madra sneachta
QUOTE (alphseeker @ May 20 2006, 05:06 PM) I'm about 200 pages into "Da Vinci code" and i have to say "Angels and Demons" blows it away. Angels and Demons was almost seamless the way it moved you from one suspenseful moment to another. Da Vicni Code makes me feel like i'm reading a dozen autobiographies at a time. Not only does Dan Brown flash back to every single characters past, he devotes almost entire chapters to the flash backs, thus making the word FLASH obsolete. I can and have put Da Vinci code down many times, simply because this book does not flow like ANGELS AND DEMONS. I heartily agree - Angels and Demons is far and away Brown's best book. (Apparently there are more than a few similarities between it and the plot of Mission Impossible 3, but I've not seen the film yet so I can't comment)
GeddyRulz
I'm over 200 pages into "DaVinci" now, and I'm totally hooked. I think it's fast-paced and chockful of fascinating clues and codes. It's awesome; just brilliant. I guess I'll give "Angels and Demons" a try after this.
Jack Aubrey
All 'Lost' fans should remember the scene two episodes ago where Sawyer was reading a manuscript and Jack grabbed the last few pages and tossed them on a fire. Now you can read that manuscript in the form of the novel 'Bad Twin'. It supposedly contains some clues and the author's name, Gary Troup, is an anagram for 'Purgatory'. Also, the fictitious Hanso Foundation (the organization responsible for all of the strange bunkers on the island) has published a newspaper ad urging readers not to believe what they read in the book. I think I'll pick up a copy myself. Namaste. Edited May 21, 2006 by Jack Aubrey

GeddyRulz
I read "DaVinci Code" last weekend. Now I'm reading the 'prequel' (of sorts), Angels and Demons. Many have told me this one's even better than "DaVinci." I'm about 1/4 of the way through; not bad so far. All the copies of the book (about a dozen) were checked-out of the library, with future holds against them. But I managed to discover a large print copy still on the shelves. So I'm reading a large print copy of the book, like a half-blind old man!
Ghost of a Rider
"Cell" by Stephen King. I was ready to be disappointed as his last few books have been tame in comparison to his older stuff. But I gotta say this one's definitely got my attention. I'm also reading "Book of Life" about the evolution of life on the planet.

GeddyRulz
I've long thought of reading the first - or maybe all - of the "Clan of the Cave Bear" series. I may read the first book after I finish my current read. Does "Clan of the Cave Bear" get any recommendations here? Or should I pass on it? I'm on page 405, but the page number is misleading; I'm reading the Large Print edition, so there's more pages! They just went to the Pantheon and learned it was the wrong tomb for Raphael. Now they're checking out the right one - his earlier burial place, in the 1600s. (Trying to catch the Hassassin before the first Cardinal's murder.) LakesideMaiden
**WHAT ARE YOU WRITING, A NOVEL??? ** I primarily read Fantasy/Science Fiction books. Generally I read Forgotten Realms, but having read through all the books I own now at least 3 times, I've taken Der Trommlers suggestion of reading his Dragonlance books and have gone through quite a few of the since about the middle of April. Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman Chronicles: Dragons of Autumn Twilight Dragons of Winter Night Dragons of Spring Dawning Legends: Time of the Twins War of the Twins Test of the Twins Various Authors: Tales: The Magic of Krynn Kender, Gully Dwarves, and Gnomes Love and War Heroes: Stormblade Weasel's Luck Kaz the Minotaur The Gates of Thorbardin Galen Beknighted - working on this one now There are other Dragonlance books that Der Trommler doesn't have, but eventually we'll get them The other series I read most often (and over and over and over) is Forgotten Realms. For any fantasy reader, these are truly some of the best books to read. I'll list the ones that I own - if I can find them all. Various Authors: Sembia: The Halls of Stormweather Shadow's Witness The Shattered Mask Black Wolf Heirs of Prophecy Sands of the Soul Lord of Stormweather The Avatar Series Shadowdale Tantras Waterdeep Prince of Lies Crucible: The Trial of Cyric the Mad The Cormyr Saga Cormyr: A Novel Beyond the High Road Death of the Dragon Return of the Archwizards The Summoning The Siege The Sorcerer Realms of Shadow Lost Empires The Lost Library of Cormanthyr Faces of Deception Star of Cursrah The Nether Scroll The Short Stories Realms of Infamy Realms of Valor Realms of Magic Realms of the Underdark Realms of Mystery Realms of Shadow R.A. Salvatore - (One of my favorite Forgotten Realms authors) The Dark Elf Trilogy) Homeland Exile Sojourn Icewind Dale Trilogy The Crystal Shard Streams of Silver The Halfling's Gem Legacy of the Drow The Legacy Starless Night Siege of Darkness Passage to Dawn Paths of Darkness The Silent Blade The Spine of the World Servent of the Shard Sea of Swords The Hunter's Blades Trilogy - only have one of those so far The Thousand Orcs War of the Spider Queen (there are 6 books in this series, I have only 2 so far) Dissolution Insurrection The Cleric Quintet Canticle In Sylvan Shadows Night Masks The Fallen Fortress The Chaos Curse Ed Greenwood - (another of my favorite authors and the creator of Forgotten Realms) The Elminster Series Elminster: The Making of a Mage Elminster in Myth Drannor The Temptation of Elminster Elminster in Hell Shandril's Saga Spellfire Crown of Fire Hand of Fire Shadow of the Avatar Trilogy Shadows of Doom Cloak of Shadows All Shadows Fled Seven Sisters Stormlight Silverfall: Stories of the Seven Sisters Elaine Cunningham - my all time favorite Forgotten Realms author Songs & Swords Elfshadow Elfsong Silver Shadows Thornhold The Dream Spheres Starlight & Shadows Daughter of the Drow Tangled Webs Windwalker Counselors & Kings The Magehound The Floodgate The Wizardwar Evermeet Evermeet: A Novel Then comes Peirs Anthony and his Xanth series - these are the funniest books you could imagine reading and I highly recommend them to ANYONE who loves Fantasy books. If you can't tell by the titles, they are primarily composed of puns. Lots of them. His writers send in ideas for puns, he uses them, and then credits them in the back of the book A Spell for Chameleon The Source of Magic Castle Roogna Centaur Aisle Ogre, Ogre Night Mare Dragon on a Pedestal Crewel Lye Golem in the Gears Vale of the Vole Heaven Cent Man from Mundania Isle of View Question Quest The Color of Her Panties Demons Don't Dream - This was lent to RoR and lost in the house fire Harpy Thyme Geis of the Gargoyle Roc and a Hard Place Yon Ill Wind Faun & Games Zombie Lover Xone of Contention Swell Foop Up in a Heaval Cube Route Apparently I'm missing a couple of these as well, that I wouldn't have known about had I not started to list all of my books!! Damn!!! The Dastard - this one falls between Xone of Contention and Swell Foop Currant Events Pet Peeve Stork Naked Air Apparent So thats pretty much all the books I own and have read....Please, take a moment to read the list over, and try one of the series out. They are fantastic!! Edited June 15, 2006 by LakesideMaiden
