Texas King
What would be your examples for this thread? I'm going with this tune:
Lorraine
A lot of early Alice Cooper - Dead Babies, I Love The Dead, Raped and Freezin', and others. Amazing how a man that wrote and performed such songs turned out to be an Ozzie Nelson at heart. Edited November 19, 2019 by Lorraine

blueschica
What would be your examples for this thread? I'm going with this tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhtoRlVUPo0 That song was big back in the day. I think they were a group from Texas. I had a friend that moved there and she couldn't quit talking about them. :codger:

Do you know I remember the first time I ever heard that song? I ran out and bought the album. Think I was a sophomore in high school.:
Lorraine
Here, Rick. Let's throw this one in too. If for no other reason, the harmonica intro is the best ever.

Lorraine
I love the song, but the video they made for it is as creepy as creepy gets in my book.

HemiBeers
soundgarden played the 'Night Surf' video as an into on their superunknown tour. Actually it's Ben Shepherd's composition and performance. Realllly trippy. Then there's Black Rain which rocks.

invisible airwave
/thread That and The One I Love by R.E.M. are the essential “mistaken for love songs when they’re ugly and bitter” songs. Sadly ironic that after Bono claimed he was taking Helter Skelter from Charles Manson, this song inspired the murder of actress Rebecca Schaeffer a year later.

IbanezJem
Lou Reed - lots of options here - but "Harry's Circumcision" is pretty bleak and unpleasant.
HemiBeers
The entire Tool catalog. Not too many love ballads there.
driventotheedge
For me it's all the early Alice like several folks have already said. Dead Babies, whew. How about NIB by Sabbath?

Yes they are a Texas group from the '70's. They were managed by Terry Knight, the same guy who managed Grand Funk Railroad. Their first 3 or 4 albums were pretty good until a format change where they became much softer.

The lyrics yes, but the tune itself is a pretty straightforward rocker IMO.
