  1. Interesting... This guy is "Harrison" (no first name): http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120107133112/memoryalpha/en/images/thumb/8/88/Harrison%2C_Balance_of_Terror.jpg/180px-Harrison%2C_Balance_of_Terror.jpg http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Harrison "Harrison was played by regular TOS extra Ron Veto. Harrison's name was mentioned in "Space Seed" as the camera panned over Ron Veto." Maybe "John Harrison" is a red herring from JJ, after all the Khan/Space Seed speculation.
  2. My God, why bump this turd-fest? On a more productive note :eyeroll: , I've recently found that CA sounds much better and clearer if you simply lower your bass and volume settings a couple clicks down from your normal settings. CA is unfortunately mastered too hot and with way too much bass, IMO, but these simple adjustments make it sound much clearer to my ears. But songwise, I just don't get how Rush fans could hate tunes like The Anarchist, CA, Seven Cities, The Garden, etc. Seriously?
  3. Well, they played it in Phoenix which was also filmed for the DVD. From what I remember, it sounded great. :) So hopefully they'll combine the best of the two shows for the DVD.
  4. Glad to see that the haters are still stuck around 13%. :eyeroll: I would never have guessed that some fans so passionately hate the Synth era.
  5. Thanks for the pics! I was there in row 11 on Alex's side. :haz: The lighting for this tour was truly mind-blowing. I kept waiting for the Close Encounters mothership to come in for a landing. :P
  6. I've been avoiding this sub-forum for months because I wanted to see this tour spoiler-free. I just saw the Phoenix show last night, and this was certainly one of my favorite setlists in years! I love 70s Rush as much as anyone, and my favorite overall Rush era is probably 75-81. But my first Rush show was Power Windows, so I have a huge affinity for the synth era. And I really loved Clockwork Angels and was looking forward to hopefully hearing most of it live. So for me it couldn't get much better: synth era staples and deep tracks, a nearly complete new album presentation with strings, plus a few of the long-time staples. :haz: The synth standouts for me were the Power Windows tunes (especially Middletown Dreams!) and The Analog Kid. But the standout of the night was certainly the triumverate of Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist, and Carnies. :haz: I knew these would be great live, but the energy of these tunes and the added power of the strings was mind-blowing. It was one of those big moments that I haven't had in a concert since maybe seeing Pink Floyd back in the day. After the fact, my only minor dissapointment is not seeing Seven Cities and The Body Electric. But overall this was a remarkable Rush show, in terms of the performance, energy, setlist, visuals, lighting, pyrotechnics, and sound. So PLEASE see this tour if you can. It's sad that some few are boycotting (apparently) because they still didn't get their pet favorite songs (Jacob's Ladder, Lakeside Park, etc.).
  7. A couple weeks later, and I'm still really digging Power to Believe. :haz: It's even cooler for me after realizing that most of the trippy "synth" stuff on the album is probably coming from Fripp and his rack of effects: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giKVNoTDvOE EDIT: Link not working? YouTube KC Live In Japan (TPTB tour). I also can't stop listening to Red and the rest of the Wetton-era, studio and live.
  8. QUOTE (Steevo @ Oct 17 2012, 02:10 AM) And I need to get a huge dose of KC soon, a lot of fresh listens as well. Excellent thread for recommendations! Yeah, I was way overdue for a KC binge. I was always more of a Yes and Genesis guy, so I'm making up for lost time with KC. Hate to admit it, but I had never even heard Red until recently. And Starless may be one of the best prog songs ever, in the ballpark with Close To The Egde or Supper's Ready. Speaking of which, what a great video. Best Bruford ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C8v99kV1jY
  9. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Oct 16 2012, 09:42 PM) Which would you recommend next? For the later stuff? For me, Power to Believe is head-and-shoulders above THRAK and ConstruKction, but these are both still pretty good. THRAK has Bruford and the double trio lineup, but ConstruKction has some good tunes, especially Larks' Tounges Part 4.
  10. Wow, I listened to Power to Believe a couple times this weekend and am pretty blown away! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/45/The_Power_to_Believe.jpg/220px-The_Power_to_Believe.jpg I really like combination of the heavy riffing with the atmospheric keyboard (guitar synth?) stuff. I also like the vocoder effect, as it serves to disguise Adrian's vocals a bit. I really do think Power is one of their stronger efforts from any period. If I were to rank the albums from favorite to least, I think it would currently look something like this: Red Larks' Tongues in Aspic Starless and Bible Black In the Court of the Crimson King The Power to Believe Lizard In the Wake of Poseidon Beat Discipline THRAK The ConstruKction of Light Three of a Perfect Pair Islands Overall, it's been a blast rediscovering KC, especially the Wetton/Bruford/Cross era.
  11. QUOTE (Akron162 @ Oct 10 2012, 05:27 PM) God, how i hate him.
  12. I'm a prog rock guy and not usually into indie rock, but I just saw these guys on Austin City Limits and was pretty impressed. I guess I'm a sucker for any band that still uses synths with the old LFO sweep sound. Plus you've got to love their energy and the fun they're obviously having. http://video.pbs.org/video/2186238785
  13. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Oct 2 2012, 10:02 PM) I really can't picture Yes doing this. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cruise-to-th...490557914301403 http://www.cruisetotheedge.com/signup.html I wonder who the other bands will be. Nektar is rumored to be playing as well. Okay, now THAT'S embarrassing. Are they really doing this? Will they be able to stock enough food on board for Chris?

It's not a bad record. Unfortunately for the album, there are so many fantastic albums by this band. Currently, I can not get enough of Lizard. Lizard Does a more complex and sophisticated prog album exist? Just listened to Lizard for the first time in quite a while. What a weird but cool album. It sounds to me a bit like aliens from Neptune trying to combine early Genesis with Gil Evans/Miles Davis. It's very interesting and trippy, but I don't think I'll be coming back to it very often. Up next is Islands, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair. After this, The Great Deceiver Vols 1 & 2. Really looking forward to these, as I think the Wetton/Bruford era is by far KC's best. For the best of Wetton/Bruford live, just get "The Night Watch". It's got pretty much everything Great Deceiver has, but it's just one show and the performance is amazing! I've got that one as well. I need everything from this lineup, including USA if I can track it down. Just finished Beat and Perfect Pair and they were okay but pretty meh... But THRAK is pretty sweet! I think I may prefer it to some of their earlier stuff. I like the heavier sound and Belew's vocals seem a lot better here. Now I guess I will need to pick up Construkction and Power to Believe.
  16. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Sep 11 2012, 08:45 PM)Sounds like its finally happening! Too bad they couldn't get Bruford. http://somethingelsereviews.com/2012/09/08...d-trevor-rabin/ Great news if it really happens, but take this with a big grain of salt. I'll definitely support them if they tour. I passed on Yes in my town recently, a first for me. Even though I like Fly From Here, the second tribute band singer replacement was the last straw for me.
  17. Director: Peter Jackson Owen Hardy: Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) Love interest: Kate Beckinsale The Watchmaker: Anthony Hopkins The Anarchist: Viggo Mortenson
  18. QUOTE (tullfan @ Sep 5 2012, 10:00 PM) Sorry guys, but Clockwork Angles is not a good Rush album, Geoff Downes is correct, Fly from Here is a way better album than Clockwork Angles. Yes still delivers the prog while Rush keeps disappointing their prog fans. You're trying too hard. Let people get to know you a bit before they start to dislike you.
  19. I want to see some giant inflatable Clockwork Angels up above the stage. Like the inflatable rabbits on the Presto tour.
  20. Yeah, two VERY good songs and too close to call for me at this point. CA has the overall epic feel and great lyrics. But it has the worst mix on the album, very muddy especially in the chorus. I also would have preferred some kind of weird 5/8 or 7/8 middle section instead of the bluesy breakdown. The Anarchist has Alex's best riff since Signals, that Police-ish riff that would be right at home on Signals or even Moving Pictures. The song also has great construction, with a lot of great parts arranged very effectively. In the end , I'll probably go with CA. I'm really looking forward to hearing a live version of this, which I think will clear up the mud from the studio version.
  21. QUOTE (GotRush @ Sep 6 2012, 04:53 PM)QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Sep 4 2012, 08:04 PM) By the way, why is your TRF name "GotRush" instead of "GotRush?" if this is so important to you? I fixed it with a "?" sticker, but keeps moving out of position If only the license plate was also not a big deal, things would be so much less complicated. There's surely a record of the last time you were pulled over for this. Next time you're pulled over, the cop will read this previous account and not be thrilled with another incident. Seems like you're practically daring them to arrest you and throw the book at you. Oh well...
  22. QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Sep 5 2012, 12:28 AM)http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z437/drbirdsong/FlyFromHere.jpg I listened to Fly From Here for the first time in several months. Lots of great melody and for a late period album by an older band it is really good. It grows better with time and repeated listening. Great album! But it would have been even better with Jon.
