Fridge
To me it's the last album truly worthy of the Rush brand, however, the rot had started to set it. Force Ten is embarrassing, and the last two tracks are abysmal.....apart from that it's a damn fine collectionof songs. whatchoo talkin bout? Force Ten is great. It's the lyrics.....that f***ing clod Pye Dubois ruining it again

lifeson90
Another 10/10, played the sh*t outa this album in its day and many times after. love Tai Shan and High Water too, important kind of lower tempo elements to it Should say every Rush album 10/10 for me except Clockwork Angels which gets a mere 9.5 due to a couple tracks being sub par imo

tks95747
I like the whole album, including Tai Shan. It is just another face of the band that shows how diverse they can be. I'll take Tai Shan over most of the crap they try to pawn off as music these days. :rush:

Pressure/Hopenosis
Album took me a while to get into. I was still in my "metal" only mode. Hold your fire was way more mature then I was ready to handle at the time. A few years later I fully enjoyed what they accomplished...

New World Kid
I don't really get the hate for High Water. It's basically just the sequel to Mystic Rhythms, and that's a pretty well-enjoyed song by the fanbase. I actually even feel like there's a moment in the fade-out of Mystic Rhythms where Neil starts playing the beat to High Water, though maybe I'm imagining it. High Water also has a... cinematic... quality to me, musically. The composition is built for dramatic effect, for better or worse. Tai Shan... I get it, it's not even really rock music. I think it's a neat experiment, and even if it's not the most enjoyable thing to crank up on the car radio, I appreciate following a band that tries new things, takes some risks, and indulges their creativity.

It leads nicely into Show...from Presto. I really dont understand why people dont like it. Its better that 7/10ths of Roll the Bones. I’d agree with the 7/10th RTB idea with the only songs better than it being Dreamline, Bravado, and Where’s My Thing. It’s an above average song on a very good album. In fact, HYF is the last Rush album in which I enjoy (to some degree) all the tunes.

Timbale
I think there's some great stuff on the record, and I think they were stretching themselves, compositionally, so even if a song like Tai Shan is not very "Rushlike", I still think it's a worthy addition, and frankly more interesting than anything on Test For Echo or Snakes And Arrows. I feel like I'm in the minority in that the stinker on the record for me is Turn The Page. I find it cloying and robotic and soulless. It's the kind of song that I think people are thinking of (but likely don't know) when they say they hate Rush because they have no feel and their music is cold and has no emotion. It just makes me feel nothing.
Rush Cocky
It was new Rush at the time, and we were excited to hear new Rush. Now, over 20 years later, HYF just doesn't hold up. On the lower end of Rush albums IMO, doesn't get played a lot by me. Still better than at least 95% of the crap out there today though, so there's that. JohnRogers
As I matured and mellowed a bit I found HYF more and more enjoyable.
