  1. IMO, the best guy to be covering for Eddie on a tribute tour would've been Nuno Bettencourt. But he's likely too busy with Extreme. Since Satch is already tight (and a former band mate) with Hagar and Anthony, I doubt they even considered anyone else.
  2. Mine was Ozzy's Diary Of A Madman. Still remember hitting "PLAY" for the first time and being blown away by how clear it sounded.
  3. Yes, that part was shocking and hard to watch. A confusing and ultimately disappointing conclusion. Felt kinda thrown together like they weren't sure which direction they wanted to go. The first film of the trilogy was by far the best.
  4. Watching clips of Roger's current tour, the video screens are impressive, but I'd be annoyed by all the typed text. Last thing I want at a rock show is to have to read so much.
  5. Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets on 10/18. John Petrucci with Mike Portnoy on 10/27. Very stoked for both!
  6. Based on the 1975 Don Kirshner Rock Concert appearance. The Bill figurine is waiting for a signable contract.
  7. I was fortunate enough to see the Diary tour one month before the accident and it remains one of the best shows I've ever seen. Randy, Tommy Aldridge, Rudy Sarzo and a young Don Airey on keys. What a band. Doesn't seem possible that it's been 40 years. To think of how accomplished Randy was by age 25 and how much more incredible music he would've still produced. Why, why, why did he have to get on that f***ing plane. :(
  8. Disappointed this still doesn't include a full length video of the MP/ESL setlist. I guess what wasn't released either never existed or has been lost. So yeah, just 3 cd set for me too. Audio of full show will be worth it and hopefully there is a noticeable difference in the remastering of the album proper as well.
  9. Powerage is my favorite. If it gets axed, I refuse to participate in the final round. :rage:
  10. Yes I think I understand what you mean.. for example when as a 16 year old at the time , back in ‘ 85 when I first purchased Heart’s eponymous album which was how I discovered them & got me into them , when I then purchased on cassette Dreambout Annie & Dog & Butterfly to my ears back at the time it sounded hideously dated. It was a combination of the production and folky acoustic style that I didn’t expect to hear LOL ! I’ve since grown to like all of Heart’s 70s catalogue but still mostly listen to Heart , Brigade & Desire Walks On. Funnily enough also in ‘85 I discovered Boston and purchased their debut album on cassette and even though it came out in ‘76 ( the same year as Heart’s ‘ Dreamboat Annie ‘ ) to my ears at the time it didn’t sound dated at all. In fact it sounded pretty current ! I still think Boston & their ‘78 follow up album ‘ Don’t Look Back ‘ stills sound great today in 2022 ! So as you say an album’s production is important to ensure many years of repeated listening pleasure ! :-) Hendrix’s Axis : Bold As Love , which came out 55 years ago in ‘67 (!) also production wise still sounds fantastic even today, so was amazingly ahead of its time production wise. Those early Boston albums are among the best sounding rock albums ever.
  11. They're doing Bridges In The Sky, but that's the only one from earlier Mangini era. I'm guessing the setlist was partly arrived at by what JLB is capable of singing now. Some may have been tried and then shot down for being out of his range.
  12. Sound/production is most important to me. The better it sounds to my ears, the more likely I am to prefer it. The recording (especially drums, if it's rock) needs to have enough punch and dynamics to engage me. Albums as thin sounding as Presto rarely get listens from me for that very reason. And in the case of say Judas Priest, it's why I would prefer British Steel over Sad Wings Of Destiny. SWOD has fine songs, but the dated production pulls it down for me.
  13. Cannon's gotta go. Good album, but for me it's the point when AC/DC records all started to sound the same.
  14. You're not kidding. I wish Octavarium (the song) were indexed because there are parts of it I really like, but I find it a slog to sit though the whole thing, especially that damn intro. And I also agree that they've done better epics, particularly Illumination Theory and Change Of Seasons.
  15. Sorry for what you are about to receive. Fire!!!
  16. It really should just be called the Pop Culture and Music Hall of Fame. They indulge us by including some rock.
  17. The Austin show will be just my second DT show, the other being 20 years ago. Only became a big fan within the last year, so a lot of great tours missed unfortunately. Just seeing them play live again will be sweet, no matter the set. I'm thinking they decided to go with what would get them off to play. Having said that, there were definitely some bizarre/unfortunate choices. Nice melody in Ministry, but I find it a bit too plodding. Tuscany is fun, but questionably worthy of 20 minutes of set time. I pretty much can't stand The Alien and would welcome ANY other View track in its place, but of course it has to be there AND be first. Speaking of View, we leave out the best two songs that also sound made to be played live? Seriously? And I'm not sure what I'm more surprised by - that they played 0 from Images/Scenes combined or 0 from D/T. I'm definitely more disappointed by the latter. Including Bridges was a great call though.
  18. Well, whatever the oddball reason some lunatic(s) had for Priest touring as a one guitar band, I'm glad that notion's been dismissed. Not that Andy Sneap is essential to the Judas Priest sound, but you simply MUST gig with two guitarists and he's been doing a fine job attempting to fill Glenn's shoes. Now I'm actually excited about my upcoming show again.
  19. They've seen sense, but they should have called KK. I really think it's never gonna happen. If they were all 30 years younger and they had 30 more years to let the water pass under the bridge and the possible big bucks of a reunion tour persuade them, they'd probably get him back on board. But so late in their... KK's on his own now. Yeah if ever KK was gonna come back, I think it would've been during this break. I actually believed when they first pushed Sneap aside that it might be because they were negotiating with KK and the quartet idea was just a backup plan, but now I think it's never gonna happen. Priest actually getting inducted into the Rock Hall is probably the only possibility of them ever appearing together again.
  20. As great as Blizzard is, it was an easy dismissal. Diary is a desert island disc AFAIC.
  21. Somebody Get Me A Doctor is not only my favorite off II, it's probably my favorite VH tune period.
  22. I can't give it higher than 5/10. Thought it was well below the caliber of the 2018 sequel, which at least had some effective suspense and mystery. HK's opening flashback was impressive and really got my hopes up. And from there...... I know it's a Halloween film and I don't expect high art, but the dialogue was just atrociously stupid. They take forever re-introducing old characters who add absolutely nothing to the story. And what a plan. Michael has survived gunshots and being set on fire, but enough of us with baseball bats should be able to take him out. Oh and that 5 foot tall overweight bald guy who just wandered into the hospital might be the same huge shape who's been overpowering everyone, so let's waste a bunch of time chasing him around. And in the end we discover that Michael must have teleporting powers too. I'm still interested to see where they go with the finale, but man was this one a stinker.
  23. That happened on more albums than just Octavarium. Constant Motion, for example, IS a Metallica song. You can practically sing the lyrics of "Blackened" over the verses. The styles of many other bands Portnoy was being influenced by crept in during the Six Degrees - Black Clouds period. I thought the best thing about him leaving was that DT went back to sounding like classic DT again.
