The hindsight of realizing that "I really should have known better". That's what I think lies at the heart of this song. I think of the song, "The Lady Lies" by Genesis. There is a line that says, "But he never escaped them, for who can escape what he desires?" The lines of right and wrong get blurred in the face of the "Halo Effect". I think any guy has had the experience of placing the unattainable girl on a pedistal, so I certainly can identify with it. I consider Halo Effect like Different Strings in Permanent Waves. It reminds me of REO Speedwagon, pretty ordinary radio pop-rock really, but at least it's thoroughly coherent, tuneful and listenable.
