Venturing more into the Stoner Rock genre

Posted (edited)

Worked from home today (well for part of the day - took the afternoon off to take dad to a doctors appt). So that meant it was time to fire up the record player and whatever came out of the moving boxes got listened to.  First out:

My Fair Lady -  staring Rex Harrison & Julie Andrews

Great musical.  Mom must have given it to me at some point.  I can recall her playing it a ton when I was a young kid.  I enjoyed it then and still strongly enjoy it.  A real classic (IMO).  Next out of the box:

Molly Hatchet - Double Trouble Live

Bit of a musical switch here!  Molly Hatchet is one of the few bands that was active in the 1970's and 1980's that I wanted to see but never got to see live.

So, live Molly Hatchet, what not to like?  Well, there actually is one thing on it that I am not thrilled by.  They cover "Freebird" on it.  I can understand why but "Freebird" is not a song I go wild for.  If you are talking about Southern Rock guitar jams I greatly prefer "Green Grass & High Tides" by The Outlaws.  If you are talking about Skynyrd songs I greatly prefer "Simple Man" & "Mr. Saturday Night Special".  I would also prefer "That Smell" & "Sweet Home Alabama".  Its an ok song but not one I go crazy for - and its overplayed to boot.   So, overall, a good album but it could be better.  Last out of the moving box:

Led Zeppelin - Presence

This has a couple of very good songs on it ("Nobody's Fault But Mine" & "Achilles Last Stand").  The rest of the album does nothing for me however.  Not a shock.  I like Zep but am not crazy about them.  I don't care for Robert Plants vocals and to many of their songs still have a strong blues vibe that I don't care for. Don't take me wrong - I enjoy some Zep and have a number of Zep boots.  But for me, groups like The Who are wayyy better.

Taylor Swift- Red

Taylor Swift- 1989

Taylor Swift- Reputation

Taylor Swift- Lover

Taylor Swift- Folklore

Taylor Swift- Evermore

Taylor Swift- Midnights

This seven album streak is pretty flawless to me. A song here or there I don't think much of, but otherwise I'm floored.

Reputation remains my favourite, but what struck me the most this album binge is just how much Lover feels like the correct follow up to it. Upon its release, I felt underwhelmed for the most part.

My final listen. I've never liked it, and Imma  stop trying.

I enjoyed the album when it was released but haven't listened to it in years.   Maybe I'll spin it soon.

Other than All Things Must Pass, it's my favorite Beatles solo record. Paul and Linda are on fire throughout.

My neighbors are concerned too but I think that's just due to my normal behavior.

Thats some eclectic choices.  Wow!  Here I thought some of the stuff I pulled out randomly from the moving box's could be a little quirky when listed together.  No - not even close to the variety you just listed.  I bow in respect sir.
