    The Worst of Rush

Tears instead of The Twilight Zone for sure
  2. I'd like to hear Stern interview Geddy. Stern has the ability to conduct very goo interviews and this book clearly shows Howard sees Rush in a different light. Not normally Stern's kind of music but Howard will turn for or against you if there's something he likes or dislikes personally about someone. I think he liked Pink Floyd until Waters criticized Israel. Stern's one of those Bruce Springsteen/Bo Jovi fans - Rush isn't going to be something he can understand. He claims to know "all the songs" but what he knows is The Spirit of Radio and Tom Sawyer and since those songs aren't about sex/cars or in 4/4, he rejects them.
  3. David Bowie - 1980 Floor Show. I played that "Dollars in Drag" vinyl boot to death back in the eighties. Now YT has the original Midnight Special show in near perfect quality. I miss the comedy bits that TAKRL put in between the songs though
  4. A guy who loves music and has a pretty decent YT channel with other guys who love the music that we do. I like Sea of Tranquility and think ol Pete delivers his thoughts without being obnoxious about it. Dude must have a crazy large cd collection. I like when he has Martin Popoff on, very informative. Odd thing with Popoff, we like a lot of the same bands but seemingly for very different reasons
  5. My ear and technical musical knowledge isn't as good as yours so I don't really notice the tempo changes in ESL. I'll just say that I don't think they had lots and lots of MP live shows to choose from for the ESL album. My guess is that all 3 Toronto shows and the Montreal show were recorded multi-track. The only other MP show recording we have confirmation on is the Edmonton show June 25th, and I don't know if that's a multitrack recording or just a board tape. Having listened to a fair bit of live recordings from MP tour and editing compilations using various performances stitched together and then trying to sync that to video, I found Rush's tempos very consistent. Now the Signals tour... whoa, that's a different story

    Rush sighting

Ok I really tried to find an all encompassing "Rush sighting" thread but failed, but this sighting is far too important to let it pass by. Second album from the top of the stack of albums that Neiman is holding 3:40 into the video
  7. 1976 Presence - Led Zeppelin Station to Station - David Bowie Rocks - Aerosmith 1977 Animals - Pink Floyd High Class in Borrowed Shoes - Max Webster On Stage - Rainbow 1978 Hemispheres - Rush Van Halen - Van Halen Heavy Horses - Jethro Tull (Although I think this is peak year for the 70's double live album that I love so much, so I could easily have 3 double live records as my faves) 1979 Triumph - Just A Game An Act of Goddo - Goddo Teenage Head - Teenage Head (went all Canadian here) 1980 Permanent Waves - Rush Women and Children First - Van Halen Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath 1981 Moving Pictures - Rush You Are What You Is - Frank Zappa World's Apart - Saga 1982 The Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden Blackout - Scorpions Screaming for Vengeance - Judas Priest 1983 Da Da - Alice Cooper Holy Diver - Dio Queensryche - Quennsryche (technically an EP but man I played it to death) 1984 Ride the Lightning - Metallica Thing Fish - Frank Zappa Powerslave - Iron Maiden 1985 Power Windows - Rush The Last Command - WASP Misplaced Childhood - Marillion I started in 1976 because that's the first year I started buying albums I tried not to just automatically list a Rush album for every year - but I could have
  8. Probably, but if they're not listed and maybe you have to search for them, makes it a bit more interesting. Like Nevermind had that unlisted track way after the album proper was over, or The X-Files soundtrack where you had to hit pause on your cd player and then search backwards to discover the "secret" track. But yeah bonus tracks on every edition of a new album kinda pointless yikes - should have re-read my post before submitting - edited for terrible goofs
  9. If you haven't hard this yet, here is something that will make up for Live Magnetic Air falling a little short Check this set list out 1) Charmonium (tape) 2) High Class in Borrowed Shoes 3) Oh War! 4) Here Among the Cats 5) In Context of the Moon 6) Gravity 7) Coming Off the Moon 8) Diamonds Diamonds 9) Toronto Tontos 10) Rain Child 11) Astonish Me 12) Waterline 13) The Party 14) Beyond the Moon 15) Hangover 16) America's Veins 17) Let Your Man Fly 18) Research (at Beach Resorts)
  10. Didn't see this anywhere here but didn't want to start a new thread. Geddy on PBS News Hour
  11. He had a long career. I remember when they did a push to get popular overseas in the early eighties and kind of marketed as a heavy rock/metal band. They were not. They were a rock band with some heavy moments and much more softer moments. Electric Jewels and Stand Back were my favourite records. Harder Faster too. Too much so-so material for me to put them in a top tier level, still a Canadian Rock legend. Thanks for the music Myles, you were a good one

  13. Love them, one of my all time faves. Small discography. 5 studio albums, 1 single live album and 1 best of released shortly after the band's demise. Pye's lyrics were a bit Beefheartesque which is not for all tastes but I loved them. Not a bad record in the bunch. A couple of years ago the fellow who runs maxwebsterlive.ca had a treasure trove of live board tapes, unreleased studio material and audience recordings and shared them. What a gift he gave to all of us fans. There was enough unreleased songs included in those tapes that would make up another 3 maybe 4 studio records. A little bit of prog, a little Zappa, a little Beefheart and a lot of Canadiana High Class in Borrowed Shoes is generally considered their best album but all 5 records have plenty to offer
  14. I haven't watched any of these things but I have enjoyed the CBC interviews he has done - that's all I need. I just went to TicketMaster for the Massey Hall event and first off, am surprised it's being held at such a large venue and then completely blown away at the prices of tickets from $120 up to $600 for front row - not re-sale. Yikes. This is the kind of thing I might have considered if it was at the local bookstore and free
  15. Interview with Tom Power on Q, I'm just a couple of minutes into it, Power is a good interviewer
  16. I suspect these lists use the same idea like sports radio/columnists do. Be controversial, intentionally annoy to get the clicks/eyeballs/attention that they all don't deserve.
  17. I like it quite a bit. I'm a moderate fan of the band, probably own about 15 or so of their albums. Better than an average KISS album and much better than that steaming pile released before The Elder (Unmasked). I think it stands alone among KISS albums, not like Unmasked or the following album Creatures of the Night. A little pretentious perhaps but I'm fine with that sort of thing Not a bad track on the record imo - which is rather unique for KISS records, as many of them have 1 or 2 killer tunes and a whole lot of pedestrian tracks Mr. Blackwell is no great shakes but even that tune is not so bad
  18. 2 super creepy tracks from Throbbing Gristle turns my stomach

    There are no words

    i) it ain't terrible ii) I'll take a 1977 Geddy singing Eleventh Earl of Mar please
  20. I really like G/P and have no issues with the sound or mix. I just find the idea of a producer who has been at the helm for one of the best selling albums of all time, twiddling the knobs for musical acts that aren't very Rush-like, intriguing. Coupled with the fact that Peter Henderson was an eleventh hour replacement, I wondered if Symczyk had made overtures.
  21. No extra info but would love to know if he ever tried to make contact with the band and if so what year. P/G might have benefited, that was a difficult time with Lilywhite bailing on the project, leaving the band high an dry
