DirkPrattLerxst Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 25000th topic! I decided to make a pretty straightforward pill. Which of the Rush hits is your favorite? I picked the songs that get the most play on the radio and brought Rush mainstream attention. 1
Bigbobby10 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Subdivisions for me, I love the song musically and lyrically. 1

J2112YYZ Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Shouldn't Red Barchetta, YYZ and Distant Early Warning be in this as well? My pick is Freewill. If Barchetta was there the choice would be more difficult. 1

If Barchetta was there the choice would be more difficult.Barchetta and DEW got a lot of radio play. YYZ was a bit less in any city I've lived
Ancient Ways Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Free will is probably the least likely hit so I chose it. The descending scale intro, the topic and lyrics, the high pitched bridge, the crazy guitar solo all makes it very eccentric as a hit.
grasbo Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Limelight for me.Love the lyrics though old Bill Shakespeare lent a hand, love the melody and the song is compact and is not too noisy to disrupt Eagles and Fleetwood Mac listeners. The guitar solo is above average too. :Alex: 2

goose Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I really like Fly By Night as a radio-friendly hit. It's always great while driving, and it's loved by non-RUSH fans, which makes it more fun when it comes on. People don't change the station! Oh...it's short, too.
TexMike Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Very difficult. I could probably decide on a different track every day, but today it's Freewill. 2
goose Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Free Will wins hands down.Of the songs on the list, it's my favorite. 1
EagleMoon Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Freewill here too. I love all of the songs but it tops the list. 1
grasbo Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Although i voted for Limelight ,Freewill would probably top my list but i haven't heard it on the radio.I can only imagine if some warehouse workers heard that middle freak out section with the radio blaring it would be 'whats this crap?'.I have been in a store where Zeps Whole Lotta Love mid section came in and people young and old were openly complaining.Radio is for people who like to be in their comfort zone and don't like anything strange or noisy unless its Thunderstruck.(Generally speaking of course)
Lurkst Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Was Freewill a hit? Never released as a single AFAIK...
Wayne Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 None of the above... SUPERCONDUCTOR shoulda have been a hit. 2
Blue J Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Another vote for Freewill. Just as EagleMoon said- I love all of those songs. But it's Freewill. 1
Your_Lion Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 My favourite Rush "hit" is the tiny cymbal that get "hit" during that pause in Hemispheres 3
Phantom Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Of this group, I'd have to go with Spirit of Radio. First time I heard it, it completely blew me away...
tangy Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) Was Freewill a hit? Never released as a single AFAIK... Yeah. I think its played more on the radio these days then when it came out. I went with working man! Strange no one is going for new world man. Edit. Freewill was released as a single and charted at 109. Spirit of radio charted at 51. I guess its how you define hit. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permanent_Waves Edited December 14, 2016 by tangy
