Way back in the day, I used to subscribe to Playboy Magazine. I will never forget reading the Playboy Advisor column one day (yes, I did actually read the articles in Playboy ). A guy wrote in about his difficulty in finding out what his girlfriend wanted and liked in bed. He kept asking, "How do I find out _____?" The Advisor gave a simple, two-word answer: Ask her. :ebert: :ebert: :ebert:4 points

In all of the excitement and anticipation of being on this show, I can't believe I didn't let my fellow Rush fans know that my partner and I made it on to Shark Tank with our trackless train business, the Fun Time Express!! We were just on last Friday - it's here at abc.go.com - it may be available on other sites that I cannot link to (ABC now owns my soul - ;) I feel bad - I may not have a ton of friends here, but I have been posting on this site and formally at CP for many years and wish I had let you guys know. This was a pretty monumental event for Stan (my partner) and I - thousands of people try out to pitch their business on this show and not only were we chosen, but our segment aired! I actually had no idea Stan had sent them an email about our business until we got a call asking for a video submission. Being on the creative side of our businesses, I put together a pretty hilarious audition tape - and needless to say, after months of paperwork and phone calls - we were flown to L.A. and had a train delivered to the studio for our taping. It was easily the most intense and nerve wracking experience of my life. Anyone who knows the show or is a fan, I can tell you this - it is 100 percent legitimate. The Sharks know absolutely nothing about you until you come through those doors. You don't get a second chance to deliver your pitch - there are no "re-takes" and the negotiations you see on air real (although edited, of course). If you aren't on point, they will shred you. I wont reveal the outcome if you haven't seen it, but it's a hoot. So take a look if you are interested - we are episode 524, the third pitch. I'm Kevin, the blonde haired dude in the engineer outfit. If anyone had told me a few years ago that I would be on national television pitching my choo choo train business in a pair of overalls, I would have slugged my drink and laughed. Life is weird.3 points

Well, the temperature hits above freezing for a high tomorrow and will keep going up, so hopefully that's the last of Winter in Manitoba. On an unrelated note, today I woke up to a huge flock of birds (robins and a smaller one I can't identify) all landing on the berry tree out my window, I would say that it was a nice thing to wake up to for spring coming, but being half asleep, all I could think was "AUUUGH THEIR COMING RIGHT FOR ME!!! HITCHCOCK WAS RIGHT"2 points

I think you guys would be awesome at The Lost Horizon. It's been around since the late '70s. I know GnR, Anthrax, Slayer, and many others played there back in the late '80s. Wish I could've been old enough to go to some of those. The relatively-big names I've gone to see there are Taproot (2010), Kittie (2011), and Sense Field (2001). I saw Scott Ian's spoken-word show there in March. My ex-gf saw Reel Big Fish there a couple times within the past five years or so. I know over the years they've also hosted tribute bands of Phish, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, and coming up sometime soon there's a band playing Grateful Dead stuff for two nights. I must admit, I'm not much of a night owl so my knowledge of live music venues is relatively limited...I know my favorite local Syracuse band, Candid, plays a lot at Mac's Bad Art Bar in Mattydale/North Syracuse... Chief Big Way, which is Joey Belladonna's classic rock covers band, plays at Coleman's every couple of months...that's more of a bar than a concert hall though... I was listening to some of you guys' stuff on Youtube last night after dinner...loved Prime Mover!!! My fave from HyF!!! Also thought YYZ/drum solo/Digital Man was a fantastic combination.1 point

Well the Rush relation is obvious, but I also chose it because I make my living working with computers. So in an abstract way I chose because I happen to be a Digital Man.1 point

See these are the songs that should have been included on the re-release of the album. Not Fade Away You Can't Fight It Garden Road This would have made it worth buying you already owned it.1 point

16 April 2014 Wednesday Special Edition 'Mysterious Animal' Attacks Borneo Villagers http://i.imgur.com/Mq0Yw9c.png An Indonesian plantation worker and a 75-year-old farmer got the shock of their lives when they were attacked by an unknown animal species on two separate occasions earlier this month. The farmer, Aris Kuna of Kampung Paon Gahat, was attacked by the rare animal while attending to his pepper garden about noon. The foreigner was attacked a week later at a plantation near Kpg Baing while gathering oil palm fruit bunches. The animal that attacked the duo was described as having a "bear and wild boar" resemblance. Fellow workers and villagers who saw the carcass could not identify the animal species. “In all my life venturing into the jungle, hunting and such, I’ve never come across this species,” 62-year-old Louis Nyaoi said. The farmer said that the animal made a strange sound and rushed toward him, at one point standing on its hind legs. The reign of terror—or at least consternation—ended when the farmer, holding a sickle, promptly sliced the creature up. The animal was described as about two feet long, with a long, pig-like snout and long, sharp claws. It also gave off a horrible odor that got much worse after death. http://www.theborneo...strange-animal/ http://i.imgur.com/WRf4epq.jpg Photo of the hapless creature's foot1 point

I had an interesting discussion yesterday with a friend about Joffrey's death, and how (while I was very happy to see it finally happen) I felt like he got off kind of light. Sure, they portrayed a reasonably painful death, but still- he went from on top of the world to death in less than a minute. I was hoping to see Joffrey fall from grace and hit every branch along the way to the ground, constantly forced to look up and see what he lost being torn slowly from him... Meanwhile, Theon Greyjoy is meeting one of the most atrocious and horrific series of consequences that I've ever seen any character in any story ever endure; and while Theon certainly deserved to die (and probably painfully) for his antics in Winterfell, I can't help but feel he's more than paid his penance. There's no way that justice should let Joffrey get off lighter than Theon did. What I think could've made an interesting hypothetical situation, would've been to devise a scenario where Joffrey met the kind of fate that Theon has. Rather than the dumb, overly ambitious, clumsy Greyjoy meeting this awful end; let Joffrey meet those screws, let Joffrey suffer physically, psychologically, and torturously to an unending degree. Then the viewer would find themselves in an interesting social experiment: how long can you watch the heinous downfall of Joffrey before you begin to sympathize with him? How much can the viewer take before they re-humanize that asshole? It would be like the reverse of the "Breaking Bad experiment", where the viewer is initially led to sympathize with Walter White, and travels with him as he descends into real evil- seeing how long you can watch as a viewer before you turn against this man...1 point

Who are your favorite characters? At this point, I guess my list includes Tyrion and Bron . . .maybe Arya as well. Margery is increasingly intriguing to me, though still not sure what to make of her. She may be as utterly ruthless at bottom as anybody on the show, carefully hidden under her charming/sweet/tenderness act. I like Jaime Lannister and the Hound much more now than as they were portrayed earlier in the series, and Daenarys less.1 point

I'd just like to say it's never ever too late to turn relationships around. If counselors aren't "working" go to a new one. Really. <31 point

Geez... I knew I wasn't the only one to misread it ;) Wishful thinking on my part.... :) I still misread it. I think my brain is damaged I am pretty sure it just means you are normal.... That's my conclusion too  I bet they're hoping a lot of people misread it. That would drive up sales big time. :LMAO:1 point

After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support. In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music. http://www.acdc.com/us/news/message-acdc1 point

Not even "just a documentary," it's just a documentary compiled from archival sources, with no participating from the guys in Rush, and no actual Rush music in it! Buyer beware. How can you do a documentary about a band without using their music? I wonder if it's a copyright thing? And if so, the fact they couldn't get copyright for a documentary is saying something :( The fact that they didn't get the music rights doesn't necessarily indicate anything about the quality of the documentary itself. Music rights are expensive, and these quasi-documentaries are done on the cheap. Amazon Prime is loaded with them. At the same time, of course, documentaries done on the cheap compiled from archival sources and interviews with whoever has an opinion don't tend to be high-quality productions in any case. I MIGHT watch it for free, but certainly won't pay for it1 point

Shouldn't a Buddy Holly cover be mixed in there somewhere? Beat me to it lol. 'Not fade away' Well that would be the perfect choice since the Alex interview (recently posted by Jag2112) revealed that they actually recorded a version of 'Not Fade Away at some point when making the debut album! BTW, I was only joking, as I would NEVER have actually expected that RUSH would cover a Buddy Holly song. Actually it's not much of a "reveal", they did record it on the B side of a single. It was on YouTube at one time, probably still is. Geds voice is SOO high in it I remember lol1 point

Well, one good thing and one bad thing. The bad thing is that I didn't get the job down in Florida... The GOOD thing is that, in just a little under two years, I'll be in Hawaii getting my degree in Journalism! :D1 point

GUP's one of their best albums. excellent lyrics, geddy's vocals are great, the production and the metallic, cold sound that CT talked about all help to contribute to the overall feel of the record, and it has some of their best music. people bitch about synths and how it's an "80s-sounding" album (which makes a lot of sense considering its release date, huh), but good music is good music. don't have to be shrieking about hobbits and black holes all the time to sound good.1 point

I almost started my own thread, but I thought why be a self-important asshole and stray from this great thread. I have been a metal fan for 31 years and JUST FULLY DISCOVERED/REDISCOVERD JUDAS PRIEST LAST MONTH. I know, WTF? Surfing on Amazon, I found their 2011 Complete Albums Collection brand new for $65! I jumped all over that shit, since I was always considering filling out my Priest CD collection. Before, all I had was Metal Works 73-93, Stained Glass and Angel Of Retribution. As a teen I had SFV, SG, and Turbo on cassette. I never worshipped Priest like I did Maiden or Sabbath, but always held them in high regard and considered them one of the greatest, most influential regardless. Now it is totally obvious to me they are easily in the Top Three with the aforementioned (Metallica being a somewhat distant fourth). Halford is arguably the greatest metal/hard rock singer of all time. His control, variations, range, and vocal charisma is jaw dropping. Part of me is saddened I didn't truly discover them earlier, but its even better I now have this huge catalog to drool over when, quite honestly, no music today stands up to the classic stuff. My top 3 albums from what I can tell so far is Defenders, Hellbent, and British Steel, followed by Screaming, Stained and Painkiller. Turbo is surprisingly killer—it came out just as I was discovering thrash metal, so I wasn't too hip on it upon its release, but now I love it. I totally spurned Ram It Down when it released, maybe rightfully so, but it has some good stuff on it too. I was so turned off by RID I didn't even give Painkiller a chance back in '90. I was like, 'good for them, but Slayer, Metallica, etc., is where it's at'. FORGIVE ME METAL GODS, NOW I SEE THE LIGHT!!! JUDAS PRIEST f***ing RULES!!! I HAVE MUSIC TO BE TOTALLY STOKED ABOUT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS!!!1 point

Hey guys and gals, as news of a 2015 tour heats up, please keep in mind that we have the On The Lighted Stage forum for all of your tour thread needs. This here Rush forum is for album-related goodness. I shall now move some tour threads into said tour forum, and then feed the people who posted them in here to my mountain lion. You don't have a mountain lion like I do, do you...1 point
