  1. It's why a lot of people no longer watch things like awards shows and beauty pageants. People with real-life struggles (especially post-COVID) have little desire to watch the rich and famous wearing expensive things and celebrating themselves while trying to tell us how we should be thinking on political and social issues. Given the recent tanking of TV ratings for awards shows, and given Hollywood's need for adoration and attention, it wouldn't shock me if this was staged. It certainly created some buzz, got the water cooler crowd talking, got people watching clips on social media, got those idiots on The View and the other TV magazine shows analyzing it. Clicks and views, man. Staged or not, Hollywood is now hoping this will get people to start watching the Globes and the Oscars again next year, hoping to see one rich and entitled brat slap another.

  2. Unbelievable lack of class and self control. Then to stand up later and ramble on and on about your call to be a vessel of love takes hypocrisy to a whole new level.

  3. Released this day in 1973. Brilliant music. I remember when HOTH was released. Senior in high school and my buddy had a very hi-tech cassette deck in his Volkswagen Bug ( YELLOW ! ). We drove around town for hours blasting the album over and over. The Song Remains the Same and No Quarter really stood out for me on the first listen. I saw Led Zep for the first time that summer at MSG. It was truly an out-of-body experience.

  6. Okay I know I said I didn't want to speculate, but I have been thinking about this and... Everything I've read from anyone who was close with Taylor has said he's been clean of the heavy stuff for years, ever since that scary overdose in the early 00s. I know relapses happen, and I'm not an addict so I don't personally understand what it is that addicts go through, but do relapses really happen with coke and heroine and prescriptions and everything else that was in his system all at once? I'm asking honestly, because I don't want to make any assumptions about a field I know very little about. It just strikes me, a totally uneducated person on this topic, as completely out of character with everything I've heard about him in his past 20 years or so. I just don't understand what would drive someone to mix all that together in their system at once after being clean of the really bad stuff for so long. Can anyone enlighten me? Does this sort of thing happen when you're addicted? I'm a recovering addict, although haven't been active in any formal program (12 step or otherwise) in a long while. There's been some changes in how treatment is approached, but I believe the underlying "disease concept" used by treatment professionals is still the same. To the point -- the idea of being away from drugs for a prolonged period of time, then relapsing, and going off a cliff so to speak is well documented and a known result. The way I've heard it described is the disease "doing pushups" as you get healthy, only to have the consequences / emotional pain and overall drug use get worse if someone does go back to using despite the time away. It's a strange concept to grasp, but I've seen it firsthand with others who stay clean for decades, then relapse and die (from overdose and/or suicide) within weeks or months. Being clean is just a respite, the underlying mental/spiritual illness doesn't vanish.

  7. Still amazing to me that Rhoads triple-tracked his solos. Not so much that he was technically proficient enough to do it -- sure, that's impressive enough -- but that he thought to do it to give his solos extra depth. It's one of the things that made him sound like him.

  8. apparently will smith punched chris rock - so they're trying at least something to recapture some ratings it looks like. i also heard that amy schumer hosted this year's which tells you what their demographic is now. i'm sure there are some unintentionally funny moments with her I keep hearing it was a slap. I’m putting meme together to post next February. turns out it was a slap, just saw the footage. wasn't staged either after all, seems to be genuine anger too because chris made fun of will's wife and it offended her I keep hearing that Will was laughing at first then caught a glimpse that his wife wasn’t. Then he went all viral moment. yeah, completely normal honestly, he's used to having a camera on him and knows he's supposed to laugh along for the show - maybe he didn't even understand the joke because i know i didn't know who G I Jane was Storm the stage. Shot to Rock's face. Storm back to seat and yell "Keep my wife's name out of your f-ing mouth!" x 2 Then cry throughout your speech, cuz you're all about love. lol

  10. Great post. For me the prep isn't what I hate, it's the not eating solid food for the full day before. I have a huge appetite. Your point about early detection is so right on. My mom was diagnosed with colon cancer at a relatively young age but because it was caught early, she has survived about 30 years now. She had part of the colon removed and has never had a reoccurrence. She's now 88. She's has digestive system issues as a result of losing part of her colon (can't eat nuts for example) but a small price to pay.

  16. Indeed. She's one of the best actresses of today. Masterful. The Eyes Of Tammy Faye was such a great movie. A well deserved win. I'll be honest. I will most probably never watch it due to my intense hatred for televangelists and all other religious charlatans. I wouldn't be able to enjoy the film enough.

Does this sort of thing happen when you're addicted? Addicts are the best of liars, especially to those close to them. Good gosh the stories I could tell. Alcohol destroyed the last 10 years or so of my parents marriage while my mom was alive and now it is destroying my dad's new marriage and he refuses to acknowledge that he has a drinking problem. The strange thing is once upon a time, he did. He admitted he was an alcoholic. But now he is in complete denial.

  21. Not quite made my day, but certainly a good interaction, with the removal man who visited today to give me a quote. He just wanted to talk about Van Halen and Rush when he saw my guitars and CDs and books. He`s going to see Primus doing Farewell to Kings in Glasgow and his favourite record is Women and Children First.

  24. I don't have any sympathy for Dave when it comes to his hearing loss. He admits that he doesn't use ear monitors live, so he takes all that sound straight on. It's one thing to be young and stubborn or to damage it in random way like what happened with Pete Townshend. But to flat out refuse to do anything to protect your hearing as a major arena/stadium rock act is just plain dumb. I guess at this point it doesn't matter. He's 53 and the damage is done.

  26. I really enjoyed Genesis on this last tour. I thought it was a great show and Phil and the band seemed like they were having a great time. And the fans appreciated it, so who's to say it is wrong? As far as money, I believe Phil has some big divorce settlements, so he may not have as much left as we think.

  31. I never liked W Smith as an actor and his actions tonight are a reason why I don't like him as a person. With all the tension in the world today, do we need this?

  32. I used to record the Oscars and Grammys and watch them (so I could skip the ads and in the case of Grammys, artists I didn't care for). I haven't done the Oscars now for about five years. The show has lost something, it just isn't as compelling and IMHO many of the movies are underwhelming. I saw stories online about the incident and I think both Smith and Rock were idiots. Rock has always liked to be controversial and he obviously underestimated the effect his "joke" would have. That said Smith proves what kind of person he is by causing a scene. I bet Jada is more embarrassed by his tantrum. Disappointed Belfast only got one award, such a lovely film.

He certainly thought that he was called to be important? Sheesh. If the academy had any backbone whatsoever they would revoke his win. Chris Rock really handled the whole situation professionally and kept his cool.

  41. There`s often chatter about Anagram (for Mongo) not being a career highlight. It was probably more fun to write than it is for us to listen to. The lyrics are kinda fun to read, even if they're not true anagrams. Some of the lines are clever, like "There's tic toc in atomic," but as song lyrics they're awful. And they're made worse by the music, which was mailed in and has no life whatsoever.

  45. No one at the Kansas show I went to was in a chair.. well except for the acoustic set they did to start the show where everyone was in a chair. When I saw them in 2017, Rich Williams (the guy with the eye patch) sat through the whole set. I don't follow them all that well, so don't know all the history. Perhaps he was recovering from an injury or surgery at the time. But...chair. And Dave Grohl! Sitting like a demented king, during his broken leg tour. RIP Taylor.

  47. I saw The Who farewell tour in 1989. It was great (Tommy and Simon Phillips killing it on the drums) but I refused to see any of the farewell tours after that... lol We went to see them in 1982 because it was a farewell tour! Seriously, they said that. If I ever see Pete Townsend he owes me $30.00. :P
