the big four thrash albums take on the big four grunge albums, excuse me if I have them a little off in your opinion, but from my understanding these are THE BIG FOUR of each. Edited by Entre_Perpetuo

I'd take Nevermind alone over the whole thrash group. Dirt too.

Rust in Peace is the only album I like on the thrash side.

The grunge side is just way too strong. I'm only familiar with Master of Puppets and Among the Living from the thrash side (both are great).

I don't think I can decide.

Albums I love:

Rust In Peace

Superunknown

Ten

Among The Living

Albums I like:

Master Of Puppets

Dirt

Albums I'm okay with:

Nevermind

Reign In Blood

Probably I like the grunge side more consistently, but then it's really hard to top my love of Rust In Peace and Among The Living.

I'm gonna vote for the thrash to show it some love.

Had to vote the labels one. Don't care for Anthrax or Pearl Jam that much. Don't care for Slayer at all. Nirvana is way overplayed which leaves the rest.

added a second tier to the poll, since all of these bands have at least two albums which are quintessential.

Grunge for me.

Rust in Peace is my fave album from both groups, followed by Dirt. I like MoP, don't care for Among the Living and loathe Reign in Blood.

In grunge group of albums I barely care for Nevermind(very overhyped album) and like all other grunge albums pretty much.

As one of the metal guys here, i'm sure everyone knows what I voted for in both tiers.

I will say this though, AICs Dirt puts to shame anything Slayer ever did.

I dabbled in 'thrash' but was more into 'grunge' .

Master Of Puppets

... all of the grunge albums

Ok not sure why I was neutral last night.

Never been a massive thrash fan. Grunge is in my blood, especially lately.

Grunge all the way.

Hm... is my ranking still the same?

Rust In Peace

Superunknown

Ten

Among The Living

Master Of Puppets

Dirt

Nevermind

Reign In Blood

lol, yep

But how about tier two?

Ride The Lightning

Badmotorfinger

Vitalogy

In Utero

Spreading The Disease (always a bit on the fence with this though)

Seasons In The Abyss

Peace Sells... But Who's Buying

(Facelift that I have heard only once)

I'm thrash in tier one but grunge in tier two, go figure, the classic grunge is a bit more consistently enjoyable.

I voted on this some time back. The “grunge” songs I feel were just good songs that fit a certain niche while the thrash era started with a lot of preconceptions that make them seem too narrowly focused and less organic. They don’t hold up as well. A lot of thrash songs started with “did you hear the latest song from _______? It was fast. We’re going to write a an even faster song, maybe the fastest ever.”

Three years later I thought about it again and came to the same conclusion. The trio of MoP, RiP, and AtL from the first thrash group just means more to me than most of the grunge albums (aside from Superunknown), but despite Slayer moving up in my estimation with Seasons, the thrashers can't match the more eclectic and moving trio of In Utero, Vitalogy, and Badmotorfinger. One thing's for sure though. I'd probably take Soundgarden over any of these guys. I think only Megadeth might stand a chance against them.

I really like both. It's hard to deicide with this one. Grunge nips it. I like both groups/albums here, but I like more additional Grunge bands in total. Feeling Grruuungey.
