    • 10 - Absolute Perfection all the way through - a masterpiece - their best or right up there with their very best.
      27
    • 9 - Excellent, not one weak track and nearly perfect. One of their very best.
      74
    • 8 - Great album - one or two weaker tracks - a must-own.
      81
    • 7 - Very good album - mostly very strong - well worth owning.
      28
    • 6 - Not their best, but still pretty darn good.
      9
    • 5 - I don't listen too often, but it's a good album.
      1
    • 4 - It's not bad, a good bit of weaker material - pretty good.
      2
    • 3 - It's ok - I'll listen and enjoy some tracks occasionally, but not that great overall.
      5
    • 2 - There are a couple of good or great tracks, but overall fairly weak.
      4
    • 1 - Barely listenable - for completists only, only one or two even halfway-decent tracks. A real dud.
      1
    • 0 - Just really bad, no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Garbage.

Well, I can't stop listening to it. I gave it a 9 - not a weak track on it, IMO.

And who gives a sh1t what GR thinks, anyway? He only hangs around on TRF so he can insult people to make himself feel better. I think we should all just..

WISH HIM WELL yes.gif

Hate to be a naysayer but I gave it 5 or 6 tries since it came out and I just don't care for it as a whole and probably never will

I like the story, I like the artwork, I like that they went away from the boring preachy folk-rock of Snakes, but.....

The songs are too long and too heavy/dense (something that's bothered me since VT), Geddy's voice sounds like total crap when he tries to sing high, there's little to no song structure, the melodies are weak to non-existant. And this is the third straight album of yet more cynical "the world can be a bad place and religion is scary" themed lyrics. Makes me look fondly back at the much more optimistic HYF era, mullets and suit jackets included biggrin.gif

Basically, listening to any of the last three Rush albums start to finish is just a chore that I can't be bothered with. I'll cherry pick a song here and there, but that's about all I can handle without getting a headache or bored.

I gave it an 8. It took me a few listens through to really like it and truly love some of the songs. I ranks it as one of their top albums.

No problem. And thanks for presenting your dislike of CA without being a complete dick about it. Seriously.....I respect your opinion and the way you expressed it.

These are stellar poll results. No way SnA would even get close to these numbers.

Oh I wouldn't say that.

There are no melodies.

The songs are too loud and heavy

That guys voice sounds terrible.

The lyrics make me sad.

I miss the 80's.

Actually, the numbers illustrate just how much better CA is being received than S&A.

S&A:

10 [ 5 ] [3.38%]

9 [ 16 ] [10.81%]

8 [ 41 ] [27.70%]

7 [ 37 ] [25.00%]

6 [ 16 ] [10.81%]

5 [ 13 ] [8.78%]

4 [ 8 ] [5.41%]

3 [ 2 ] [1.35%]

2 [ 5 ] [3.38%]

1 [ 5 ] [3.38%]

S&A 8/9/10 ratings: 41.89%

CA:

10 [ 22 ] [11.34%]

9 [ 60 ] [30.93%]

8 [ 68 ] [35.05%]

7 [ 23 ] [11.86%]

6 [ 8 ] [4.12%]

5 [ 0 ] [0.00%]

4 [ 1 ] [0.52%]

3 [ 5 ] [2.58%]

2 [ 3 ] [1.55%]

1 [ 1 ] [0.52%]

0 [ 3 ] [1.55%]

CA 8/9/10 ratings: 77.32%

Sure there's some honeymoon effect (halo effect) now with CA. But I really do think CA will hold up much better over time than S&A.

Wow...talk about picking your data points. eyesre4.gif

Overall,

CA = 8.10/10

S&A = 7.36/10

I consider these pretty close. And as was mentioned quite a few times, maybe we will see what 5 years brings. S&A has already settled. CA is still in the woohoo mode.

I know when I hear something, and it immediately makes me rock out, it's a keeper.

The only songs on the album that required more than one listen was CA, Carnies, Seven Cities, and Wish them Well.

Now the only song I generally don't listen to is BU2B2.

I don't need 1 year to decide if something great or not. Clockwork Angels is freaking great.

Dividing percentages and detailed data points mean a LOT more than lumping everything into means, which are heavily influenced by outliers.

Regardless, time will tell, and I have a feeling CA will stand the test of time much more than SA.

BTW, it sounds like you are hoping that CA will not stand the test of time and will be dragged down like SA was.

Oh, it will fall. It would be foolish to not think so. The CAid still has people in a euphoria of Rush's best work. I have already started getting not so pumped about it. Maybe I need another glass.
