Permanent Waves. (I have answered that question several times since joining the forum and I was tempted to say Power Windows or something to see if anyone was paying attention. :P )2 points

Not so fast: http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2013/01/15/life_in_a_meteorite_claims_by_n_c_wickramasinghe_of_diatoms_in_a_meteorite.html Seems that Mr. Wickramasinghe is such a proponent of cometary panspermia (giggle) that he sees it everywhere...even in earth rocks with earth water on them and earth species of diatoms.2 points

MP. The songs are so strong. Side One is Rush's sound to me. That's the sound that I fell in love with and that album will still force me to crank up the radio, play air-drums, air-keys, air-bass and air-guitar and air-pedals all while singing. PeW is great, but the songs on MP are stronger. Side Two is mesmerizing. The sounds on the city streets, the witch hunt, Geddy's tone on VS. One of my personal favourite Rush lyrics (Green and grey washes in a whispy white veil and then Geddy's delivery of mist in the streets of Westminster - it makes me all goose pimply). Hands down, MP. For me.2 points

This is such a warm and wonderful place and I feel very happy when I think of my TRF family. In ways, you are closer to me than some "real" family and you are certainly the only people in my life who *love* Rush as much as I do. That is a true blessing and I am grateful for you and I am grateful for this place. Thank you so much, all of you, for the kind words and kind thoughts. TRF2 points

Clock Orange was removed from theaters by request of the director Stanley Kubrick after recieving so much backlash, copycat crimes...really bothered him until the day he died I didn't know about copy cat crimes. That really sucks :/ That's the danger of glorifying violence. That's right! Every time I watch a violent film I go out and mug a few grandmas! :eyeroll:1 point

Song of Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson Mine are the night and morning, The pits of air, the gulf of space, The sportive sun, the gibbous moon, The innumerable days. I hid in the solar glory, I am dumb in the pealing song, I rest on the pitch of the torrent, In slumber I am strong. No numbers have counted my tallies, No tribes my house can fill, I sit by the shining Fount of Life, And pour the deluge still; And ever by delicate powers Gathering along the centuries From race on race the rarest flowers, My wreath shall nothing miss. And many a thousand summers My apples ripened well, And light from meliorating stars With firmer glory fell. I wrote the past in characters Of rock and fire the scroll, The building in the coral sea, The planting of the coal. And thefts from satellites and rings And broken stars I drew, And out of spent and aged things I formed the world anew; What time the gods kept carnival, Tricked out in star and flower, And in cramp elf and saurian forms They swathed their too much power. Time and Thought were my surveyors, They laid their courses well, They boiled the sea, and baked the layers Or granite, marl, and shell. But he, the man-child glorious,-- Where tarries he the while? The rainbow shines his harbinger, The sunset gleams his smile. My boreal lights leap upward, Forthright my planets roll, And still the man-child is not born, The summit of the whole. Must time and tide forever run? Will never my winds go sleep in the west? Will never my wheels which whirl the sun And satellites have rest? Too much of donning and doffing, Too slow the rainbow fades, I weary of my robe of snow, My leaves and my cascades; I tire of globes and races, Too long the game is played; What without him is summer's pomp, Or winter's frozen shade? I travail in pain for him, My creatures travail and wait; His couriers come by squadrons, He comes not to the gate. Twice I have moulded an image, And thrice outstretched my hand, Made one of day, and one of night, And one of the salt sea-sand. One in a Judaean manger, And one by Avon stream, One over against the mouths of Nile, And one in the Academe. I moulded kings and saviours, And bards o'er kings to rule;-- But fell the starry influence short, The cup was never full. Yet whirl the glowing wheels once more, And mix the bowl again; Seethe, fate! the ancient elements, Heat, cold, wet, dry, and peace, and pain. Let war and trade and creeds and song Blend, ripen race on race, The sunburnt world a man shall breed Of all the zones, and countless days. No ray is dimmed, no atom worn, My oldest force is good as new, And the fresh rose on yonder thorn Gives back the bending heavens in dew.1 point

For a long, long time, I would have said MP. But, over 30 years down the line (how the eff did that happen?!), I've changed my opinion for the reason that Pew bridges the gap between early rush and rush stage 2. It's a perfect blend of old and modern rush and the balance of where they came from and where they were going was just sublime. And as a transitional album it is so much better than signals and without it, MP would a) never have existed and B) been so good. I can't think of 3 albums by any other band I like as consistent and as good as hemispheres, Pew and MP. There isn't a wasted second on permanent waves. One of the great rock records and just perfect for the time when it was released.1 point

You absolutely should, it adds a great deal. I just got him the basic one for Christmas. If he gets hooked to it, I think I can save the expansion pack for Father's Day or something. I've come to the conclusion Gods and Kings really is important. It is how you can play some of the interesting scenarios. I found a copy of G&K on Amazon I can download (only $15) but I've been reluctant. This game is highly addictive and once I start playing it is usually many hours before I stop. In the base game, I really like the Rise of the Mongol scenario and it is a great tutorial on how the new strategies (like no stacked units on a tile) work. My only real, and long standing, complaint with the game is the treatment of technology since it is serialized and not multi-path and closer to the way technology actually develops. A minor complaint, really. I love this game. :) I bought G&K yesterday. It is a better game with it, imo. There's a mod in the steam worshop that fixes the vanilla version. I really enjoy it. :)1 point
