^^ Are you aiming to get all the Rush vinyl? I was getting hopeful for a while myself. Bjork album is a classic. Have you heard all 70s Kiss? If so your fave album please? Keep ém coming :hail:

My Rush vinyl collection inches closer to completion, though there's still a long ways to go. Here's what I have Rush wise so far on vinyl:

2112

2112 40th anniversary box

ATWAS (though it's very beat up and skips a lot, need a better copy)

AFTK

AFTK 40th anniversary box

Hemispheres 40th anniversary box (saw an old copy of Hems at the record store today for only 6 bucks! Didn't grab it since I have the box, but it's going to make someone very happy)

PeW

PeW 40th anniversary box)

MP

GuP

PoW

HYF

Not sure how I'll ever find those 90s and onwards albums on vinyl, but I'll nab them the first opportunity I get. Passed up that early compilation of the first three albums once a few years ago and I should've picked it up then. Also saw Signals at the record store today but it was more expensive than GuP and I figured I'll see it again sometime.

Very excited about that Bjork find, makes 5 Bjork albums I have altogether: two LPs, two CDs, and one digital

I haven't heard all 70s Kiss. Still need to get the first three albums, Alive II, Peter Criss, Gene Simmons, and a couple others, plus I only have Destroyer on CD. My current favorite of what I do have: Alive. But not counting live albums, probably Rock And Roll Over.

I found Presto and Counterparts separate times I was at my closest record store. They were both $35, but I felt like picking different albums. Now I regret it cuz they're both gone! :boohoo:

I did that once with a Queen album I've never seen on vinyl again. I can't even remember what I bought in its place that day, just that I passed up a great shot at furthering my Queen collection.

The other day I was looking over my CD collection and realized I didn't have Zappa's "One Size Fits All" (wtf??). Easily my favorite Zappa recording. Rectified that immediately. Ended up with the remastered version, released on 2012. Sounds great.

This could be good !

Pink Floyd Animals

http://www.loudersou...t-of-prog-stars

Vocal delivery is key to many of Floyd's tracks, masterful melodies that really can't be messed with much without completely steering the song away from the original to the point it's unrecognizable or, in the case of the Dogs youtube track they posted, unenjoyable. That vocalist is just... nope.

This article https://www.theatlan...w-music/621339/

isn't about any specific new music, but it is about the problems new music faces, and I thought it was interesting.

I skimmed about halfway through that but I can't really bring myself to take it seriously. The decline in streams of new music as compared to old music could be just as easily explained by older people generally being slower to embrace new technology, and Spotify didn't really become majorly popular till the mid 2010s, so it's not even a decade into the mainstream yet. That's a reasonable time in my mind for older generations to wait and think and hear about and finally decide to hop on board with streaming. The decline of Grammy viewership can be just as easily explained by an ever more online world and younger and younger music fans not giving two cents about what gets a Grammy since everyone knows they get it wrong more often than they get it right. Often times the best music of the year isn't even nominated (see The Weeknd, whose album After Hours was apparently good enough for a Super Bowl halftime show but not good enough for a Grammy nomination).

Are many younger people listening to a lot of music from before they were born? Yes! Actually that much is true in my own personal experience, but it's also true that Taylor Swift and Adele still dominate many of my peers' and friends' listening time, that every young music fan I know is thrilled with the prospects of Lil Nas X's career and chomping at the bit for new Kendrick Lamar to drop. New music is still alive and kicking. I also very relevant is the fact that, in the age of rateyourmusic.com, wikipedia, Spotify, and Anthony Fantano's classics week reviews, younger audiences have easy access to an infinitely larger variety of older music than they did even 15 years ago. The internet has made people more open minded in their taste not by magic, but simply by providing this very easy access to things they never would've heard about otherwise, and makes it easy to jump down any rabbit hole you want, from late 60s San Francisco scene psych rock, to mid 00s London scene Dubstep, to modern day Saharan psychedelic guitar music, to that ever infamous genre known as disco. As time goes on and people become more and more accustomed to having this access, I think they'll naturally find themselves more and more interested in having a balanced mix of old and new music in their lives. Does that mean there's more competition as a new artist, because you're not just competing against other new artists? Sure... but here's my hot take... I think that's a good thing! If modern Ed Sheehan has to compete with 1960s Paul McCartney for the best sad acoustic British folk-pop ballideering, I can't help but think that's gonna keep Ed on his toes and trying to put out his very best work, knowing some amount of his listenership might just turn on Yesterday instead. Will this work out in practice? I don't know, but I hope it does.

After my first week of work at a real architecture firm, I rewarded myself by looking up a record store in my new city and figuring out how to get there by bus, and it was really very simple! I enjoyed the ride, the sights, and the store, and I made some good purchases!

Jon Anderson - Olias Of Sunhillow

Beck, Bogert, & Appice - Beck, Bogert, & Appice

Fugazi - Repeater

I'll tell you right now I went to the right store in the right town for anything from Dischord records. :)

So far I've been visiting one new record store every weekend since I started my new job. And I've neglected to post what I've picked up in the past three weekends!

weekend 2: the word is energy!

Bad Brains - Bad Brains (this probably would've scared me 5 years ago, aside from the dub songs, which are excellent)

UFO - Strangers In The Night (And this melted my brain)

weekend 3: stuff I already loved but didn't have

ZZ Top - Rio Grande Mud (almost got Tres Hombres but, 40 bucks for that? I don't think so)

Rush - All The World's A Stage (to replace my old copy that's um... literally cracked right from the edge to the center hole on one record... yeah... don't worry I bought it that way, lol)

King Crimson - Islands (with the awesome spacey album cover instead of the lame beige one I've seen everywhere)

Renaissance - Turn Of The Cards (After finally finding this I don't feel I have much desire for anything else from this band, maybe the live album)

The Who - Who Are You (I think this is one of the cooler album covers of the late 70s)

today: returning to my deeper dive into alt and punk canon

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - Float Along -- Fill Your Lungs (literally could've gotten almost anything from this band, nearly all of their albums were in stock and around the same price point, yet somehow I decided to pick up the cashier's favorite King Giz album, the odds were pretty slim!)

Fugazi - Red Medicine (excited to see how this stacks up to In On The Kill Taker and Repeater, both of which I now love)

Flex Your Head - V/A (a Dischord records comp featuring Teen Idles, Untouchables, State Of Alert, Minor Threat, Government Issue, Youth Brigade, Red C, Void, Iron Cross, Artificial Peace, and Dealine... looks like 2 or 3 songs from each too... very excited to spin this!)

Mudhoney - Superfuzz Bigmuff (more grunge era stuff on vinyl? Yes please!)

Yeah... about that...

I've noticed that the Van Halen debut and 1984 have been going on for 40+bucks, and the other DLR era ones are normally priced.

I think all of the Crosley Cruiser people are buying all of the really popular albums, and now it's hard to find 'em.

I mean I think it’s also that prices are just different in the new place I’m living than they were back home. I suppose I’ll be seeing 50 dollar copies of Abbey Road soon enough. I got mine for 12!

Last weekend:

V/A - Function Underground (a comp of African-American rock music from the late 60s / early 70s, intriguing!)

Today, three increasingly exciting goodies:

Liz Phair - Soberish

Blue vinyl, happened to listen to Exile In Guyville again today before going shopping and I'm still entranced by Liz's songwriting on that album. I'm sure since this is her new one it's probably not got the same magic to it, but I've heard some good reviews of it and I got it for under 20 bucks even though it came out last year, so I consider that a good purchase.

Prince And The Revolution - Around The World In A Day

Had to check the pressing when I was cataloguing it in order to differentiate it on RYM from my CD copy... this is a first pressing. I'm convinced of it. And it's practically mint by the look of it. The sleeve is a bit dinged up, but the perforated panels that wrap around the gatefold are still intact and largely undamaged, which I hear isn't too common. ... 10 bucks!

Jeff Buckley - Grace

I did a double take when I saw this on vinyl, and not some new reissue either, but an older used copy. Album came out in 1994, right when CD's really overtook record sales for the foreseeable future. I had to check the pressing of this one too, and this album wasn't even released on vinyl in the US when it first came out. It didn't get a US vinyl pressing until 7 years after it's initial release, long after Jeff had passed away... This isn't the first US vinyl pressing, it's the second. A 10th anniversary edition released in 2004, which was still a horrible year for record sales and thus very difficult to find anything from in the wild, that originally came with a blue 7" single of a couple songs I haven't heard before. The single is missing from this package, and the record shows signs of having been played and not taken perfect care of, but it's probably not slipping down past a Good+ rating, maybe even a VG. The sleeve is practically pristine actually, and it still has the original inner sleeve. Anyway I went and looked this up on discogs because I was curious and the cheapest copy on Discogs right now goes for 40 bucks. Sleeve in similar condition, LP in better condition, no 7" single included. I figure with my record being a little more dinged up it could probably go for 30 if I were dumb enough to sell it. The lowest discogs has ever sold this pressing for is 20... I bought it for 18. Whoever priced this and the Prince record I bought was definitely off by a small but significant margin. I should've had to pay at least 25 for this and at least 15 for Prince. Probably more.

most recent purchases:

The Cure - Pornography

Neil Young - Zuma (just to show my support for him for obvious reasons)

Pearl Jam - Gigaton

Jimi - Electric Ladyland

Enter the Wu-Tang 36 Chambers

Been considering Billy Joel vol 1 especially since Turnstiles has some skips on the first and last songs. Only streamed Cold Springs Harbor once. Might get Live on Two Legs by Pearl Jam for the next RSD in April. Would love to see Lost Dogs get a reissue treatment.

Mmmm Electric Ladyland. That's an album that should be in everyone's collection. A real treat for the ears. Great stuff all around!

Yeah, I'm also reaching that point of considering which records I might want to replace due to scratches and skips on my current copies. I never used to care too much, but in the past couple years it's begun bothering me more, and I've made a couple light forays into getting my hands on cleaner copies. On one hand it feels kinda lame to go trying to find something I've theoretically already got. On the other... man will it be nice when my new In The Court Of The Crimson King record comes in so the surface noise isn't as loud as the mellotrons!

As a former Staten Islander, I couldn't give a f**k less about Wu-Tang.

They don't exist AFAIC. Just sayin. Shaolin my ass. What the f**k does that even mean??? Shaolin?

Now, SI's metal scene is a fine heritage. Proud and loud.

The other weekend I nabbed these three on vinyl:

Prince and the Revolution - Parade (my favorite of his, sounds way better on vinyl than my iTunes version ever did wow)

Toto - Toto IV (I was desperate to find this a few years ago, now it's mine and I haven't been in the mood for it yet, lol)

Dave Brubeck Quartet - Countdown: Time In Outer Space (had this out from the library years and years ago, remembered liking it a lot)

Also in the past couple days made some CD and digital purchases online of things that have been recommended to me recently:

CD

Dio - The Last In Line (recommended to me by J2112YYZ)

Trivium - Shogun (recommended to me by Segue)

Marillion - Clutching At Straws (recommended to me by Laurabw and Mick)

digital

Save Face - Another Kill For The Highlight Reel (recommended to me by Super25Smasher)

Twenty One Pilots - Twenty One Pilots (recommended to me by my little sister)

If you don't mind me asking, how much did that Chili Pepper's record run you? I've always wanted to get some RCHP on vinyl, but they're always a good 5-15 bucks over what I feel I aught to pay for them.
