The House Of Flying Daggers

my first ever chinese movie. I don't want to call this a martial arts movie because this is so much more than a simple actiin flick. Its a passionate romance, a beautifully shot, colourful masterpiece! I watched it twice over the weekend. It blew me away!

Next up:

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Hero

I love all of those movies. I'm a big fan of the martial arts movies. Michelle Yeoh in particular. She kicks major butt.

I don't so much enjoy the fighting as much as the cinematography, not really into violence (i watched the film because i once studied the bamboo fight and remember being astonished by its beauty) but good grief...the oriental languages are beautiful!

ADDICTION 1995 from Russell Simmons. I didn't know what to expect from him because when I hear the name I always think BET, but it was an interesting modern take on the vampire genre. And not a teenager in sight. Cool cast and quite flawed, but the fact it was in black and white helped to smooth over the awkward bits. Actually I'm not sure Simmons directed or produced or both and I'm in bed and too lazy to look it up.

Couldn't sleep so went on to VIDEODROME from 1983 by David Cronenburg. Aye God that man can disturb, especially in his early ones. It has that early 80s sheen that makes it look dated, but it is quite prophetic. I read that someone got the rights to remake it. If done right it could be the feel horrified movie of the year.

Riddick - Great Sci Fi romp . On the same plain as the first film .

The Purge - Not Bad .

Hours - Not a bad film either . My first Paul Wakler film . :rose:

I remember the exact day I watched Videodrome back in 2010. Really good movie - strange, scary and dated in perfect amounts! If there's a remake in the works, I can only hope it does justice to the original.

Found the posters this morning. It turns out The Addiction was directed by Abel Ferrara who is also responsible for "4:44 Last Day On Earth" = Horrible and "Bad Lieutenant" = Not Horrible, but saved only by Harvey Keitel's performance and several other darker movies like "The King Of New York" and apparently some soft porn in his early days.

I think Videodrome could be turned into something awesome in the digital age. It is a movie that could actually be updated for our modern times and be just as disturbing as the original. And it's spelled "Cronenberg".

There, caught up and now I'm going to make Clockwork Angels Tour my final movie watched for the year. Might as well go out on a high note.

A terrific underrated Hitchcock classic, and his last great film.

An excellent thriller with a jazz interlude in the middle. This film, with the performance of Jessica Walters and Clint's reactions to her antics, always has me laughing out loud even though it shouldn't really be funny.

Just went to see American Hustle today at the theater. Average at best as per usual for any movies I've seen in recent memory... :(

That has the most disturbing sex scene I've ever seen...and I'm talking about the one with Woods and Harry, not the just as disturbing one at the beginning. Great movie and Baker special effects, though. Universal better not f-ck it up with the remake should it get the green light. I can see the remake being decent if it were handled by their Focus division since their films are of a more artistic quality than Universal.
