Music I've gotten for Christmas and with Christmas money:

Rush - Permanent Waves [40th Anniversary Super Deluxe Box Set]

vinyl:

David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars

Thin Lizzy - Black Rose: A Rock Legend

MisterWives - Superbloom

Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger (25th anniversary double LP remaster)

The Killers - Imploding The Mirage

Kiss - Rock And Roll Over

King Crimson - Discipline

Gentle Giant - Three Friends

Paul McCartney - Ram

CD:

Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time

Madvillain - Madvillainy

Is the PeW box worth every penny? What's your take on the albums from Maiden, McCartney, Kiss and Bowie? Do you have much more CDs than vinyl in your collection?

Well the PeW box was a christmas gift, so I'm not sure how much was spent on it, but I really love it! So much cool stuff in there. Very nice book and lyric sheets.

Maiden: I've only listened to it a couple times but I do really like it. A Very consistent album will lots of catchy melodies. Maybe it runs a bit long?

McCartney: I've only listened to it once, but I can tell easily why its considered one of his best. Super imaginative arrangements, colorful production, and McCartney melodies.

Kiss: This one's like candy. Hard candy specifically. It's sweet and crunchy and makes up in flash and style whatever it may lack in substance, though a couple of the tunes do get a little more nuanced than your typical Kiss fare, which I appreciate. Overall a hard rocking good time.

Bowie: This is my favorite Bowie record and the first of his I ever listened to back when I first got into him. I'm just happy to finally have it on vinyl.

Hm, I'm not sure if I have more CDs or records at this point. I know of the records I keep on my main shelf (and not in hard to reach boxes where they don't get played much) number about 500-600 at the moment. I've never done a count of the CDs, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's also in that ballpark, give or take a 100.

What I picked up over vacation:

Vinyl:

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King (It's pretty noisy and skips a little, but I know most of the album by heart already, and I have the nice digital version with bonus tracks from iTunes. Maybe some day I'll shell out for a better vinyl copy, but for now it's more for the sake of my collection than fidelity)

Queen - Hot Space (yes!)

Kiss - Love Gun (this album cover just belongs on vinyl)

Renaissance - Scheherazade And Other Stories

Chris Squire - Fish Out Of Water

Jeff Beck - Beck Ola

Charlie Daniels Band - Million Mile Reflections

Firefall - Luna Sea (this album cover looks cooler than the music inside probably sounds, but it was 50 cents)

Louden Wainright III - T-Shirt

Linda Ronstadt - Heart Like A Wheel

Jean-Luc Ponty - Civilized Evil

Foghat - Live!

Uriah Heep - Sweet Freedom

Angel - On Earth As It Is In Heaven

Jethro Tull - This Was

CD:

Olivia Rodrigo - Sour

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

Blink-182 - Blink-182

The Police - Ghost In The Machine

digital:

Weezer - Van Weezer

Gojira - Fortitude

Loved Fish Out Of Water! Immediately a prog favorite of mine. Better than a number of 70s Yes albums.

^^ Are you aiming to get all the Rush vinyl? I was getting hopeful for a while myself. Bjork album is a classic. Have you heard all 70s Kiss? If so your fave album please? Keep ém coming :hail:

My Rush vinyl collection inches closer to completion, though there's still a long ways to go. Here's what I have Rush wise so far on vinyl:

2112

2112 40th anniversary box

ATWAS (though it's very beat up and skips a lot, need a better copy)

AFTK

AFTK 40th anniversary box

Hemispheres 40th anniversary box (saw an old copy of Hems at the record store today for only 6 bucks! Didn't grab it since I have the box, but it's going to make someone very happy)

PeW

PeW 40th anniversary box)

MP

GuP

PoW

HYF

Not sure how I'll ever find those 90s and onwards albums on vinyl, but I'll nab them the first opportunity I get. Passed up that early compilation of the first three albums once a few years ago and I should've picked it up then. Also saw Signals at the record store today but it was more expensive than GuP and I figured I'll see it again sometime.

Very excited about that Bjork find, makes 5 Bjork albums I have altogether: two LPs, two CDs, and one digital

I haven't heard all 70s Kiss. Still need to get the first three albums, Alive II, Peter Criss, Gene Simmons, and a couple others, plus I only have Destroyer on CD. My current favorite of what I do have: Alive. But not counting live albums, probably Rock And Roll Over.

The Paranoid vinyl was an original - I somehow found it in a clearance bin for $5. I got it the first day it was in stock. I'm sure someone else would've taken it soon as well.

I found Lamb while looking through the Genesis bin - I found a copy for only $4, but with some torn up sleeves and cover (which I was able to fix easily)

I also forgot to mention my first and currently my only 45 - Van Halen's "Can't Stop Lovin' You" - I got it because it had "Crossing Over" as the B-Side - I think I got it for a few bucks online

Very jealous of Paranoid. Sabbath is so hard to find at a reasonable price. Like, I just don't really want to pay 30 bucks for that album when A. I've heard it many times before B. you aren't offering any bonus tracks or extra posters or cool liner notes or nothing and C. perhaps most importantly, it's really a pretty short album overall. What am I paying like close to 80 / 90 cents per minute of runtime? I can't justify it, not when I could get four or five times as much music for the sam price buying cheaper records.

At my closest record store, $39-$45 + tax for one Sabbath album :boo hiss: :boo hiss: :boo hiss:

Edit: I always thought that the Sabbath overprice happened at my closest record store only... wow

I found Presto and Counterparts separate times I was at my closest record store. They were both $35, but I felt like picking different albums. Now I regret it cuz they're both gone! :boohoo:

Trip to the record store today, my favorite one in the world right here in my hometown. All vinyl:

1. The Rolling Stones - Between The Buttons [Mono]

I had a choice between this and a few other early albums for similar prices. I settled on this for two reasons: 1. It had more than one song I already knew, 2. Charlie grinning front and center on that album cover.

2. Genesis - And Then There Were Three

With this album purchase, I now own every Genesis album from 1969-1991, including live albums, as well as one of their two EPs (the one which isn't already represented on side 4 of Three Sides Live). I also have a hits compilation from the late 90s, but dad bought that one more for himself and I don't really listen to it.

3. Genesis - Trespass

And with this album purchase, I now own every Genesis album from 1969-1986 on vinyl, still including live albums.

4. King Crimson - Beat

Continuing an ongoing tradition where I wind up getting a KC album unlikely to crack my top 3 or 4 of theirs on vinyl, while I settle for digital with my favorites. Though I did finally get a copy of ITCOTCK earlier this summer, so maybe Red, Islands, and Larks' Tongues In Aspic will follow shortly!

5. OutKast - Aquemini

My first hip hop album on vinyl. My favorite album by my favorite hip hop artist.
