Thanks -- sounds like a killer set.

Heard last night's Yes show was a little better... eh.gif And that Squire even joked about the first night, saying something to the effect of, "Maybe things will be better by the third night!" Something you really want to tell the crowd on the 2nd night! confused13.gif

Speaking as a longtime Yes fan (28 years+) who has been disappointed with their output post 1994, I am delighted with Fly From Here.

To me this is a great, great Yes album. Certainly their strongest since Big Generator, and that's coming from someone who really likes Talk.

True this is Trevor Horn's vision of a modern Yes, but it really works for me. Strong harmonies, great playing and a crystal clear make this a pleasure to listen to.

Those who miss Anderson's input will simply never get it, which is fair enough. However, to those people I would simply ask 'What's Anderson done recently that's been any good?'

His output since Talk & his own Deseo album has been largely dire. He lost his lyrical edge years ago, merely rehashing the same old ideas again & again.

For those that crave the 'Old' Yes then there is the Anderson/Wakeman project. Me? I'll be watching the current line-up.

I'm also a longtime Yes fan, going back to even before I was a RUSH fan...circa 1970something.

I've seen (heard) recent videos, BD is nothing but a very poor Jon Anderson imitator, with 1/3 the talent. This incarnation of Yes is a parody of itself and they should call it a day. They look like a sad bunch of old men up there trying to recapture something that they lost decades ago. To me, they are the opposite of what RUSH has become. RUSH are still vibrant and they infuse life into their music (new and old). I've never been disappointed by a live RUSH show or video.

I've heard Fly From Here...it's weaker than anything Yes has ever done. It drones on and on and it's boring. I think some diehards are in denial. That's fine, I'm probably in denial about many of the bands I've loved for years.

Here's the bottom line though, this band and their (new) music no longer make me happy. If they can make you happy, good for you and keep listening.

That looks like a killer set. I wish they were still doing I'm OK though. That was a highlight last time. Man in the Wilderness should be good though. smile.gif

I take exception to Geoff going off on the fans. He's played on what I consider to be the two worst (and unYes-like) Yes studio albums (Drama and Fly From Here). Believe me though, my tongue was firmly planted in cheek when I wrote that...though a lot of it smacks of the truth as I see it.

I have no problem with people going to the shows and supporting this band. I just don't care for an interloper like Geoff going off on people for voicing their opinions.

Believe me, there are a lot more fans of Yes with JA than there are Yes with BD. They should have ended Yes when they screwed Jon over. Instead they get a mimic and now someone who bad mouths the fans...great move Chris and company.

Understood. GD does need to let people have opinions. And I could be wrong, but this release and tour may simply boil down to a simple money maker. That being said, I am happy it happened. yes.gif

I'm glad people are enjoying the new record, I don't begrudge them that. I really do hope they have a successful tour (even though I'm not cool with what they did to Jon). Yes has given me a lot of joy over the majority of my life. Squire was always a part of that, no matter how I feel about him now. GD, IMO, is a hired gun...similar to BD but with a lot more talent wink.gif

Just saw them with Styx tonight. They started off badly; the first couple songs were barely recognizable. Benoit didn't sound bad at all. He really doesn't deserve all the hate he gets (and I'll admit, I've criticized him a lot in the past, but he sounded better live than on Youtube). It was mostly Squire and Howe. I don't know if it was the sound system, but at first it sounded like a bunch of noise. Luckily though, after a few songs, they improved. Despite the first couple songs, they put on a good show, which was worth seeing.

Highlights for me were And You And I, Fly From Here, Starship Trooper, and Roundabout.

Even though they were good, Styx blew them away. They had much more energy, and played their asses off. The setlist was excellent too (One With Everything and Man In The Wilderness were highlights).

It was an overall good, enjoyable concert. I'm glad that I was able to see Chris Squire and Steve Howe before they retire.

Hey Fire!

Your review makes sense as I read that Downes article that Nappy posted.

The bugs are still being worked out.

I am hoping by August 3 they will be on fire. If not it's no big deal.

I've never seen Yes, but I have seen Asia and Howe blew my fukking mind. I loved it when Downes and Co did "Video Killed The Radio Star."

Of course it was the last night in North America so the did the entire ASIA album all the way through.

As an Asia Addict Dork, I was in heaven.

Anyway I don't care about the set list or about the 90 minutes. I simply can't wait to see Kansas, Styx and Yes together.

It's a fukking prog retro ORGY!

I hope YES comes back to North America and does a headlining show so they can play their new album all the way through!!!

I'm hooked!!!

You know I've been on a big YES kick this week and I even pulled out "Big Generator."

I loved it.

Haven't listened to that album in ten years. I think that the record is still fantastic and fresh although I remember a few on the songs on MTV every hour on the hour.

Damn I'm getting old. Fukking 43, going on 18.

YES ON!

Kansas is opening? I heard that all the other shows except for the one I went to was going to have some band called Toy open. Never heard of them, but Kansas is great. I guess the casino has a curfew so that's why they didn't open tonight.

I read somewhere that Yes will be headlining this fall, but I probably won't see them again because I want to save up for Steven Wilson tickets.

huh.gif

You've missed some incredible concerts over the years.

The Masterworks tour from 2000 was stellar.

I've seen Yes 29 times from 1984-2004.

I never thought I'd see the day when Styx would blow Yes away. Or that Styx would put on a more professional and practiced show while Yes was still working out the bugs. Yes used to be nothing if not professional and spot on with each performance. I hope they get things worked out. The only way for GD to silence the critical fans is to perform like Yes.

God bless Rush for being so....NORMAL. Seriously, the Yes guys have created some amazing music but they just cannot seem to put their bullshit aside and just be happy and create music and play.

I will be buying the album on Tuesday when it comes out. I am excited! I really hope there is at least something redeeming on it. I really liked Magnification and The Ladder, so if this at least brings me as much enjoyment as them, then it'll be a success in my eyes.
