  1. I think this album deserves its own thread on the 50th anniversary of its release.

  2. I'm just sad that he wanted time with Olivia and that was taken from him. Would relish seeing him happy with Carrie, enjoying life. He left us with such an incredible body of work and he didn't owe us anything more. RIP

  11. Rush- Clockwork Angels Something I really want to say about this album, I have always felt it carries through musically in a way that feels like an ongoing stream of consciousness. It's a beautiful album that the more time passes, the more I appreciate it. It doesn't feel like a collection of songs, more like on long piece of music. It's grandiose and cinematic, and at times I can forget what I'm listening to and think it's a movie if I shut my eyes. A stunning album, ten years on, I think I love it more than ever.

  14. Neil is #1, but I didn't get into Rush until my late 30's. Before then it would have been a 3 way tie: Carl Palmer (ELP) Bill Bruford (Yes/KC) & Phil Collins (esp. his work with Brand X).

  24. Which is the most anti-football rule of all time, the second yellow for celebrating - and if the goal is not allowed, all that follows should be moot. I`d never fine a player for that at my (heavily fictional, bizarrely mismanaged) club. In the context of that match and Juve`s season, 2-1 down to 3-2 up, he was right to go nuts. And the big fight that followed - nobody everybody wants to see that. Games where one has no vested interest can be the best.

  25. I wouldn't have wanted the band to make a comeback or reunion. Calling it quits for good was the perfect way for this band to end. Wanting them to play again is just selfishness on our part.

  26. I've said it before and I will say it again: I love HYF. The mixing is what it is but the softness feels very comforting to me. HYF in it's entirety puts me in a creative mood. Most songs are energetic and beautiful, and the bass lines are delicious. Tai Shan has a different feel to it than the previous songs on the album but usually I listen to it as well.

  27. That's awesome! I was in the middle of the main seated section. It was an incredible show for sure! I ran up to the front right as they finished to get the setlist and a pick

  28. For me it isn't a matter of soft and wimpy, it's that HYF hurts my ears. The difference between HYF and the two albums that came after it is that its problems were created during mixing, not mastering. RTB and Presto were mixed just fine (albeit with a certain style in mind - more Talk Talk, less Black Sabbath), but neither one has ever been mastered properly. I did a personal "remaster" of both using the Audio Fidelity discs as a starting point. For RTB I cut about 3dB out of the upper mids (3 - 8 kHz) and added 1dB to the bass cloud (250 - 500 Hz), and I did something similar for Presto, albeit a little less dramatic. Both were greatly improved and sound fine to my ears. Clear, punchy, and full. Would I have preferred a thicker guitar tone on those albums? A chunkier bass? Sure. But that's a question of style, a matter of personal taste. The albums were mixed with a clear vision in mind, and they achieved what they set out to do. They're objectively well-mixed, even if people don't particularly like the concept the band and Rupert Hine had in mind. HYF, on the other hand, had a vision and failed to achieve it. It's objectively a bad mix. The instruments just don't sound right: the kick drum is weak and flabby, the guitars are harsh and grating, etc. The whole effect is to make the album sound thin and muddy at the same time; it's an awful combination. It sounds like a demo tape rather than a finished album. Listen to the drums on Presto and compare them to HYF, there's a world of difference there.

  29. I remember the bad old days, 10 years ago, when the Dolphins were the Patriots bitches. Fish have won 4 straight and 5 of the last 6 against NE. Colts and Texans can't finish, get a sister kisser. Lions gonna Lion, ho hum. But the Pack loses, I always enjoy that.

  30. Remembering my father on the anniversary of his death. 1976 to 1978, can't remember exact year, but before '79, when he would have reached 65 (and 108 now). RIP, Dad.

  32. It's not a matter of too much reverb, it's that all the damn instruments are crammed into the midrange. The kick drum sounds like a muffled thump, the guitars have such a crazy upper mid boost that they're painful at high volumes, the bass is thin and twangy, and everything else sounds kind of grainy and indistinct. It's a terrible sounding album, especially compared to the lush and full sounding Power Windows. I don't know what happened to Peter Collins between 1985 and 1987, but he forgot how to use a mixing board. Presto is actually a huge step up from HYF.

  33. Machine Head Testament All That Remains Machine Head.......oh Machine Head. When they decide to go goofy and awful. they honestly give Mateliica a run. like IMO Supercharger is just as bad as St. Anger and at times worse. HOWEVER when this band gets serious. They are for me.....Seriously in the conversation for best metal band. Testament. Their later output is for me their best stuff. just brutal. I'm still new to ATR but they made at least 3 awesome albums that will be in my rotation regularly now. Mick
