Phish? Just can't get into their music...They played Hershey a few times...the first time they were here, I had something else going on, and couldn't go..I just wanted to DO it since they were the "hip new thing" But their fans were strange, and traffic in town was a major cluster____! In fact, I was stuck in traffic waiting at a light and some stoner came up to my car and goes "Hey, do you have and herb for sale?" I said "no" and wound up my window.... a few minutes later (like two light cycles) another guy come up to my car and goes "Hey, do you wanna buy some weed?" I said no..but the guy walking about ten cars up does! he goes "HEY...thanks a lot!!!" and goes running off... But when they play that stuff on XM (Jam On), I usually end up surfing to another station..just can't deal with their sound. (and I'm a Dead Head!) Although most Dead Heads I know are PISSED that Trey Anastasio is filling in for Jerry on their last shows! (people want Warren Haynes, who IS amazing!)

As far as Dream Theater...I sort of lost interest once Rudess came on board... I kept buying their stuff, and liked a few things...Don't get me wrong, I like Rudess outright...love the stuff he did with Rod Morganstein etc. But not a huge fan of his DT output,,,and I REALLY lost interest with them when they got rid of Portnoy! REALLY??? The guy wanted to take a little break...(and I'm not really a fan of Mangini)

Speaking of bands that changed people...I lost interest in Spock's Beard when Neal Morse left, and Nick D'Virgilio took over vocals...but now I'm back in since Ted Leonard took over (although I'm NOT a fan of their new drummer at all!)

I'm going to see Satriani but that's mainly due to the fact he's using the amazing rhythm section of Brian Beller and Marco Minnemann!

I'd go see Satch.. I have a friend that all over his stuff...not a bad show I'd be willing to bet!

Nothing wrong with Tom Petty.

However, I miss that mug of howie Epstein on bass and vocals.

Grass Dogs at the Filmore was a very very good example of Petty in form.

What band replaces Rush as the "must see" group if they come close? (which sort of sucks because a lot of bands don't hit the local-ish markets in my area)

Lyle Lovett is probably the only other artist whose tour I follow to see if he's coming to my neck of the woods.

even though the void left wouldn't be refillable, it's plenty of good bands to spend an evening after all; to name one that could recall "very very somehow" something familiar, I'd go for Coheed And Cambria.

I saw C&C a couple years ago. They were damn good.

I my world, the day that Rush hang it up, there will be a void that no other band will be able to fill.

Yes if they get Jon Anderson back.

Genesis if they do more than the 80s hits. Let Chester Thompson drum and Phil can sing or Phil and Peter if they choose.

Pink Floyd if Roger Waters is there.

Supertramp if Roger Hodgson is there.

There are other bands that I would see if convenient and at the right price but no must see.

Tool

What did you call me?

Ha

No seriously, there is nobody. I used to see a ton of Phish shows, but that scene sucks.

Frankly I am at a point where I'm just not that interested in seeing bands anymore. Rush is playing like an hour away from me (San Jose, CA), and I'm really not that psyched about making the trip.

No, I mean the band, Tool. They're amazing

Maiden.

Definitely.

Although, everyone in the band is pushing 60 so who knows how much longer they can keep up doing the kind of shows they've been doing. Dickinson is very fortunate his voice has stayed so strong for as long as it has and not gone to shit yet.

Springsteen, Beyoncé, Muse, Tool, Alter Bridge, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Toto...

Look around, open your mind and you can find an abundance of extraordinary live acts.

And quite frankly, Rush are impressive but there are ither acts that I would love to see over them.

If you get a chance to see Roger Hodgeson somewhere on his own do it! He doesn't come around that often but seems to like this one casino out here in Washington and has been here for one gig the last several summers or so (maybe not every year but close). I got to see him last July 3rd and he has not lost anytihing! Always wanted to see Supertramp but never did and this was almost like it would have been in 79'! He was simply brillant and the tickets were cheap and seat was close

That's the other thing.. the "money is no object" band! If the logistics would have worked out for when Roger Waters performed with Gilmour, Wright and Mason that time, I would have gone to see that show....that was a lifetime thing for me! I never got to see them all together.. I saw the 87-94 version of Floyd, and saw Waters solo twice, but never got to see them all on one stage at one time!

Yes NEEDS Jon Anderson! (I've seen them with, without, ABWH, the Union Tour, the 90125 version)

I'd pay serious cash to see Genesis with Peter! (and Phil)

Not too many other bands in that catagory...hell Zappa's dead so....

At this point other Neil Diamond who I have never seen. The impersonator in Branson doesn't count. I'm done with big arena shows. I'm more into a funky jazz trio at a cigar lounge now.

I would agree about none. I can't think of a single band that is touring today that I would have to see. I would still like to see Kansas (even though they're doing the casino thing and that seems wrong to me) but it wouldn't be mandatory.

My wife and I actually saw Kansas at the local casino last year. Very good show...although rather short...maybe an hour and 20 minutes. From the looks of the elderly crowd, they probably cut the show short because most people were up past their bedtimes.

That's just sad.

I had free tickets to Kansas playing in my town of 50,000 Enid Oklahoma. I was at a cook out having a good time, never made to the show yet I feel no great loss.

Suffice it to say, the music industry is so depressed that newer bands have the lifespan of goldfish. There simply is no money in recording new material unless it's radio play trash. Outside of pop tarts, you'll start to see a steep falloff in arena level shows. Personally I like finding new artists and then follow them as they progress. Since there's no patience from labels anymore, it's nearly impossible for new bands to survive.

If Rush came out now, they wouldn't make it past their 2nd album.

I actually warmed up to Kansas back in the day before I found Rush, so I had fond memories of their 70s material. It was humorous to make fun of the old people crowd staggering in...my wife and I wondered if they thought Tony Bennett was playing. But they filled a 3000 seat auditorium, seats were cheap, show was good so it was a good night.

Porcupine Tree if they ever tour again.

No question. These guys are the real deal.

And Muse is insanely great live.

Iron Maiden is THE band to see if Rush isn't around anymore. Other "must-see" bands that I can think of include Gov't Mule, Megadeth, PUSA, Michael Schenker Group, Priest, Bob Mould. Just saw Uli Jon Roth the other day and he was effing phenominal. I also see Electric Six every time they come around. Dinosaur Jr. too. Haven't seen 'em yet, but I hear The Darkness put on an amazing live show. No one can replace Rush though, for me.
