  1. He needs to get together with this guy and form the ultimate rythm section...

  5. I would love it if they would do an entirely instrumental album. I think it would be a major challenge and very exciting if done well. It would be cool if they could do some sort of soundtrack album, like an instrumental rock opera type thing. Just for example. It almost seems like a natural type progression at this point. Hopefully having some time off will give them some new ideas and they'll come back fresh and ready to record some new stuff.

  6. I´m glad my fellow TRFers have some sense of humour. I did the same joke on the Dream Theater Forum asking if they´d like John Myung to play like that, and everyone was like "are you insane? He´s John Myung, and his stage presence can be whatever he wants it to be, blablabla zzzzzzzzzz..."

  9. I used to post in here when I first joined TRF but after a while it gets a bit dull discussing how much you like Rush. That being said, I thought I would dedicate this post to how awesome Rush truly is. I can't think of any other ban in history that has consistently produced quality original music for almost fifty years now. They have adapted, changed and remained an influential band that doesn't have to rely on old hits from the seventies to preform live. I honestly can't think of any other band that can do or has done what Rush has accomplished. I spend most of my time here in SOCN because I like to read posts from informed, intelligent people. Sometimes I forget that I'm on a forum dedicated to a rock band. I believe that the depth of Rush is revealed in its fan base. Long live Rush and long live TRF!

  10. I agree. An album at his now comfortable range would help him as much as an instrumental. I sing in a Rush tribute band. One mid range song between two high ones is enough. You don't want to stop singing entirely for 45 minutes and then jump into Circumstances.

  11. Honestly, I don't see why they can't continue doing songs with vocals as long as Geddy doesn't have to hit certain notes or do any screeching. I'm not being mean, just realistic.

Pet her and she bites you, she lures you in with her come hither meowling...and BAM! she can draw blood. Anyway this is her, this morning...at 7-9pm she was at barns N Meowble for her book signing

  14. Definitely another album....same generic style, same drone. Should be called "The music remains the same"

  15. In my scenario, they would be singing and playing, just with a backing vocal track. They do that now. Does it bother you that Geddy flies in harmonies cause Alex can't sing? I don't mind how rush shows are now, if that's what you're asking me. I'd prefer no fake shit at all but I think rush shows kick ass. I just don't want geddy lip-synching the old shit, if you wanna play it just sing it differently. I'd much prefer that. I'd rather watch/listen to the Rush guys air-drumming/guitar-ing to a recording of their older material than to see them play their crappy new stuff live. Sorry you feel that way. I love the new stuff.

  16. Id be happy if the band took a lot of pressure off themselves to produce an epic cd length album and went back to the shorter length of vinyl days. Even in the case of this great group i think more quality less quantity applies. look at permanent waves for example not a single note out of place every second perfection in itself, whereas you can probably pinpoint superfluous stuff in all three of their last albums, however great the albums as a whole were. No wonder they cant even think about dropping new material when its clearly such a long drawn out arduous ordeal of an undertaking. cant recall exectly but they say took like a couple weeks to lay 2112 down, loosen up and get somewhere near back to that attitude fellas why dontcha. Heck even a nice little ep would be fantastic we're gaggin for it here man, clockwork angels seems a lifetime ago :)

  17. Same here. Underwear just seems like one more thing to wash. What's the point? Amen my Rush brethren. Undies are a pain in the ass. I only have 2 pairs of silky (expensive) ones and will wear one when I want to feel extra good all under........ :)

  21. Well, they've split Neil's drum solos down from one long one to 3 short ones. I suppose this allowed them to showcase each of the segments in discrete parts, and to keep Neil's arms from falling off. I suppose they could add a few more instrumentals into their show to preserve Geddy's voice. Perhaps they could include 5 or so of the following in their setlist: YYZ La Villa MalNar Monkey Business Leave That Thing Alone medley of oldies a new instrumental If they played around 4 songs between each instrumental, and had their 3 mini drum solos, they would still have a show of close to 30 songs. But only 20 would need to be sung. That might help Geddy a bit.

  22. This guy and Geddy should have the ultimate bassist dance battle over who could dance the most goofiest while still looking good on stage...I'd pay good money to go see that!

  26. I can't imagine which glasses he was talking about. I sure hope it wasn't THESE glasses, because I think those are a part of the reason I fell in love with him also some random Geddy pictures I had on my computer http://i.imgur.com/PutyqT8.jpg oh and this  His eyes look sad. :( They probably told him to look serious. The brooding rock star look. :) Wow, my hair and clothes looked just like that in high school. Of course he wears it much better than I did.

  28. I may very well be the only person here who hasn't seen this but I just found out about this concert the other day and am shocked I had never heard of it before. Even more shocked to see they played a short cover of "Paint it Black" and I've never heard about it. That being the case, I figured I'd share in case anyone else hasn't. Looks like this was between the VT tour and R30 tour. Toronto SARS Benefit Concert July 30th, 2003 450,000 fans (Wow!!) AC/DC, Rush, Justin Timberlake, The Flaming Lips, The Isley Brothers and The Guess Who http://youtu.be/Im04kIyseEo According to setlist.fm: Tom Sawyer Limelight Dreamline YYZ Freewill Closer to the Heart Paint It Black (Rolling Stones cover) The Spirit of Radio There is also a video of the "entire concert" but it is lacking songs from that setlist, so I'm assuming they were just cut from the video. Rush starts at about 49:20 http://youtu.be/0SSRfkwX9s8

  32. I didn't even know it was fake! I scan read it! The poor spelling/grammar and editing always give them away before anything else. That and they're never plausible. And it wasn't even me that typed it...... :) The Yukon Blade Grinder had you Old School!!! We can review your initial reactions. You mis-understood me. I meant with the poor spelling/grammar etc. that it wasn't me that typed it. I was poking fun at myself in an effort to be self - deprecating. My punctuation has been questioned by some around here.... :) Edit: The RS thing a while back most definitely fooled the sh*t out of me...

  38. I don't understand how anybody could be a hardcore fan of a band if they are so eager to dismiss entire sections of said bands discography, and mock another fans love of a less iconic album. if someone here thinks Presto or T4E are the bands best albums, and they love them with all their heart, I will disagree with their view, but also agree to disagree! Rush make great music.

  39. :7up: That is a huge step! Congrats Keira!! (I like the thumbs up she's giving.) I'm sure she feels very proud of herself to be in a real bed like big brother and sister. :) The thumbs up is probably due to the fact that the thumb just came out of her mouth! She is still a huge thumb sucker. It's in her mouth all night! It's not that you told her about the Packers loss... And she's almost 3 isn't she. Ya know, in a couple years (which will feel like days) the phone will ring, you'll answer and say "no you can't talk to Keira right now, she's in Moscow studying dance", because it'll be the FIFTH TIME IN THREE F*@CKING minutes a boy's called to ask her about whatever...and she'll give you the stinkeye....and the phone'll ring again.... That day is just around the corner for Keira's older sister. Keira turns three on the 26th of this month. Time flies. :)

  40. Yes, 2112 tells a good story. In the mid-70's, that kind of story was very appropriate. Rock & Roll was branching out in many directions, so the freedom to be creative was extremely important. People were mentioning how 1984 was only a few years away, so they knew of the danger of our creating that dystopian world for real. The story, combined with the futuristic sounds and intense guitar-driven music, made 2112 a fantastic experience. I'll never forget listening to it over and over again and imagining myself in that world.... :haz: :haz: :haz:

  41. I agree with this assessment of the song. The first 6:45 is among the best the band has ever done, while the rest of the song is pretty uneven. "Discovery" is pretty cringeworthy, IMO, and there's a reason they didn't bother playing "The Oracle" live until 1997—it is another stop and start momentum killer, something the song suffers from as a long piece. Don't get me wrong, I love "2112" and I appreciate its importance in making the band what they are today, but I don't think all parts of it have aged equally as well.

  42. You guys are funny. I am laughing at much of this discussion of who's better than who yada yada. The fact that KISS finally being indicted makes the RRHOF only a little less of a joke than it already has been. Rock and Roll is from the streets and should not be a f***ing institution. It's funny because later this morning the Baseball HOF will make their announcement as to this years inductees with much ado about the PED era and all. Rock and Roll is not at all like that. It is an artistic endeavor created by musicians who, by and large, play by instinct with minimal training. The best bands have the least training. It is ridiculous to stick bands into a so called institution of legitimacy. Rock and Roll is not about legitimacy. It's about sex, drugs and having a good time as loudly as possible. It's about getting the cops called and scattering. It's about packing your gear up after a gig and hoping some chicks are still around. It's about going to see your favorite band play with a few thousand people smoking weed and rushing the barrier. It's not about tuxedos and night gowns and little statues. It's about being sweaty on some meager little stage dreaming about playing the Coliseum to screaming maniacs. It's about what your parents wouldn't approve of. It's about telling the establishment to f*** off. It's guttural over technical. Which is why the best bands have little training. The best Rock and Roll is instinctual. And if we truly want to add baseball like status to the RRHOF then I'm sorry but bands like ELP, Cheap Trick, Jethro Tull have no business being there. It's not a Hall of Very Good. KISS is an elite band. They changed live shows forever. Yes deserves to be in as much as Genesis and maybe some hip hop artists. In retrospect and with perspective Nirvana absolutely deserves to be in. They changed the landscape of rock/popular music. Their production is tremendous. Did I like them when they were around? Not initially but the songwriting is excellent and caught me just before Cobain decided he'd had enough of being a rock star. I feel the same about Billy Joe's stuff. But it is still arbitrary, random and ridiculous all the same. Rock is not about playing perfectly. It's about the opposite of that. Listen to Jimmy Page. There's no perfection. It's sloppy as hell, but it rocks.

  43. I find a lot of their modern material more interesting. Musically, there are parts of the song that are simply phenomenal—especially, of course, the opening few minutes. Other parts pretty much lose me, but that's okay—not every epic can be Close to the Edge. Lyrically, well, their intentions were nice. Can't help but chuckle or shake my head during some sections. Fine for where they were at the time, but thank goodness they grew up.

  47. I didn't realise they themselves didn't like it if you read any of the books about the band and later interviews, both Neil and Geddy admit that Presto is the one album they wish they had a do-over with and flesh some songs out better and take some of the ideas further. Fun Fact: Hand Over Fist was going to be an instrumental until the music was used to go with Neil's lyrics for same.

  48. Hobo, please be careful. Emotional abuse frequently escalates into physical abuse. The most dangerous time for you will be when you are leaving. Grab some big male friends to go with you when you move out. If the police will agree to accompany you, even better. Document EVERYTHING from this point on. Every verbal attack, shove, EVERYTHING. Find out what you'll need to get a restraining order and get one. If he violates it, report him. I am serious. He sounds like a grenade with a pin 3/4 of the way out.
