto and enjoy Roll the Bones as well.

"Oh, the wind can carry

In the available light

I'll go with the wind…

We're very saddened to hear that Rupert Hine, the musician, songwriter and record producer has died at the age of 72. During over 50 years in the music industry, he produced over 130 albums, two of which were with Rush.

Rush's 13th studio album, the magical Presto in 1989 and the fantastic Roll The Bones, their 14th album released in 1991. He also worked with Saga on the extraordinary Worlds Apart (one of our favourite records of all time) and the wonderful Heads or Tails.

Rock in peace Rupert."

Another Rush family member has left us, very sad news, indeed.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Hine.

Thank you for the impact you have had on all of our lives as Rush fans.

Thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.

Michael Sadler of SAGA (related article here) posted a tribute to Rupert Hine on his own Facebook page, which the official SAGA Facebook page shared.

Rupert Hine produced SAGA's two biggest albums, which are Worlds Apart (1981) and Heads Or Tales (1983).

I'm sorry, to see, and hear this. He will be, and is missed. My condolences, to his family, and friends. R.I.P., Rupert.

My ears just picked up on something.

I'm listening to the chorus of 'Scratching the Surface' by SAGA and the stacked vocal harmonies are similar to what's in 'War Paint' ("boys and girls together, paint the mirror black") and 'You Bet Your Life' ("the odds get even") by RUSH.

This would appear to be a Rupert Hine trademark production technique with recording vocals.

Rest in peace.

Thank you for the sounds and showing these guys to be more than they were, always stretching their strengths and leading them into new directions.

I have to wonder if Neil was inspired by Jeannette Obstoj, who was Rupert Hine's former lyricist from his solo work.

In the song 'Working Them Angels', there's the following lyric.

"Filling my spirit with the wildest wish to fly"

Hine had a song titled 'Wildest Wish to Fly', from his 1983 solo album of the same name.

In 'Grand Designs' there's the following lyric.

"We break the surface tension"

Hine's 1981 solo album Immunity has a song titled 'Surface Tension'.

In 'Roll The Bones', there's the following lyric.

"For the want of immunity"

Hine's 1981 solo album Immunity has a song titled 'Immunity'.

These scenarios might seem like random occurrences, but you wonder where inspiration comes from?

Presto was my first proper Rush tape. I had ASoH, but this was my first actual album of new material.

I was so excited when I bought it. And I loved it. Still do. Rupert Hine played a huge part in my Rush fandom, and becoming a musician.
