sullysue Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I'm only into the second chapter of "We Were the Mulvaneys," by Joyce Carol Oates. Amazing author. Intricate imagery. I can't wait to find out what happened to this family.
GhostGirl Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Just picked up Predator by Patricia Cornwell at the library. So far, pretty good. Typical Kay Scarpetta.

I've got two Cornwell books I bought at garage sales, but haven't read either. "Body Farm" and "From Potter's Field." Any good?

If you haven't read any Cornwell, you might not know that most of her books are written in a series, with Kay Scarpetta, medical examiner, as the main character. I think each book stands alone fairly well, but you do get a much better overall sense of character development if you read them in order if possible. There's a timeline here: http://www.patriciacornwell.com/work.html.
1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 About a third of the way through Cold Service by Robert B. Parker. If you're a fan of his Spenser series and you like the Hawk character, this one's for you.

GhostGirl Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I'm re-re-reading the Mitford books by Jan Karon. I love them because they remind me of growing up in a small town. They may be a bit whimsical and "Mayberry-ish," but sometimes I need a good dose of that kind of idealism. I wish the world worked as well as Mitford's world works... If you've read these, perhaps you know what I mean. "Perhaps almost anyone could love, he thought; it was the loving back that seemed to count for everything." My children know this pretty well.

GeddyRulz Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Reading "What Liberal Media?" by Eric Alterman; kinda completes my "liberal thought" trifecta, following "Wake up, You're Liberal" by Ted Rall, and "Big Lies" by Joe Conason. (Sorry, this is just what I'm reading now. Don't want this thread to end up in the political forum.)
spirit of radio Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Leadership secrets of the Rogue Warrior by Richard Marcinko....a little extreme but effective.

He now is the closer for the Phillies, and made the All Star team this season.......
