Good bad lyrics

Recommended Posts

To borrow the concept from another interesting thread on vocalist, I thought it might be interesting to see if the same concept could be applied to the lyrics they sing.    The inspiration for this is Best I Can, where Geddy rhymes droll with rock and roll, and talks about being an impatient cat.     These lyrics make the song not only enjoyable musically but fun.

I realize that any entries below will be a matter of taste, and for that matter there might be no one who agrees with me about Best I Can.   But we could have some interesting entries and learn about some new songs for ourselves.    So post away!

I’ve always thought that was genius, lol.

The meta 2nd verse of Hold Back the Rain by Duran Duran.

So what if the words ain't rhyming?
Did you think that it's just a game?
And I probably didn't even say that right
And I really don't give a damn

nah, those are good good lyrics

My boyfriend always makes me skip this song because he thinks Mike Patton's lyrics are cheesy. They are, I really don't care, I love this song. I don't know who the chick singing is but I love her voice.

Licking your greasy spoon, jukebox playing my tune
Making out in your room, blowing up your balloon
Playing you like a bassoon but if I only knew
Where we were driving to, I wouldn't have let you fill my tank
I pulled in to your truck stop
And I'm sleeping on the asphalt eighteen
Wheelin' and siphon gas and I'm feeling you're my big 10-4

These are really pretty terrible...

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation

I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti

I seek to cure what's deep inside
Frightened of this thing that I've become

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa (I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa (I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa (gonna take the time)
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Steve Miller rhymes "facts is" with "Texas", and follows with "Justice" and "taxes".

Not one actual rhyme there, and it works anyway.

Unlike Toto's Africa, Take the Money and Run isn't pretending at anything so the bad rhymes don't matter. Africa is supposed to be deep and just comes across as ignorant.

Abracadabra may have the worst lyrics of any song not written on by Sammy Hagar.

I felt on her big fat fanny
Pulled out the jammy and killed the punani
And my dick runs deep, so deep, so deep
Put her ass to sleep

Almost as good as

You're the type of guy that likes to drink Olde English
I'm the type of guy to cold put on a pamper
You're the type of guy to say, what you talkin bout?
I'm the type of guy to leave my drawers in your hamper
I'm that type of guy

Well, I set my monkey on the log
And ordered him to do the Dog
He wagged his tail and shook his head
And he went and did the Cat instead
He’s a weird monkey, very funky

Maybe these from "School's Out" by Alice Cooper.

Well, we got no class
And we got no principals
And we got no intelligence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes

It's "we got no innocence", not intelligence.

Great lyrics for a song about a lack of formal education.

You're right. The website I copied that from got it wrong and I didn't notice.

Wikipedia actually said he's sung intelligence in concert though it was written as innocence.
