Neil a phony??

Folks....Neil lyrics have been illustrating far broader ideas than the typical Ayn Rand stuff...for decades now....he was critical of W on Snakes and Arrows...he demonstrated his feelings on same sex relationships on Nobodys Hero...he issued warnings on business run amok on Big Money...spoke of acid rain (ie another anti industry over nature stance) on Distant Early Warning....

For those who feel completely stunned he doesn't still hold those very narrow scoped views closer to his heart....I gotta wonder where in the hell have you been....?!?!.... Again..agree or not (everyones entitled to believe as they please)....but to be all "OMG...Neil said what?".... I just don't get it...in 2015.... the clues have been there like breadcrumbs for years...I also believe his own personal tradgedies made him rethink his own philosophies.....like it would for most people...I would think.

Dude, the guy called someone a racist without any basis or reasoning. This doesn't have to do with him changing his viewpoints. I don't care if he has "changed his viewpoints" - in fact being married to a liberal wannabe elitist and living on the left coast for all these years I EXPECT he would be brainwashed by now and change his views to the borderline socialist viewpoints so dominant on the west coast. The problem is that he called someone a racist without anything to back it up. It was a dumb-f**k move on his part and shows a lack of character big time.

Yeah....Um I addressed that....that's his...opinion....its been covered....and at the same time after 12 pages of thread people are wondering what changed since 1976?.... as if there's some hidden conspiracy that's been obvious since the early eighties....?

I never said you gotta buy it...or like it....but the vast majority of his written work in books or on album would indicate the Ayn Rand thing was a phase...but many fall under the same illusion that the press covering the band around 75-76 did.....if anything the "phoney" idea would be the sterotype that Peart is some Ayn loyalist...

Seriously, how can you still be missing the point after 13 pages? I'm beginning to think it's deliberate.

How is saying its an opinion you don't have to agree with...missing the point?...its not...its a matter of fact.

If you aren't seeing posts wondering aloud "what changed since 1976?"...I can't help you.

Just like before you are picking narrow stuff to get all jacked up over....

You don't like what he said? Great...call him an a-hole and move on with it.....freedom of speech allows for differing..ahem..again *opinions*......

What I see are people trying to box Peart into some believed view of being liberatarian...like some rigid set of rules to follow oblivious to any personal experiences one might encounter that might make you question things and throw the rule book...or parts of it away....

Also pragmatically speaking...there are 2 sides when it comes election time...

Since Rands comments in 2010 on civil rights, he hasn't backtracked? He hasn't tried to redefine his comments or image? His current interpretation on civil rights is clear? Its one thing to have a nice theory of limited govt, but in the real world some take significant advantage of others who are less fortunate, which required intervention, as 80% of Republicans in congress agreed with at the time.

Yes calling him a racist is unfortunate, but to say a liberal going after Rand Paul on domestic issues is "baseless" is way out there.

I'll also add in terms of Pearts generosity ...a view that has changed since he was struggling to succeed in his 20s poor... naturally it would make an "Aynworld" view very attractive.....but since then he has amassed millions...has a different view and that responsible only to ones own self crap doesn't fly anymore....

Musicians/Entertainers should not subspecialize in other matters. We saw what happened when Alex tried to paint something. Painful.

I don't agree at least in part....imagine if DaVinci thought like that....

Not that Lifeson is DaVinci.....but I admire people who continue to challenge themselves or try to be a Rennaisance Dude;)

I wonder what Chrissie Hynde. thinks about Limbaugh using her music as his bumper music?

I have always wondered about this.

I guess Google here I come.

Personally she is not a fan and would prefer Limbaugh not use her music but her parents are big fans of Limbaugh so she let's him use it. Not everybody is so rigid.

Absolutely. And you're right, theirs was a much more defensible opinion than Peart's.

No one said a liberal going after Paul on domestic issues is baseless. What I said is Peart calling Paul a racist and a sexist is baseless. This is such a simple concept, but it is clear that neither you nor JBs have any interest in understanding or addressing it.

I would think Rand Paul is held under more scrutiny for the fellow that was on his staff for several years that had some pretty clear racial views...just a statement of levity, though. I, personally, couldn't care less. :outtahere:

Neil didn't call George W. Bush 'An instrument of evil.' He quoted that in his Rolling Stone interview, talking about politics, and how he doesn't support Rand Paul, and how he has even heard some Libertarians calling Bush that.

That's not at all how I read that. I'll have to go back and re-read it.

I've heard and read far worse characterisations in politics....

But hey...if you think Paul has a case worth pursuing...help em out..

Not sure what you are looking for? A formal condemnation? Calling someone something without facts is not opinion. Not sure what's so hard to understand here. RnB hit the nail on the head when he lawyered this thread up.

This is seriously hillarious.......ok same rule of not being immune to criticism applies to Paul...right?... because the guy has had more than one instance of having to unload bigots from his team....and then later trying to spin it into a media attack...in both cases their associations and actions were pretty bad....and it wasn't like Paul dropped kicked em immediately to the curb either....the dude with facebook lynching pics on MLK day with other stuff I won't write here because its frankly disgusting was particularly awful....and as I understand it...remained on said FB page for 2 years....if true...its beyond not cool.

Now...if Peart read about this...its likely to be the reasoning behind his....wait for it....opinion of Rand Paul...where said he feels he doesn't like brown people....capice?

Since Rands comments in 2010 on civil rights, he hasn't backtracked? He hasn't tried to redefine his comments or image? His current interpretation on civil rights is clear? Its one thing to have a nice theory of limited govt, but in the real world some take significant advantage of others who are less fortunate, which required intervention, as 80% of Republicans in congress agreed with at the time.

Yes calling him a racist is unfortunate, but to say a liberal going after Rand Paul on domestic issues is "baseless" is way out there.

No one said a liberal going after Paul on domestic issues is baseless. What I said is Peart calling Paul a racist and a sexist is baseless. This is such a simple concept, but it is clear that neither you nor JBs have any interest in understanding or addressing it.

If he really said that...I can come up with an example of how lefties might be angry at RP...

Supporting policies on the guise of limited govt, policies that significant hurt those of a specific race or gender will be viewed by those that are hurt in that manner (I.e. Respond with "baseless" anger)

A female employee is virtuously powerless to stand up to her employer that denies her of readily available and legal healthcare. To hide behind limited govt while irrevocably hurting the powerless causes anger to those harmed and to their families.

Notre Dame is a private college, yet earns significant revenue broadcasting its games on spectrum owned by we the people yet leased to the networks. ND is openly fighting women's rights.

This private university has entered a public domain. Hiring employees in the general public via public recruiting, subject to EEOC laws. Yet a strange court is ruling that this is all private. If so, great, get ND off my TV and hobby lobby out of open to the public stores.

To deny basic healthcare to women based on a false claim that these are private companies/schools...or to come up with a convenient ltd govt theory that causes irrevocable harm against those less fortunate. This type of "theory" has obviously angered some on the left. Perhaps NEP is one of them.
