The Official "THE FORCE AWAKENS" Thread: May The Force Of JJ Abrams Be With You! SPOILER ALERT!

I also like that Ren is undisciplined because of youth and inexperience and look forward to seeing what training is like on the dark side.

My biggest gripe is dipping into the Death Star well again, this time with an immobile planet. I was able to forgive Battlestar Galactica for the same silliness in 1978 but JJ should be smarter in 2015.

Doing something like the death star again makes perfect sense actually. Kylo wants so much to be like Vader, why wouldn't he create his own version of the death star.

so was this new Base built to surpass everything.

But it doesn't. Being built on an immobile planet how may worlds are really threatened? It seems pretty easy to defend against.

My 9yo son would like to know why anyone would essentially recreate a design that was easily destroyed twice already by small craft. I have no answer for him.

Just saw it an hour ago. I enjoyed it. I'm gonna have to get over the scene between Kylo and Han...

Rey's character is very cool.

Rey was great.

I honestly think that bringing Ford and Fisher back was a mistake. It would have worked better for me yo have had new actors play those characters...perhaps make them a generation older. Really was a distraction for me.

Time will tell on that one, for me at least. Episode VIII will be pretty key on how relevant the original cast is (apart from Luke, obviously). I think Han and Chewbacca fit the story pretty well, Leia not as much.

The second one wasn't defeated by a design flaw, and the people from the first 2 aren't the same as for this one, which they thought would have the first strike capability to destroy the Resistance fleet (and they were largely right). Also, the 3rd's "flaw" was a necessity due to the nature of the weapon: everyone knows that you can't contain a star without a thermal oscillator! Duh!

So instead of 30 years in the future you'd go 50 with a dead Han, a Leia in a home battling Alzheimer's, and a Luke immobilized by tendinitis and retiring from Jedi-ing to nurse Macallan's?

It's enough that the young Han Solo spinoff flick will have a younger actor portraying him. Showing a second Han actor only to kill him in a single film seems a waste. And a waste of Ford since he's clearly still capable of playing Han. If they had brought in a different actor for Admiral "It's a trap" Ackbar, I wouldn't have cared but there's no reason for it not to have been Ford & Fischer.

Redoing the death star doesn't bother me as much as using up the f***ing star!?! So now that hey used up their only source of light, they won't wither away and die in the cold vacuum of space? Plus, why did they need the entire star to destroy one planet? But other than that, I have no complaints

A simple change in dialogue would have fixed that. The Starkiller base draws energy from the star, but could never use up the entire star, which is million times as large and several million times as dense.

Yeah...that's a fantastic point. This is Star Wars though. Remember Lando complaining about being a "sitting duck"? It doesn't have to make sense to be awesome in this universe.

Yes, it is Sci-Fi/ Fantasy, so anything is possible. We can just go with it.....

Even a then kindergarten-elementary school kid Johnnyblaze remembers the problems and explosions and recall connected with the Pinto. You don't remember?

The Death Star did blow shit up. Big time. Granted, it took only one attack by Finn's hotshot pilot pal, the fat policeman from "Heroes", and others to take it out. Still, I think the Pinto is a fair comparison for goose to use.

A lot of the Pinto stuff was hype but you're right it had the reputation. I'm not saying it's a great car but it was cheap, got to point A and B while thrifty on gas. That was the Pinto's mission parameters.

Fat Policeman is that where I know him??? Been wondering for days!

Wow did somebody actually say Daisy Ridley was HOMELY????

Christ almighty she is cute / sexy / whatever as hell in this movie! Looks much better with no makeup, IMO. How many women can say that I'll bet?

And she kicks a ton of ass!! All of the new characters are great and can *gasp* ACTUALLY ACT.

I still think though they're HEAVILY IMPLYING she's Luke's daughter my money's on her being Han / Leia's daughter (somehow?) After all, the saber called out to her through lineage which easily could have come from Leia and not Luke.

Oh and holy shit, guys- IT'S LUKE'S BLUE LIGHTSABER HE LOST AT THE END OF EMPIRE IN THIS!!!

Excellent movie! those tentacle things were kind of unnecessary but otherwise A+ with me.

P.S: So now anybody can wield a lightsaber with no problem???

Dude, I'll be honest when they showed Ackbar I think I shouted a little in the theater lol.

So many original "background" characters returned in this movie, it was so cool. :)

Where and how did Kylo get Vader's old mask?

Vader's suit would have charred mightily on ye olde Endor funeral pyre but I doubt the metal would've been totally destroyed by it.

Yeah, he was also the pilot in one of the first episodes of LOST. Another Force Awakens character that was in LOST was the Asian guy who had psychic abilities connected with the dead.

But it wouldn't have mattered (to me) who was under that get up.

Where was there any evidence that kylo Ren had anything to do with the creation of that Death Star/planet? I didn't even see any reason to believe he was capable of such an undertaking.
