I know this is a Yes thread, but what did Styx play? I am going to the Yes/Styx show in Nashville on the 16th. Thanks! biggrin.gif

It's supposed to be up on the Dime later so I'll post it then.

The Yes show is up and dreadful (David had an awful night) , and as I feared they say Styx was far better. Guess I'll listen and find out for myself.

I've been frequenting the Yes forums and that seems to be the overall feeling, that Benoit's vocals were weak, and even failed at points. And the band itself was sluggish. Could be first night jitters? Heard they only rehearsed for one week prior to the show. eh.gif

Love Styx, they always seem to bring it when they play. I figure they will stick to hits, mainly, being a shared bill with Yes. It appears Yes did the same.

For someone to whom Styx always meant a definition of what a rock band should NEVER, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOVER, should sound like, that's probably the most devastating comment about Yes you can imagine.

And the bad thing is ... I believe every word of it!

Yet ... they play Tempus Fugit. Badly, as it seems, but they play it ...

It sounds like me trying to sing Heart of the Sunrise. rofl3.gif

And the same old same old, save the new song. Saw some video from last night and it just seemed lazy. I love Yes, but this is mailing it in.

Wow, Styx's set blows Yes's away. One With Everything and Man In The Wilderness are great songs.

I think I may try to get tickets for the show Friday night. I'm not really looking forward to Yes, but I really want to go after seeing Styx's set. Hopefully Benoit David's voice will improve.

I decided to get the cheapest tickets for Friday. I'll see how Yes sounds, but I'm just going to see Styx. I really hope that Yes doesn't entirely suck, because this will be my first Yes show. The videos of the Styx set from last night sounded great however. 1022.gif

Well, you critical grumps, I for one am looking forward to seeing Yes for the first time biggrin.gif

setlist is good, the "new" song is good, nothing not to like unless you're going in expecting to see a '77 performance.

Either way, you all are entitled to your cynical opinions.. Just know you could be a bit more optimistic about it all..

Benoit David sounds more like Trevor Horn than Jon Anderson to me.

How many times are people going to have to say this? It makes me wonder who the real mocking birds are.

Personally, I just think he sounds like Benoit.

And the funny thing is, no one was saying Benoit sounded like Horn until we started seeing Drama II come to be... Really gives me the impression we're throwing tomatoes at the guy for jack.

Speaking as a longtime Yes fan (28 years+) who has been disappointed with their output post 1994, I am delighted with Fly From Here.

To me this is a great, great Yes album. Certainly their strongest since Big Generator, and that's coming from someone who really likes Talk.

True this is Trevor Horn's vision of a modern Yes, but it really works for me. Strong harmonies, great playing and a crystal clear make this a pleasure to listen to.

Those who miss Anderson's input will simply never get it, which is fair enough. However, to those people I would simply ask 'What's Anderson done recently that's been any good?'

His output since Talk & his own Deseo album has been largely dire. He lost his lyrical edge years ago, merely rehashing the same old ideas again & again.

For those that crave the 'Old' Yes then there is the Anderson/Wakeman project. Me? I'll be watching the current line-up.
