My dog died last night. He was a nearly 13 year old Golden Retriever and he had a good life, but man, I'm really gonna miss him. RIP Mojo.

Really sorry for your loss, Stormtron. My dog Mike is getting older; he's a mix of Catahoula and Plott hound. He'll be eleven in a couple of months. He has slowed down, but he's still in very good health, for now. I know I'll never have another dog like him. He is one of a kind, man.

Dogs dying is always so sad.

Catahoula and Plott, wow, those are two breeds that most people have never heard of.

(oh, sorry, no disrespect to those above who lost people family members, of course, even sadder and more awful.)

:rose:

Some of us have experienced both kinds of those losses.

I don't have a way to post my own photos here, but my dog (who looks predominantly like a Plott hound) looks very similar to this one:

That dog's ears are longer than my dog's, and my dog's brindle coat has more black than brown in it- but the face and the body look almost identical.

Condolences, Stormtron!!!

Waking up from a nap today, and taking 15 mins to get my brain back to reality......scary.

Horror in Nice, France.

It is so awful. We just had our own Independence Day not that long ago. It's just like someone plowing along one of the U.S. boardwalks or piers and killing 80+ people in the middle of fireworks. It's getting to the point where the world can only put up so many barriers, checkpoints, etc.

Steady decline in happiness today. Start to end. It started off ok, maybe good, bright and early, and went down.

I have days like that, too.

Anything in particular that happened to cause it?

The uncertainty and fragility of our lives in this Earth, marked by the accidental death of a friend's husband at 42. Strangely, it also brought me a sense of joy and wonder in reflecting on the many blessings I've had in my life.

Sounds like my 62 years in a nutshell.

Last night the sister of my good friend died. His brother-in-law (her husband) died just a few months ago, which leaves their 6-yr-old son an orphan. My friend and his wife are taking in the son to raise alongside their 14-yr-old. They're in a huge adjustment period, and will be there for quite awhile.

Really sorry to hear this. :(

Despite the terrible loss, at least the 6 year-old has some other family to be with.

I'm so sorry to hear this about your friend- what huge losses to deal with in a short period of time. Your friend and his wife sound like wonderful people to care so much for their nephew. Hugs to them for being there when it counts.

Man. Kudos to your friends for taking that on. My heart goes out to the kid. :(

Ouch. :(

I lost my father at age 2, but I'm forever thankful I got to keep my mother this long and counting. The possibility of orphanism scared me as a young child.

Thanks, everyone. I spent yesterday with the (now-enlarged) family. The 6-yr-old seems fine, but he probably doesn't yet know the extent of what has happened. My friends are going through a huge adjustment (their only kid is just starting high school and they were looking forward to an empty nest in 4 years), and their son is feeling intruded upon, although he realizes there is no other choice. They are such wonderful people for giving the kid a secure home

Realizing I have no friends IRL. I have only had 1 before, The rest of my friends I had would ignore me or be rude to me.

:(

I don't think I will ever have friends. I feel like going away now.

Always.

And as I say to such people, "..whatever gets you off. As long as you're getting off. And I hope you're getting off--otherwise there wouldn't be a point."

What's to "get"? Harming and hating are always associated with power...attempts at getting it that is
