2112rush Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Sounds Epic, even though im struggling to understand what Geddy is saying at some points. Geddy is hitting some pretty high notes, which is great and if this is a taster of what is to come we are in for a treat
Mr. Henry Gale Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 QUOTE (rummut71 @ Apr 18 2012, 09:22 AM) QUOTE (Mr. Henry Gale @ Apr 18 2012, 11:18 AM) Well, as someone that was not a fan of S&A, I think this song kicks ass. At least to me, it sounds like older rush meets VT era Rush vocals. But then again, I guess it's all just perception/opinion. All I know is, this is probably one of the better things I've heard out of them in a while. I'm impressed! Wow, people are coming out of the woodwork for this... College life has consumed me! Still a big Rush fan.
Merely Space Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yep... Still plenty of rocket sauce in the bottle.
trenken Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Ugh do not like the vocals AT ALL. Terrible lazy ass melodies. Music is pretty cool. Not a big fan of this one.
SlackJaw Gazer Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 QUOTE (rushgoober @ Apr 18 2012, 12:22 PM) QUOTE (Strangiato @ Apr 18 2012, 09:50 AM) Anyone want to fill in the missing lyrics for me? Here is what I have so far. All the journeys Of this great adventure This didn't always feel that way -missing- Because I make them The best I could and that's enough to say Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again All the highlights Of that headlong flight Holding on with all our might -missing- I wish that I could live it all again I( or I'll) stroke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to feel Oh i wish that i could live it all again All the treausures The gold and glory It didn't always feel that way I don't regret it I'll never forget it I wouldn't take a moment for today? Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again I(or I'll) stroke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to feel Oh i wish that i could live it all again *garbled voice* the days were dark *garbled voice* and the nights were bright *garbled voice* -missing- *garbled voice* -missing- All the highlights Of that headlong flight Holding on with all our might Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again I(or I'll) stroke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to feel Oh i wish that i could live it all again I(or I'll) stroke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to feel Oh I wish that I could Oh I wish that I could live it all again While the lyrics are incomplete, thanks for posting this - it helped with my enjoyment of the song. Thank God some of the fake lyrics people posted were incorrect! This at least sounds/feels like a Rush song, and it especially sounds like it could be part of a story. I filled in some of your blanks best I could: All the journeys Of this great adventure This didn't always feel that way I wouldn't (shoot?) them Because I make them The best I could and that's enough to say Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again All the highlights Of that headlong flight Holding on with all our might To where I felt that (place?) I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to feel Oh I wish that I could live it all again All the treasures The gold and glory It didn't always feel that way I don't regret it I'll never forget it I wouldn't trade tomorrow for today Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to feel Oh I wish that I could live it all again The days were dark And the nights were bright Hey, man I would never trade tomorrow for today All the highlights Of that headlong flight Holding on with all our might Some days were dark I wish that I could live it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to feel Oh I wish that I could live it all again I stoke the fire of the big steel wheels Steer the airship right across the stars I learned to fight, I learned to love, and learned to steal Oh I wish that I could Oh I wish that I could live it all again That seems to be MOST of the lyrics and MOSTLY CORRECT - if anyone can add any further tweaks, please do - thanks to Strangiato for doing most of the work! in the spoken part there is a Yeah at the end.... The days were dark And the nights were bright Hey man I would never trade Tomorrow for today Yeah

kena2112 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN SENDING ME LITTLE SNIPPETS VIA TEXT MESSAGE AND ALL I CAN SAY IS I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR IT. EmotionDetector Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Terrible time to be stuck on a conference call!!! Still haven't heard it...
third hand grace Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YEAH OH YEAH !!!!!!!
trenken Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I do like the middle jam section in this one. It doesn't feel super awkward like the Caravan one, but its really just the vocals turning me off. They sound slapped together. He used to be great at writing vocal melodies but they just sound strange and not anything memorable or catchy in there by him.

Lerxster Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Parts of this song make me want to scream like a little girl at a Beatles concert. What a reaction I'm having to this. I LOVE IT!

1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 At 5:37-5:47, before the vocals come back in -- sort of a subtle reference to "Main Monkey Business?"
bigman208 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Holy crap!!! What an awesome tune!!! Rock solid playing from all 3 guys, and Geddy is really hitting some big long notes!! It is a little tough to understand what he is saying, but I'm honestly thinking its due to the compression of the file on Rolling Stone's website. I think it will be fine on the album. I can't wait for the new album!! Its NEW time!!!
Godeater2112 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I am pretty sure one correction for the lyrics will be: Some days were dark I wish that I could leave it all again Some nights were bright I wish that I could live it all again Great job on the lyrics boys!

ReflectedLight Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 QUOTE (snowdog212 @ Apr 18 2012, 11:20 AM) Previewed on RS does this mean they are going to finally be on the cover does it matter? rs is a piece of sh*t and should be recycled and made specifically into toilet paper, ultra plush please.
Merely Space Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Apr 18 2012, 12:48 PM) At 5:37-5:47, before the vocals come back in -- sort of a subtle reference to "Main Monkey Business?" Could be be. I hear what you mean, but they may also be unintentionally borrowing from themselves.
snowdogged Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 QUOTE (rushgoober @ Apr 18 2012, 12:27 PM) Of course this will probably come down soon, but the song has already made it's way to youtube - is it just me or is the sound noticeably better? Sounds like it's been cleaned up a bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pClcoXV5R58 Hey Goobs, I haven't posted in awhile but I have come by to check things out once in a while. I was listening to the song for like the dozenth time and in the middle of it I closed it to click on your youtube link and when I clicked on it and saw what came up I literally said "What an asshole!" with sort of a grin on my face. Goobs, you'll never change. Anyhow, the song ROCKS. They have not played like this in a long time and showed off their chops through an entire song. It is going to take a lot of listens to to really digest the whole song. There are a lot of cool parts in the song and each time I listen I hear something new. I just don't know if it will get a lot of radio airplay because it might not be catchy enough but maybe it will just simply because of the incredible musicianship. I love the song but I need to listen many more times before I can really evaluate it.
ReflectedLight Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Apr 18 2012, 11:22 AM) QUOTE (snowdog2112 @ Apr 18 2012, 09:10 AM) And I'll be the first to say it, just as I expected there's nothing "Bytor-ish" about it unless you want to count the drum fill. actually Alex's wah wah solo does sound a little Bytor-ish. but that's where the similarities end. i really like the wah wah and how he used it.
Presto-digitation Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 The plodding bit/section reminds me of the like-section from Armor & Sword. That modulated/distorted vocal kind of is reminiscent of Porcupine Tree's like-section in the song Shallow.
