  1. The HDTracks version of this is seriously worth it. Really, really, really. There's space between instruments, clarity, and best of all, that experiment they did with Alex multi-layering, you can finally HEAR most of it. And it sounds beautiful.
  2. QUOTE (CygnusGal @ Sep 29 2012, 07:14 PM) Hopefully, some help from my fellow Rush fans. I have enjoyed the few songs that I've heard as identified as being Muse. Trying to keep my ear current, you know? (We need a female emoticon for ---> . I don't have a beard.) As a Muse novice, what would be my best bet for a first album? I just got the one with Uprising (that song grew on me when I heard it), I wasn't sure about the one with Super Massive Blackhole. Is the catalog worth buying or should I just focus on one or two albums and the rest are meh? Thanks for your pointers. If you've already got The Resistance & Black Holes and Revelations the new one, The 2nd Law, might be a logical place to go. If you weren't too keen on BHaR going back to Absolution, Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz might not be best yet. Maybe check out a few songs from them? As albums they're a little different.
  3. Here are mine, vaguely in order: From Russia With Love On Her Majesty's Secret Service GoldenEye Casino Royale Goldfinger Licence To Kill The World Is Not Enough Dr. No Live and Let Die For Your Eyes Only
  4. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Sep 26 2012, 08:38 AM) QUOTE (Mandalorian Hunter @ Sep 26 2012, 12:09 AM) I'd much prefer twitchier electronics than a full blown 80's electro sound, but honestly, I'm really liking this. I was worried we were going to get a BHaR/TR re-hash every three years for the next 10-20 years so this is nice and refreshing. Looking forward to getting these tracks on a running playlist with older tracks and seeing how they go together! Dublin in November. Pre-sale tomorrow morning! I'm getting a seat this time. Last time I saw them, I was on the ground floor, surrounding by young people. I felt so old, so now, I'm going to act old and get a seat. Bring a flask of tea, maybe a blanket for my knees. It's cold in November. I've only ever seen them seated, best way to be. I was at the front for the BHaR tour, completely unprepared having never been to a gig like that before, and they started with Knights then Hysteria! At the 02 I got pre-sale seats (mistakenly) but they turned out to be a godsend, and for Wembley me and a mate were right at the back with a panoramic view.

  6. QUOTE (vital signz @ Jun 26 2012, 01:40 AM) Hmmm. 80%. That's a B minus. Almost a C. So you feel it's just a tiny bit above average? Mag rating systems are completely different. Once you're hitting the 80's, it's getting good. For context, our rating system is 60%'s - Decent, 70%'s - Good, 80%'s - Great/Top 15 Album of the Year material, 90%'s Excellent/Top 5 ALbum of the Year + In a decade list, 100% - Perfect
  7. Hey all! Here are a few words I put to (virtual) paper about CA. If you don't like the album, you probably don't want to have a peek! Enjoy: http://beatsperminute.com/reviews/album-re...ockwork-angels/
  8. So glad I recently bought some expensive ish headphones. Sounds great on the cans!
  9. People are thinking the whole album's going to be dubstep based on a 30 second sample?! Reality check: There's 1:30 of some thrilling strings on the trailer. That's just as much an indication as the dub part. Honestly, those 30 seconds sound exciting. Take out the robot and it just sounds like an outro riff the band would play live, and they do that at least five times a concert. The Resistance, as good as it was, sounded a little tired and stale as if Muse were going through the motions. Some fresh sounding riffs are going to be good. It's rock, with a little twist. Sounds a lot like a band we all know and love.
  10. QUOTE (Undemanding Contact @ May 29 2011, 01:27 AM) QUOTE ... If you really want to stand up for your rights, and I mean actually stand up and not write a post on a forum... Hang on, there is a case for kicking up a stink about an important issue on a forum such as this. Points: a. As pointed out, a given forum exists in in order to facilitate free-voice on any issue that pertains to the focus of that forum. b. As others state reasonably on other threads in this forum: if you do not like the line a given thread takes, or the way it is developing, you can choose to ignore that thread. c. People who have the ear of Al, Ged and Neil, and who scan this forum in order to get a slice of what is happening at the grass-roots, will have caught the stink people have raised here, and that can be (in my view) only for the good. Going on my understanding of, say, Ged, I can imagine a conversation like this: Guy who has Ged's ear: 'Ged, the O2 on the 25th: from what I'm reading on the Internet, the sound for the punters up in the higher levels sucked. It seems that the problem is partly architectural, but I get the feeling that the sound engineers managed to cock it up despite that.' Ged: 'Shit!' Surely though, working on the assumption that one of Rush's inner circle MIGHT make their way here, to this particular thread, is time-wasting when there are avenues that WILL make their way to Rush/Management. Yes, the forum exists for the voicing of opinions related to the band and their shows, but the poster has made clear that he a/ wants something done about it and b/ wants more sympathy from other members. On the second point, if those members don't want to play ball surely they are within their 'rights' to be able to produce a counterpoint to a debate and continue engaging in said debate without being given the asisine comeback of 'If you don't like the content, don't look/post in here' (where would be the fun in a forum if topics only contained one side of everything). I've tried to make sure whatever I've written hasn't been the childish name-calling and mud-slinging that was seen earlier in the thread, adding something that furthers the discussion and even though negative gives marshy pointers where he can go next - contribution, rather than feeling like I have to ignore it because a said few want to beat their drum and not let anyone else play. That is the whole point of a forum after all, isn't it? Everyone being able to contribute in their own way. What I'm trying to say is, if the poster wants to get something done, while he could use this forum to do it there are different avenues that will probably get better results. It depends whether marshy is as proactive as he says he is, or whether he's pandering for the crowds attention.
  11. QUOTE (marshy64 @ May 28 2011, 10:29 PM) QUOTE (ghengis @ May 28 2011, 05:09 PM) All I can say is that for the first time in my and my mates lives we walked out of a gig early because the sound was so bad - at least in 418 & later in 415. We even had trouble identifying tracks that we'd known and loved almost all our adult lives (30 odd years in our cases) We would have left at the interval but were advised by a member of staff to raise the issue with O2 Customer Services, which we did. They advised that they were aware of problems with the sound and would be trying to sort it for the second half and that if we could try and change seats we should - hence the reference to 415 above. The sound improved quite a lot initially after the interval but did seem to get worse again after a couple of tracks and we then decided that enough was enough and we left - bitterly disappointed. For those that say we should have got better tickets, shame on you. We paid our money same as everyone else and should have been able to get a better sound quality than that comparable to having your head stuck in the boot of some deaf drum and bass fan who's just bought themselves a new stereo. For those that say that I've only joined the forum to complain - then yes, you're correct. Isn't that the reason to have a forum, to voice opinion. If you don't like it then tough. If everyone had done their job properly I'd have no cause for complaint but someone somewhere didn't do what they were paid for. We've complained to the O2 who say that there is little they can do and we are now taking it up with the promoter - "kennedy street enterprises". kse@kennedystreet.com Hello mate. At last somebody else on here standing up for their rights and like me seeming less than impressed with the lack of support from the mainly brainwashed regulars on here. I understand their worship, but not to the point that as soon as you raise issue with anything they seem to want to lay down their lives for the cause. Bonkers lot they are, and boy did they give me some stick yesterday! Let me know how you get on and I will certainly take it up with the promoters as well. Good luck Marshy. The reason people are getting pissed is because you're moaning to the wrong people. Yeah, you had a bad experience. We get that. But we can't do anything about it. Stop flogging the horse. I sympathise, hence why I said about the venue research and the rep the 02 has with ticket prices, but there's not alot else you can do by complaining here. If you really want to stand up for your rights, and I mean actually stand up and not write a post on a forum, do what the other people are saying and e-mail the agencys and get something done. I'm all for better sounding venues, infact, I have a friend from uni who's chosen a career path in sound architechture so I've looked at stuff like that and it looks interesting to say the least. So push for that. At the end of the day though, why should the 'brainwashed' members waste their time in campaigning for a cause they don't believe in? If they had a great experience why should they continually support you and condolingly pat you on the back? I personally didn't hear the sub-par sound at the gig so I can't comment on your issues, and thus, get behind you because what I heard sounded awesome.
  12. This just appears that someone's fuming because they didn't really do their research about a venue properly before buying. I could be mistaken, and the actual details didn't come up before the transaction was completed (in which case, more fool you, marshy), but if you're going to be spending an obscene amount of money surely people look into where they're going to be sitting, how far away it is, what the sounds been like at previous gigs (you've said yourself, the internet is full of opinions - so use it!) etc etc. Certainly saves alot of hassle that way.
  13. QUOTE (Tony R @ May 26 2011, 10:32 PM) QUOTE (Mandalorian Hunter @ May 26 2011, 11:21 PM) QUOTE (Tony R @ May 26 2011, 09:45 PM) Well when one person's enjoyment involves jumping on, molesting, threatening or generally mithering everyone else in the vicinity then you really can't ignore it. Well yeah, that's a given. Didn't think I'd have to point that out. But whether people are clapping or sitting? Depends whether it's during new Rush or old Rush...

  15. Personally, that was the best of the four concerts I've been to. Firstly, and the most important part, the band were on fire! I've never seen them that into a concert, improvising some parts and generally looking like they were having a blast. Secondly, the audience; rocking out when it called for it, but polite and considerate of whoever was sitting next to them. I was in A2 and EVERYBODY looked to be enjoying themselves whether standing or sitting. Also, I'd take a 'limp' southern audience anyday over having an idiotic, drunken Mancunian (this isn't aimed at anyone here, btw) screaming random things completely unrelated to the concert he's watching. On another sidenote, this audience didn't seem any different to the Newcastle audience around where I was sitting in '07. Give me a proper standing section and a decent enough pit and I'd jump away, but sometimes you have to go par for the course. I'd love a Muse-style rockout for 2112. Anyway, I'm not particularly sure why a person's enjoyment of a show comes from what other people are doing; sitting, standing, rocking, nodding, drinking, not drinking etc etc. You've payed for YOUR ticket, look after yourself, enjoy yourself and don't give two-hoots about the rest. I had a 6'5 guy infront of me all night who did no moving whatsoever. Could've got annoyed with it, but why waste the energy getting stressed? I was still having a blast regardless.
  16. QUOTE (ak2112 @ Apr 14 2011, 04:20 AM) MP was recorded in analog amd mixed/mastered digitally. Even though thats the case, this DVD-A falls FAR short of other DVD-A's of older albums that I own. Two that come to mind are the Eagles Hotel California and Fleetwood Macs Rumours, both of which pre-date Moving Pictures and both of which blow it out of the water in terms of audio quality. The more I listen to this new Moving Pictures, the more disappointed I feel. This is not a knock on Rush but I do feel like they need to get someone else other than Chycki to remaster their albums. Steve Wilson from Porcupine Tree comes to mind. All of PT's albums sound amazing on DVD-A and the remastering of King Crimsons albums that he did sound just awesome. This new MP is a major sonic bummer for me, though I hope all the new remasters come out in DVD-A...I just hope Rich Chycki isnt the one mastering them all, though I have a sickening feeling he will be There's some hints we might be getting 2112 from SW.
  17. QUOTE (ak2112 @ Apr 13 2011, 08:23 PM) The main thing that irritates me about this release is that it's been advertised as a high Rez 24 bit/96kHz remaster when in fact it is not. It is an upsampled 16 bit/44.1kHz master. Now, many on here might not care about this kind of thing but myself and many others do since it is false advertising, bordering on fraud. It may be 5.1 folks, but it is not high Rez. Very sad. It definitely doesn't sound as clear as the PT releases I've heard and I guess this could be why, rather than bad mixing (which it could be to). Just a question, does anyone elses CD skip on a few songs?
  18. Everyone search for Paul McGann or 8th Doctor. It's probably all speculation, but cool none the less!
  19. QUOTE (ak2112 @ Apr 9 2011, 10:32 PM) Sure, like I've said, I find the 5.1 remix to be fun to listen to and I was one of the first in Anchorage Alaska to pick this up at BB I have no doubt. That being said, my only gripe about it (and to be clear about this it is MY OPINION, not to be taken as saying I think its fact) is that the audio quality is not nearly as good as it could have been. Does Alex have an absolute right (a long with Geddy and Neil) to decide how their albums should soun when remastered/remixed? Of course. They should have the right of first refusal when deciding what is good enough for release or not. I'm just saying that there are other companies out there (MFSL in particular) that have released versions of Rush's albums that blow versions produced by the band out of the water in terms of warmth, detail and dynamics. Moving Pictures is one of those albums. The 5.1 is a real kick to listen to and I'm glad I bought the DVD-A release. I'm just saying it could have been SO much better quality of a release. I hope for better results when the release the other albums and even though I'm bummed about the sound quality of this new release, I'll still be first in line when the other albums are re-released. Why? Because I love Rush!! Regardless of what it could have sounded like, how does IT sound. No comparisons to other MP releases, no comparisons to other 5.1 releases and all the could've beens and should've beens, give us all a plain review of what we'll have(possibly) in our hands!
  20. Maybe I shouldn't have pre-ordered it... I'm a little surprised about the 97 remaster comments, only because compared to the other bands I listen to the 97 MP is considerably quieter when on the same volume. So if this new one is quieter than that, it'll be all good for me! Plus, regardless of whether it's audiophile quality or not, I'm still really excited to hear MP in 5.1
  21. QUOTE (Oziumrules @ Mar 31 2011, 06:10 PM) QUOTE (Glee @ Mar 31 2011, 08:01 AM) Great pics. Were those with a cell phone, or did you have a camera? Going to the show in Nashville and have 3rd row. Would love to get some similar pics but am concerned about what to use. advice? I used my Canon SD digital camera. I snapped some cellphone shots but they didn't come out as good. I took over 200+ photos and these were some of my favs. Excellent shots! What's the exact model of your camera, if you don't mind me asking? I need to get a new one, and better to get a good one for concerts.
  22. QUOTE (Good, bad, andrush @ Mar 10 2011, 06:43 PM) But I can see Craig becoming the best if he pulls of something more espionage-ish, like From Russia With Love. If he makes five films, and keeps the trend up (but even better and with a little more of the classic-bond type feel to it, though not too much) he'll become the best to me. Craig's been making noises about liking Mad Men and that kind of retro feel, and talks about doing a Bond film in Fleming's era. How amazing would that be! http://www.thebookbond.com/2009/03/daniel-...l-may-care.html
  23. I recently finished my Ultimate Edition collection and have started watcing the films in order. I must say I was completely suprised with the Moore films. I'd seen them on TV but didn't pay much attention, but this time I was devoting my attention to them and they were pretty good. The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker were pretty much rubbish but entertaining, but the other five films are genuinely good. Moore is far less tongue-in-cheek than I thought he was, and the plots to Octopussy, A View To A Kill, For Your Eyes Only and Live and Let Die weren't as over the top as I believed them to be. There's some serious themes and acting in them. Then there's Christopher Lee! Favourite Five: From Russia With Love Licence To Kill Casino Royale GoldenEye Goldfinger The biggest disappointment about the film series is that some films didn't stick closer to the novels. It can't be conincidence that the films that did are usually the more revered.
