  3. Congrats, Rangers. You are no longer the Buffalo Sabres of MLB.

  4. Something tells me Reggie‘s numbers would be a lot higher if he had 2 extra rounds of playoffs every year. Just like when Mickey Mantle‘s postseason home run record was broken, a big deal was made about it. No mention that Mantle’s home runs all came in the World Series, because he never had a playoff series.

  6. I just can't really believe it. My dad took me to a Rangers game the first year they moved here. I've been a fan since, but it's been tough. I think the thing that is most satisfying about this championship is that they did it the way they have always played, with slugging. But they added enough defense and pitching to make it happen. I can't tell you how much I love this team.

  12. It will be the most streamed song of the year. And then 2 greatest hits packages that are 50 years old that feature songs that are between 60 and 53 years old will be the most streamed/downloaded albums of the year. But sure, tell me how there are more influential bands in history.

  13. Also one of his worse for understand WTF he's singing. When I think of it, there's a few tracks on Awake that fit this description. But it's still my favorite DT album. I wouldn't want James to sing the songs any other way, it's operatic and fits the material on the album perfectly. He's an underrated singer, most bash him because he's not metal. DT is a prog band ffs. Is he my favorite thing about DT? Definitely not, but he's as much a part of DT's sound as the shredding.

  16. Credit where it's due: good work, Rangers. Maybe in sharing Spring Training facilities, some of that stardust can rub off on the Royals.

  18. John Smoltz, for some damn reason, has had trouble praising the Rangers this entire postseason. After Semien's home run he did manage to sum up this team's run with one phrase: "They are relentless." Indeed. You have to play perfect baseball against the Rangers. If you make one mistake against them, you're done. You make an error or a bad pitch and it feels like you just gave up a 5-run homer. That's how fast it happens, and they've done that all year, especially in the playoffs. It was fun to watch.

  19. You know, if I had heard Fade to Grey first I probably would have the Weapon lower. Is that fair? Not really. But it's true. It matters to me that something sounds original to me. And fair or not, I heard the Weapon when I was young and well before Visage. I will forever hear the Weapon out of the context of Visage, even while absolutely agreeing that I'd feel different otherwise. I will say that I genuinely like the Weapon better, though. That would be true either way.

  20. Agreed that some of the flashy beeps, bells, and blasts of synth age poorly. But they clearly don't lose me like they lose you. Force Ten is overindulgent for sure. Love the song, but it's dropped big time over the years. I hate that synth intro to Between the Wheels, but the rest is so good I have it far higher. Tai Shan? Okay, that's fair. To me it works as an intro to an epic, but instead just continues like it's enough for a song in itself. Chemistry is the least of these (Tai Shan excepted). It's goes nowhere. The Weapon, Manhattan Project, and Territories? Oh man. You're killing me, Goose. The Weapon is a song that has risen over the years, initially I found it weaker. But I love it now. The way it keeps driving forward. Manhattan- that part you mentioned- that's what the song is all about! Building to that moment, the payoff is everything. And Territories is one of my favorites. That lyric you mention may not be strong, but it's intentional. It's simple because the assertion is that the mentality saying those things is simple. That lyric is a direct challenge to a simplistic mindset. Someone might disagree, of course, but it's well written for the intent I think. Of course, that song spoke to this adolescent perfectly, so I'm biased. It's my Subdivisions.

  21. I wonder of they'll bury him face down like he requested. A great coach, and one I admired for a long time. Got to see him present a few times at coaching clinics, and he was always entertaining.

  22. He reconciled with Indiana and his players in the last three years or so, so while you can never be sure, chances are good that he did (which, quite frankly, I didn't think would ever happen.)

  23. Comments on his obit at The Washington Post were shut down after about 30 minutes. I was surprised that they were allowed at all. He passed away, but did he find peace? We may never know.

  28. Yeah, yeah -- what he said! That solo in "The Weapon"! The build-up! The slow burn! The vibes! Okay on the HYF stuff, of course . . . As much as I like Power Windows, I was that disappointed in HYF.

  30. Well that's interesting news. A signed letter? Actually? If he does that for every show, he won't be doing anything except signing stuff for at least a couple days...

  32. Time to venture into the synth era. The stretch of Signals thru Hold Your Fire saw the increasing use of synthesizers and keyboards, as well as Neil rejecting fantasy writing in favor of exploring a range of social issues. The early two synth era albums have aged well for me, the other two not so much, especially HYF. Each has songs I really like or even love, but each also has a song or two that just doesn't do it for me. Here's Goose's Not So Magnifi-synth Seven: 149. Tai Shan (A bit much, isn't it?) 148. Force Ten (Too many 80s Casio noises) 147. Territories (Better people, better food, and better beer?) 146. Between the Wheels (Those keyboards are just grating) 145. The Weapon (Too meandering for me, and the lyrics don't do it for me) 144. Manhattan Project (I do love the "Pilot of Enola Gay flying out the shock wave..." moment) 143. Chemistry (Another meandering tune with little dynamics)
