Czarcasm
Hello again. I've recently been listening to a Rush greatest hits collection and I gotta say, I'm really loving songs from the 80s. The Body Electric, Mission, Mystic Rhythms, Marathon, Time Stand Still, Distant Early warning, Force Ten, Red Sector A. All of these songs are great. My question for you all now is: Which album from the 80's is best? I don't know if the album with the most hits is the most consistent or if the album with the most songs I like is actually the weakest. Same Question for the 90s. I love Roll the Bones, Test for Echo and Driven. Which of the 90s is the strongest? Thanks for any knowledge, guys.
ColdFireYYZ
Best 80's - Either Signals of Permanent Waves. I can't decide. Best 90's - Counterparts
gatorbass
QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Jul 9 2011, 08:00 PM) Best 80's - Either Signals of Permanent Waves. I can't decide. Best 90's - Counterparts +1. Signals is the ultimate synth Rush album, but Permanent Waves is so all around good that it has to rank at least top five of all time. 90's Rush doesn't really do it for me, but Counterparts had the better songs of that decade. Oracle
80s: 'Power Windows'. PoW really embodies the entire synth-era Rush more so than 'Signals'. 90s: 'Counterparts'. Not much 90s Rush that I can stand, but 'Counterparts' is the heaviest of their 90s material. Wish I could say the same for T4E. Damn it, now I have the urge to listen to PoW. I'll do that now! Life is Just the Candle
80s - Permanent Waves, Signals, Moving Pictures, GUP, Presto, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire. (All of these albums are great in my opinion.) 90s - Counterparts, Roll the Bones, Test for Echo. (Counterparts is amazing, but RTB and T4E are my least favorite Rush albums.) 1 of the 7
, of course: 80's - Power Windows & Grace Under Pressure are my faves, but you can't go wrong with ANY 80's album. Keep in mind I'm one of those ladies from the 80's, though 90's - I like Roll the Bones, but few do, and Counterparts. Test For Echo is hit and miss. Tommy Sawyer
Well the problem with saying best album from the eighties is that the 80s had both the PeW/MP era and the synth era. Also, the 90s had both the Presto/RTB era and the CP/TFE era. So I'll do this in sections. Accessible Prog Era (1980-81): Moving Pictures Synth Era (82-88): Grace Under Pressure Soft Rock Era (89-92): Presto Late 90s Alternitive/Hard Rock Era (93-96): My fav is Test for Echo, but Counterparts is probably better. If you want just 80s/90s, here: 80s: Moving Pictures 90s: Presto or Counterparts. Clear as mud, right? CMWriter
I'd have to say.. from the '80's, either Signals or Grace Under Pressure. They're both really great. But HYF has some amazing bass moments. GAH I DON'T KNOW. ;~; It's so difficult to choose. From the '90's, definitely Counterparts, hands-down. RTB had its moments but it just doesn't measure up, imo, even with Bravado. It was a good.. transition album.
StellarJetman
Presto (honorable mentions go to Power Windows and Moving Pictures) and Counterparts, although the latter really doesn't have much competition. rushgoober
80's - Signals, but I wouldn't blame anyone for choosing MP or Permanent Waves. 90's - Counterparts by a thousand million miles. RTB & T4E aren't worthy to wipe CP's ass.

IChoseFreeWill
90s it would be Test for Echo. Unless you consider Presto to be a 90s album. 80s my favorite is Permanent Waves. If you consider PeW to be a 70s album, then it would be a tougher decision. Moving Pictures may be their most successful one- and Limelight is my 2nd fave Rush song, and YYZ my fave instrumental. But Hold Your Fire has 3 songs in it that I like a lot.
